🇦🇺I’ve seen people that have a roller with spikes on it the roll over the ground so water/ rain can penetrate the ground. Some of these rollers can be rolled by hand and others so on tractors. In some desert counties they use a plastic mesh fabric to collect water from the humidity, just an idea.

Water, have you looked into ollayas? Clay water vessels submerged near plants? I have seen do it yourself ( 2clay pots) or self watering systems with a " bucket."
