Dan!! It’s 5:00 am and I’m headed out the door to greet the rain and snow blowing sideways to go fishing. But I had to take a moment and watch your video. I’ve fished that same fly the way you did at the same lake and had great luck. But I never tried it at any other waters as I thought it was tailored towards that species and lake. I’m definitely going to give it a try the next few trips. Maybe even at the lake I’m headed to today!! Thanks for the advice and confidence to try new flys!! Fish on!

We used to do something similar with small Rapala mini floating crankbaits behind a three way with a heavy sinker to pull it down. Short line for the crank limits the amount of line twist like you were saying. I propose you call it the DrowndGurglerTechnique or DGT for short.

Hi Dan, when listening to or talking to anglers I’ve noticed the same color palettes. Purple and black, and chartreuse are always go to Lures/flies.

FFD, that fly reminds me of a "natural presentation" version of a spoon. Maybe not, as I haven't fished this pattern; just looking at the shape and hypothesizing whether it's a reactionary / predatory strike situation type of streamer(?). ☮ from Idaho.

Maybe experiment with puting the foam front down with the eye of the hook going thru it. Now you would have a diving gurgler/wiggler.
