You can actually pick up your axes if they haven't hit an enemy. They will be stuck on some terrain and glow yellow. An interactive prompt will show up for you to pick them up. Literally the only "grenade" you can't waste missfiring. :D

if any promoted engi doesn't have that perk, he's trolling, i mean seriously. its literally the only perk in the category. unpromoted low level engies might not have it yet, understandably, but otherwise you either purposefully deactivated it or you didn't find out that the weapons & tools can be upgraded. Also to note is, that it doesn't completely negate fall damage, it just reduces it. if the drop is too big, you'll die anyway.
