IIIIII have been waiting for this!!! This is SUCH A GEM for someone like me, desperate to reconnect with Slovenian culture. My grandparents who immigrated forbade the kids to speak Slovenian, to help them "acclimate" to the U.S., and so much was lost. Really appreciate your shares like this!

In Czech - leden, únor, březen, duben, květen (máj), červen, červenec, srpen, září, říjen, listopad, prosinec :) It´s kind of tricky :) Listopad is the same, while "prosinec" is December for us... Same like with Polish, where kwiecień would be april, but květen means May in Czech...
@@huberthorsky611, once I was booking online a visit in a passport office in one of the biggest city in Poland. To my great confusion, a software was apparently written by a Czech company, because a calendar form had the names of months i Czech! I was booking my visit in May but there was no Maj (May) in a calendar but there was květen instead😄

Beside a generally different pronunciation to Slovenian and an accent put, listopad is also the name of November in Polish. Gruden = grudzień. Both months' meanings are perfectly the same in Polish to the Slovenian ones.

Hey, little Squirrelie. Interesting shirt, especially with tattoo on arm, XD. Did know that originally the year in Romulus calender started in March and was missing Januari and Februari. March (Martius aka Month of Mars), May (Maius aka Month of Maia), July (Quintilis) and October had 31 days during. While April (Aprilis aka month of Apru/Aphrodite), June (Iunius aka Month of Juno), August (Sextilis), September, november and December had 30 days. Than king Numa had Januari (Ianuarius aka Month of Janus) and Februari (Februarius aka Month of Febru) at the end 1st in order 2 fill the winter months (what later was put at the beginging (when isn't exactly known and some have discussions aboot it) and with it Quintilis changed 2 July (in honor of Julius Ceasar) and Sextilis was changed into August (because of Augustus)). Januari, April, June, August, September, November and December now have 29 days, while Februari had 28 days, the rest 31 days. Than a Pontifex Maximus (the high priest of the College of Pontiffs in ancient Rome) made it that every leap year (what was every 2 year instead of 4) a exta month was added, named Intercalaris. In the leap year Februari had 23/24 days instead of 28 and the Intercalaris had 27/28 days. Than Julius Ceasar became Pontifex Maximus. He changed it that every 4 year it was just 1 day added in Februari (what have 28 days normaly), either Januari, March, May, July, August, October and December had 31 days and rest 30 days. Thus the Julian calender was made with 365.25 days, but Pope Gregory XIII noticed that days were slower and had it 365.2425 (later it was shown it is 365.2422 instead), either skipped 13 days. Either the Romans copied the Greek calender, what had lunar cycle of 29.5 days and a solar year of 12.5 synodic months (meeting of sun and moon) (368.75 days). Either Romans used Nundinae aka nundine aka 8 days weeks (what did give some problems, as it doesn't really fit well, so the nundinae fell on a different letter each year (what in turn that these letters created the basis of the later Christian dominical letters). You should do weekdays next. BTW you r getting close to 50K. Stay awesome and positive, Little Squirrelie 🐿📆.

Zelo dobro ! Najlepša hvala, Barbara. I felt sorry that the Slovene language doesn't have colorful names for months, like Croatian, Czech or Polish. Croatia is just across the border, why did it keep the old names and you didn't ? Likewise, you don't have the vocative case anymore, like Croatian or Czech. We cannot call to you "Barbaro !"
@tienshinhan252411 күн бұрын
In Slovene Slavic months still existed but they are not used. Latin months are used, but those Slavic ones still existed {they are not obsolete}. About vocative... Slovene offical don't have vocative case but in Slovene language still existed words in vocative, such as "oče" (father) original in nominative is "otec/očec". Then names such as "Jure" instead "Jurij", "Jože" instead "Jožef" etc. When I lived in Slovenia my neighbor that had a rabbit, she called that "moj zajče" which is vocative from "zajec" & they're grandchildren "moj vnuče/otroče" which is vocative form of "vnuk/otrok". So vocative still exist in some coloqual form.
