I heard this on my radio almost every morning in the latter part of 1973 as I was in my room, getting ready for school. I was eleven, I knew nothing about such things, and I could not figure out what these mysterious lyrics meant. I thought he was saying, " . . . as my trembling fingers touch *four little places*". What were these four places and why was he trembling when he touched them? For that matter, why was he touching them? How far was "this far"? What was the "chance" that they were taking? Aah. Eventually I figured it out. And man, what a voice. The way he perfectly hits every note. RIP Conway.

+Diane Twilley He didnt actually write this song. Back then songs were submitted to the record labels from any songwriter and if the label bought it the songwriter gave up all rights to the music. I was a little girl then but I remember people saying that this song was dirty and I even remember my mom not wanting it to be on when we kids were in earshot. I love love Conway. He was my Dads favorite too. They even looked alike. We seen him numerous times, mostly at Ponderosa Park. Dad's gone now we sure did play Hello Darling at the funeral home. I know he heard it n was happy as all.

Wasn't his best performance of this song. But what a voice. Gone too soon. His legend lives on.

I grew up with Conway from the beginning...."Its Only Make Believe" on American Bandstand! (Yes, I am that old & Conway was only 12 years older than I!) I fell in love with him & his music 'way back when God was a little boy. I was truly hurt when Elvis died...but I cried for several days when Conway died. The end of a legend... I felt a lot of that hurt when we lost George Jones & here lately, Toby Keith. I know I will feel it with Willie Nelson, too. But Conway? Conway still hurts me to think about it. His voice, that growl he could sing, like no other. The others I mentioned? Each one a special talent & irreplaceable!
