Nicely put. I trained as an oboist at a conservatoire in the UK in the early 80s. There were two pianists I noticed. One (artist A) is now an internationally renowned artist. The other (artist B) divides his time between chess and concerts locally in a quiet seaside town. Back in the day I would have put money on the stories being reversed. B seemed to have all: amazing technique allied to musical maturity. A was very low key and I only remember one performance: Brahms 2 with the orchestra in his last term. Of the two he was more approachable and definitely more rounded as a person. And I think that was the biggest difference. Not hours in the studio.

Yep, it takes the "whole" person (not just the "talent" part) to create whatever kind of life they want. Hopefully, both artists A and B are happy!

Talent itself is a neutral attribute. Whether it is perceived as good or bad often depends on how it is nurtured, utilized, and integrated into one’s life and relationships with others. Effort, character, and mindset play significant roles in determining the impact of talent.
