Ingredients for a 24x24 cm baking dish:
5 eggs
125 g sugar
100 g all-purpose flour
100 g poppy seeds
125 g melted butter or margarine
5 dl milk
a pinch of salt
Instructions:
Separate the eggs, placing the yolks and whites in separate bowls.
In a bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until creamy. Then, gradually incorporate the melted but cooled butter or margarine. Add the flour, poppy seeds, and milk to the mixture, and stir until smooth and free of lumps.
In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the milk mixture, being careful not to deflate the batter.
Pour the rather liquid batter into the baking dish lined with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F) and bake for approximately 60 minutes using both upper and lower heat.
Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing. You can dust the top with powdered sugar for added sweetness and decoration.
