Here comes a delicious jam made with watermelon rind! After eating the juicy red watermelon pulp, use the peeled rind to make this sweet jam, it's really worth it!
You'll need
350 grams watermelon rind
1 tsp baking soda
Juice of 1/2 lemon
4 cups granulated sugar
4 cups water (800 ml)
6-7 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
Zest of 1/2 lemon
Water (for soaking the watermelon rind)
Here's how
1- First, remove the red parts inside the watermelon rind using a knife.
2- Peel the green part, leaving only the white part, by using a peeler.
3- Dice the rinds into small cubes. Place all the diced rinds into a suitable bowl.
4- Add baking soda, lemon juice, and enough water to cover the rinds. Let them soak like this for 1 hour.
5- After the time is up, drain the watermelon rinds through a sieve and wash them thoroughly.
6- In a separate pot, add granulated sugar, cloves, cinnamon, lemon zest, and water to prepare the syrup for the jam. Bring the syrup to a boil.
7- Once the syrup is boiling, add the rinds and cook them for about 1 hour.
8- After 1 hour of cooking, you can either jar the watermelon rind jam while it's hot or enjoy it fresh after it cools down. Bon appétit!
