Either that or Catholics aren’t strongly encouraged to read the Bible for themselves but to trust the Church on such matters. The verses they have you read are only the ones they select themselves for their specific agendas. It’s partly why the entire Bible passages used in the Readings of the Mass are repeated in three year patterns-year A, Year B, Year C then year A again without variations. Or both.

@@jool4867 So, by "Trans Theory" I'm assuming the caller means gender critical scholarship, or gender theory, and it's actually fascinating! It's a field of social science that intersects with many other subfields and actually does effect all of us as members of a complex interconnected society. Luckily the last 15 years has seen massive leaps in gender critical scholarship and publication, especially as part of a larger movement within intersectional feminist theory. There's a great mamy books these days about trans issues that are really helpful to dive into, especially for cis folks like myself. Always more to learn.

Thankfully I’ve now completed replacing my weak Christian foundations with solid foundations of secular humanism. The more we study the extant writings from ancient Assyria and Egypt, the more we realize that pretty much any good piece of advice in the New Testament - and that isn't much - was something we'd figured out centuries earlier, and many of the good bits got lost in translation. Any enginerd knows it makes sense to build a house on a solid foundation; don't need no faith to understand that. Conflating common engineering principles with building faith on "For the Bible Tells Me So" is a non-sequitur.

I think it's really kind of wild that there is a flavor of apologetics that essentially says "I'm right if you start with the assumption that I'm right", and that ANYONE that thinks this is even taken remotely seriously. It really is on par with saying "nuh uh" and calling it a day. There is no reason to have a conversation with a presup. It never goes anywhere, the script is almost always the same structure, and 8 times out of 10 they take the mask off at the end and expose themselves and bigoted(there's a huge correlation there). It's nothing but broken thinking and I think the best we can do is point it out, laugh, and move on. I'm convinced a huge chunk of them don't really believe it, they just know no one can argue with it and they are trolls who like to try make atheists angry and insult us.

Apologists often source someone like Ehrman from the critical-historical field, twist heir beliefs and fail to acknowledge the entire field find this to be a mythology based on non-supernatural real events and added Hellenistic/Persian/Jewish mythology. He starts by downplaying an entire field by saying "Bart Ehrman types" then pretends he doesn't know Ehrman's beliefs on the theology. Ehrman believes (based on evidence), Mark was using a story he knew from traditional folk tales. "Moreover, one can imagine strictly literary reasons for “inventing” the women at the empty tomb. Let’s suppose it was Mark himself who invented the story. I personally don’t think he did; there is no way to know, of course, but my suspicion is that it was a story Mark inherited from his tradition. " I don't believe he reads Ehrman's blog, there is no way a fundamentalist like that would entertain anything that doesn't support their beliefs. In "Jesus Interrupted" Ehrman completely dismantles the commonly held beliefs and shows that the historical field is something theology and NT studies majors have to completely ignore. He talks about speaking at churches and people asking him "why wasn't I ever taught this information?". For someone who's main evidence is "the holy spirit told me", they are not interested in anything beyond delusional beliefs. Of course, God tells Mormons if they ask the holy spirit with true intention, the holy spirit will tell them Mormonism is all exactly true. (The Promise of Moroni 1-34) Krishna tells Hindu he is real, they feel him in their heart. In this day and age, how can people not do honest investigation of beliefs. How is truth not valuable to so many people?

One who is truly born again, born of the Spirit (Holy Spirit) can never be unborn of the Spirit. Religion will save no one. Those who say they were once a believer never knew Jesus Christ (Spirit to spirit) because if they did, they would never not believe again. One can turn away from religion, but one can never turn away from being born of the Spirit (Holy Spirit).

I always like to ask Christians ONE question about "the empty tomb". WHY would Pontius Pilate treat Jesus differently than other criminals who were crucified? Because the Romans didn't do what we do today and allow friends or family members to claim the bodies for burial. Generally, they were only taken down if room was needed for other condemned criminals, and when that happened, the bodies were simply tossed aside like garbage. But the Biblical account of Pilate is laughable. It portrays him as a weak, scared governor who could be easily intimidated. We know from the historical records that the actual historical Pilate was anything but that. If he hadn't wanted to crucify Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders had threatened to tell Ceasar...Pilate would have let Jesus go and crucified them. He was not a governor who especially cared about getting along with the Jews he governed - it was his way or the highway...on a cross.

So Jesus said fools built their houses on sand, and that the houses will fall. I can point out a luxury home on the beach in Malibu that's built on sand, has not settled a bit, been there over 50 years. The house lasted longer than Jesus.
