she's not called the grudge she's called kayako saeki, the grudge is just the name for the 3rd and 4th part of the ju-on series and burning down the house will not solve the issue as even though she's tied to the house, she already ties herself to you when you enter the house and can also tie herself to locations her victims die in too. there is no escaping kayako at all once you step into the house.

fun fact. Japan uses salt to keep ghosts away, it's like a charm of sorts. Also, there are some serious charms called Ofuda which is essentially a special paper with symbols written by monks on it. It is believed to seal away ghosts, and often found behind furnitures in houses that are thought to be haunted. Tearing or tampering with it will wear out its power. So if you find a nice place to stay in Japan, try looking around places people normally wouldn't look. You might find a strange looking paper stuck on the walls or the corner of the ceiling.

he wasn't talking specifically about ju-on but the type of spirit the family is. ju-on is (depending on the continuity) tied to either the house itself or who it sees as the owner (and their family). since the original target of revenge died before ju-on was fully created it was left with no purpose (though it doesn't realize this) so it went with haunting either the house or the owner aimlessly. you'd think after all those deaths (especially the police ones) though that they'd seal off the property or tear it down and build a new house to use after blessing the land. such spirits NEED to be dealt with asap or they just get worse over time

If you’re of a mystical sort of mindset, a Shaman of the Blood can perform a rite called an Enemy Ghost Way and banish the onryo, but that sort of transects cultural barriers and might not work. Conversely, the Yamabushi priests were sort of revered as the Winchester Brothers of their time (literally who ya gonna call) because their guardian deity, Fudou, specifically called upon them to combat hostile spirits and poisonous beasts. These guys supposedly fought monsters, ghosts and demons for fun and profit.
