The issue I have with astrology boils down to the people who believe it is their entire identity, and that it excuses all of their actions. Like they act horrible to everybody around them and when they get called out they're like, "Well that's just how I am, I'm a Virgo! Tee-hee!" Like oh, ok, so because the planets and stars were aligned a certain way at the time you were born you get to act like an asshole for the rest of your life, makes sense.

yeah it has that issue, but so does a lot of beliefs tbh, or at least the ones i have experience with. like from my personal experience, a lot of my family is very christian, and they use it as an excuse to be a bigot towards my open and out trans sister, and really any minority. that behavior is hard to stop because it's become so normalized and popularizes in my area, and it's kinda similar in astrology as well in the sense that there are people who are christian but don't use it as an excuse to be an ass. in the case of astrology tho, people mostly only see the weird toxic side that use it as an excuse to act like shit, but that's just cause people make fun of those shitty people. yeah it's very funny and those people deserve to be called out and nade fun of for what theyve done, but at least from the people I've met, the whole community is definitely not like that. not accusing you of thinking that btw! I just wanna inform that a lot of people (including me before I met some really cool folks irl that's into it even if I'm currently not an astrological kinda person) believe that it's majority of the community, but from my experience that's not the case. so, yeah! I do agree tho, the poeple that are like that are so shit, and everyone that does that should be held accountable. anyways sorry for the paragraph, and if this came off as hateful in anyway, I apologize. struggle with wording things, so yeah. also my grammar sucks balls so commas sometimes get used to much lol

@@burgila7878 one of my personal issues with astrology is people wanting to know your starsign so they can "know your personality" (as happened with some friends of friends on a discord server I was in.) They reached out asking for my star sign cos they wanted to "scout people's personalities" which frustrates me because I don't wanna be categorised on something outside of my control (eg birthdate, sexuality, gender etc) People like that are also somewhat problematic as they decide your personality without getting to know you simply because of things that aren't relevant to you, and it feels like an unfair generalisation that takes away from someone because they could decide not to get to know you because of something like that, rather than getting to know you for who you actually are and not just what some person has said because the stars were in

@@Blackholebirb yeah I completely get that, like I think the whole star sign thing is fine because it's whatever you would want to believe, but you shouldn't use it to actually judge character/personality, especially on a first impression. like, from what I know about star signs, it's supposed to be a general guideline but can change super easy with certain other star signs, so if they fully believe in it, then they're not using it in the correct way. like generally there's not gonna be one Virgo that's exactly like the other, they're all different, even according to the star signs. It's just again being weird with astrology, and those people need to be called out by either someone with more info on the topic or just, someone who thinks it's poor behavior. if theyre willing to listen and change it at least for you and the people around you uncomfy about it, then that's a good first starting place. communication is a big part, so i thought id reccomend it if you haven't done it yet!

The thing with stuff like astrology/chiropracty/etc, is if it works for some people, that's good as long as it helps them. But the point about "being right" isn't just some academic elitism (though that by all means exists), it's so we can know the why and how of helping people. That allows us to more reliably help people, so we aren't giving unclear solutions to problems on a mass scale. The reason astrology "works" is not because of the association made between the patterns of stars/planets and our own lives. It's the self reflection which is induced from reading a horoscope in that context. You can do a similar practice and get similar results without making arbitrary connections to space. It's just more attractive and "aesthetic" to our creative/pattern seeking tendencies.

Can confirm about social media thing. When news got out about the newest worst KFC in the UK which where I lived. A few KZbinr with Million Subscribers made a video about which then caused more people to get KFC there. Which had the knock on effect of that KFC having more business but also more traffic which caused traffic jams due to the location of the KFC. As well as an accident I believe. Note the only reason it went to shit was because the new manager there pissed everyone off and all the good experience staff told the manager to pie off and left. And to this day, they are still looking for more staff members.

The fun thing about the "jet fuel can't melt steel beams" claim is that it is completely true. It's also irrelevant. Jet fuel doesn't need to burn hot enough to melt the steel, just hot enough to soften it to the point that it can't support the weight of the rest of the building above. Anyone who uses that as a reason 9/11 "had to be" an inside job needs to watch a swordsmithing video. That metal ain't melted, but it's still soft enough to fold, press, extrude, and shape into a sword.
