1:12 it's a Roselle,a type of wild flower that have many use,you can peel the petal and boil it with sugar to make a cordial or tea either serve as hot or cool, the taste are kind of like grape mix with strawberry, it's my favourite drink especially when it hot out there, the drink are really good for the bodies because it lower glucose in the blood but diabetic patient should beware,it also good for digestion so yeah,a very good plant in South East Asia

Yea told you, you'd love our laksa. Dan if you go further down the road, just opposite the small buddist temple there's a food eatery called Bishop's gate. They also sell laksa. But you should try their kueh chap and pork satay. Kueh chap is famous as a breakfast dish in Sarawak. Our laksa is different from others because the laksa paste uses about 28 different herbs and spices so the taste is very unique. That's why the late Anthony Bourdain call it the "Breakfast of the Gods".

Actually you dont have to pour all the sambal in there. It make the broth more salty. The correct way to eat the laksa is put all the stuffs in the spoon including the chicken meat, and the egg then eat it. While you chewing the noodle, scoop some broth n sip it with the spoon. Then take some sambal with your chopstick and chew them together. That is the art of eating laksa. The steps apply to all soupy dishes in sarawak
@DanvsFood2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for letting me know how to eat this dish and other dishes in sarawak 🙏🙏🙏
@bungaialoevera2 жыл бұрын
1:05 That's roselle. It's a plant in the same family (Hibiscus) as the bendi/lady's fingers. 1:57 That is locally known as "terung Dayak" or "Dayak eggplant". It's a type of eggplant with a sourish taste sort after by locals especially the indigenous Dayak community. You can't find that growing in the peninsula. Some have tried growing them behind their backyard or in pots but not very successful. NOT pumpkin at all. 😆 3:45 That's a looooooooooooooooooooong way to keep the broth! 5:12 Calamansi. Give the broth a bit of tang. 10:20 Who invented it? There are not one story, so... it's hard to say but it's accepted that the first packed laksa paste was the Swallow brand by a Mr. Tan. 11:45 It's okay if you like Penang laksa more. 😄 It's not a competition. Each has their own uniqueness. For us Sarawakians... our laksa being given the title of "breakfast of the gods" by the late Anthony Bourdain is already a wonderful thing.
@DanvsFood2 жыл бұрын
Haha, not a competition, just trying to figure out which one was better. Impossible to say 😅 ah wow, thanks for all of your detailed answers and information Do, that's amazing! I'd have swore that was pumpkin though 🤣🤣 have an awesome day!

Malaysia has 13 states and each state has their own laksa. To me Penang laksa is fishy, Kl laksa is nyonya curry type and Sarawak Laksa is actually cooked in prawn shells and chicken together and some sambal. Another advisable practise here dan. i noticed you like drinking the broth first before eating noodles in malaysia. That reduced the volume and the noodles are not soaked properly in the hot broth to soften it. Do not do that. Eat the noodles and stuff first before drinking the broth later. I mean you have all the time in the world later to drink it. Do not dry up the bowl halfway down and start eating noodles. Not a good prastise.
