Amazing, did not know that hydrogen peroxide was used in aquariums for that purpose. Wow every time I watch your videos I am learning so much. As one who struggles with algae that is unsightly but not overwhelming, I appreciate this video immensely. I thank you for being willing to share your years of experience and expertise. One question, when removing the plastic tube from the bottle in order to refill the peroxide, does air get into the system and make it necessary to recalibrate the pump at each refilling?

Kevin can you please do a video on ozone. The Brazilian ponds use ozone a lot. They have fine white sand in them and have basically zero algae in them due to ozone. Thanks

a few points on this hydrogen peroxide works before dosing your tank have it dose into a glass for at least 3 days to check the correct amount is being dosed. another way to measure your dosing fluid is weight it 1KG of water is 1000mL hydrogen peroxide is close enough to water to be same weight per mL. you can also dose your tank with a simple luer lock syringe and these are very cheap these are also known as peristaltic pump

When you use an automatic dosing pump, you calibrate it before you use it to make sure you get the right amount of milliliters added to your aquarium. They show you in the instructions how to calibrate it with the fluid you were using.

I have a 128 liter aquarium (probably 90 liter true water) It does seem to me that 30ml of hydrogen peroxide is a lot to dose. I'm using seachem's dosing and some of the largest doses daily there is around 6.5ml for my aquarium size. Have you had problems with moss dying due to hydrogen peroxide? I've spot dosed some before and unfortunately found out the hard way that certain mosses definitely don't like that haha. I can imagine that using an automatic doser of about 5ml of hydrogen peroxide for my aquarium size throughout the day, likely could be very beneficial.

90 L equals about 24 gallons of water or that would be a little over 2 ounces or 60mL of hydrogen peroxide.

I use a peristaltic pump for dosing and i have found a need to change the tubing about once a month because the tubing weakens and starts leaking. Good info , thanks.

Have you tried vinegar local treatment ? For BBA it's amazing.

The only trouble with vinegar it can alter the pH of your pond or aquarium. Where is hydrogen peroxide will not in any way affect your pH.

@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Yes it can but for spot treatment it turns the BBA red in seconds, I gess it's oxidation of the iron content of it, it gives a strong metalic smell.

Thank you very much for the informative video. I do know that hydrogen peroxide is used to treat algae but, really didn’t connect the two together at the end of the video. I have a quick question though. How essential is the timing of dosing the hydrogen peroxide? Does it need to be roughly mid hours of the aquarium light time when the plants/algae are photosynthesizing? Or can it be anytime(Even when lights are out)? I’m considering manually dosing as opposed to a dosing system. Purely because of a lack of space, not because I’m adversed to using one.

The dosing of hydrogen peroxide is really up to the hobbyist. It depends on your tank in your situation. I only does once a day, and if that's not enough, I will increase the amount that I does at the time.

Are you putting the hydrogen peroxide in just that one tank? Or are you doing that for all of them to keep algae away? I guess maybe you don't need to do it in your other tanks because the plenum and bcb is enough to keep the phosphates and Nitrates down with less bioload?

Yes, I'm only adding it to the lanai aquarium because that's the aquarium that gets the most food and has the biggest fish load in it. Also, the lights are on longer than any other aquarium I have.. That particular tank gets fed four times a day with double feedings from the automatic feeder. The other tanks only get fed once a day by me.

I have seen dosing hydrogen peroxide before but I never seen dosing it at 30 mL per 10 gallon, isn't that a bit too much? usually I see people say dose about 1 mL per 1 gallon or 1 mL for every 3 gallon. just curious how you got 30 mL per 10 gallon?

No 1 ounce per 10 gallons of water is the norm. Now, if you were spraying the hydrogen peroxide directly onto a plant, then you may come up with problems if you're spraying 1 ounce.Hydrogen peroxide has a half-life of five hours or less so that's something you really don't have to worry about .

I have a 200 gallon planted aquarium that is a sight to behold and a fixture on my KZbin channel. After 3 years of beauty I have black beard algae that forces me to trim back swords and anubias every three weeks or so. Would the hydrogen peroxide work to kill the BBA? What affect will it have on the plants themselves? The latter is my greatest concern. In spite of the BBA the plants currently grow very well.

You're the person why I did this video. By introducing every day 190 mL of hydrogen peroxide it has now put all algae that was out of control in control and the tank just looks a lot better along with the plants. I would say it's well worth your time and trouble to inject hydrogen peroxide into your aquarium every day as I showed in my video. Just remember it's 30 mL to each 10 gallons of aquarium water that you have.

It's a lot more convenient plus the fact you can add other elements to your aquarium at any time during the week without even thinking about it. The same thing marine-hobbyist do because of convenience..
