Kevin, I've dealt a lot with Lowes and Home Depot, and how you deal with that is make the call, when they tell you it's in stock, do a phone order for pick up. The cash register will not let them charge you if it's not really there. That's saved me MANY wasted trips. 😁

@@mysticonetoo1 that is TRUE. I was trying to buy an Arrow shed for the farm I saw online and sheds are scarcer than hens teeth! The store put the order in the register and it was when they tried to complete the order and run the card that it wouldn't go through. (Yes, the card was good!) The girl had to go physically and find one on the shelf that met my needs, then the sale went through.

I have worked for Lowe's and I couldn't tell you how many times I've had customers tell me that they called and was told the item is in stock, they get there and it's not. I never tell a customer it's in stock without seeing the actual product. The inventory system at Lowe's sucks. Plus it's sad how lazy people are getting nowadays, by not wanting to do their job.

We had the same problems buying an auger and our goat fencing recently. We had to call and have them physically go verify their stock. We still had to drive 2.5 hrs to find a store that actually had the stuff we needed. So frustrating!

Watched your video earlier today and had to tell my mom about your experience with “Lowes”. She said she has been thinking about writing a booked called “Her Woes with Lowes”. My parents have been waiting since 10/1/2021 for their new raised toilet and still hasn’t gotten it installed. They had gotten a schedule appointment for the installation BUT Lowes sold their new toilet to someone else. She went back and was told to call to get the installer herself, that didn’t settle well. Went this past Friday about it and was told “We have 18 in stock” haha does this sound close, but they have until Friday to get it taken care of or it won’t be very pretty. Hoping for the best

When it becomes cheaper to import than to manufacture and the price is reflected in retail the consumer - you and me - buys the lower price. This has been going on for a very long time, decades, and will take time to resolve. It won't be easy on the consumer but unless we reduce or stop buying as much as possible from China nothing will change.

Kevin so many things we are use to walking into a store and buying are just not there anymore (especially in the bigger chain stores) ever since this pandemic started. And if you do happen to find the item in another store the price of it is a lot of times more than doubled what it was almost 2 years ago. We are living in crazy times. Orscheln is here in Iowa too. It is only 15 miles away from my house in Oskaloosa. Lowes is 60 miles away in Des Moines. TSC and Menards are 45 miles away in Ottumwa. I live in rural area too. Almost forgot there is a Theisens in Pella

Same thing happened to me at Lowes in Grove. I looked up roofing sheet metal and it said they had 90 pieces. Went to pick it up and they couldn't find it 🤦‍♀️ super annoying. I hired a truck to haul it for me so it was a huge fail.

Years back in the '80's when I remodeled old homes. Lowe's and Home Depot did not have the old trim work that I needed. But, there was a place in Athens, GA (Normal Town Hardware it's been there since the late 1800's). They had a basement full of very old wood trim / old fasteners / most everything I needed to complete a really old Home restoration back to original. The owner was a friend and he would let me go to the basement and hand pick the things I needed.. It was awesome ! Thanks to Normal Town Hardware, I had several homes featured in Southern Living, Homes and Gardens, as well as other Remodeling magazines. Everyone Loved to see a true to the era restoration..

Hi Kevin, just a tidbit of info for a hanging door to keep it from sagging. You'll need a turnbuckle, fairly hefty wire, two eye bolts (as long as your thickness in the corners). On the upper corner next to your hinge, then on the lower opposite corner the other eye bolt. Wrap wire around eye bolt back on itself

At the end, hopefully, of total renovation of a house in Ft Worth I’ll be moving to. Finally, just started checking on Amazon first for the bits and pieces to finish. They have had just about everything I’ve needed and with quicker delivery time than the box stores in town because not in stock at the stores! Had just ordered floor door stops for my barn door then saw your video. My stops will be here tomorrow!! Good luck on the door building. The problem in finding anything at any store is they don't really carry any overstock so for the most part if it's not on the floor It has to be order from the wearhouse. This so a store doesn't have money tied up on product sitting in the backroom.

Until the recent building of a distribution warehouse, they ordered as needed from suppliers & didn't keep inventory in storage. Biden's supply mess is causing big businesses to buy up inventory and store it.

This is to address the side door of the barn. I've built two doors myself and I try to put a corner to corner brace from the bottom of the opening side to the top of the hinge side. It's worked out pretty good for me on my barn.

I have a new way of doing things. I check on line 1st. Then call the store, and ask the courtesy counter to please bring the item to their counter for pick up within 1 hour. That way I don't waste my time and energy. I'm elderly. A lot of things I have delivered. The hardware store has regular delivers every other day by college students they hired.. 😂 "Target" kept me on phone, got my cases, and put my name on it, and it was at courtesy counter for me to pick up., A lot of times people on phone check computer stock, and they show its their. BUT, by the time you get their its gone. That's why I have them pull it from the shelf, put my name on it. We live in a new world of shopping. I'm 72, I'm not going to have conflicts in stores. Its not worth it. Come holidays here in New York, people hurt people in stores, and even worse getting a parking space. Being old, I'm a target. Lots of desperate immigrants, dropped off by government. Thought I was going to be mugged at 7 11 convenience store due to, look I got from two men. Lots of handbag robberies going on in the last 3 months. (Immigrants). And I'm in the suburbs. LOL. G-D Bless.

I swear one job I had to drive to 9 different places to get all we needed...me the wife running while he was working...IT GETS SO FRUSTRATING! They should be able to keep an inventory of what they have and/or take numbers to tell people what gets sold...idk something.... I had to wait for windows on a garage I was doing for like 10 weeks I think it was. Made a almost one month job for one man take over two months...so embarassing. Having to do without straw for awhile for my pets too...etc...and I'm in KY...smh You are not alone. Menards is the one that the window order took so long. P.S. I was totally pregnant until Apr and I kid you not they, none of em, give special consideration to ppl who need help carrying stuff to their vehicle. Only exception I saw is where Menards would help, if someone was there in the back, sometimes being the key word there. Ridiculous how they keep their businesses.

Well now you know to check close to home first. It's getting harder and harder to find house remodeling stuff in stock. Had a friend who wanted to order a new front door and it was cheaper and less time to have it custom made. I'm hoping once they get those ports unloaded and goods start moving across the US things will get better. I hate that history really does repeat itself...You'd think we'd figure that out by now. I also go online and check what’s in stock and especially HD or Lowe’s I write down the location within the store so I can go right to the item BUT sooooo many time I get to the location and item is not there and employees have never seen it or remembered it ever being in stock. I wonder if they have it on the website to lure you into the store. Really frustrating

After 30 years of building construction and having pro-accounts at both stores, I have only had a handful of incidents of items not being in stock according to the website. The website is directly connected to the stores inventory if you select a specific store. If the item showed "in stock" on the website at that store, it would show in stock on the stores inventory as well. It seems odd within a short time the inventory count went from "in stock" to "ship to store".

Those hangers I also have been looking at all year long. Yet have not bought any yet because I am not that far along on my fence. Where I live here. Its always an hour drive one way. To save me money. I try to preplain what I need and when I mint need it. The order it from online. Most places free shipping. I realize I am only 3:16 into your information. I just looked again before writing this. They still have an wide selection to choose from. If my local stores to an hour away are not going to have what I need. Then I will get it elsewhere. Like any company, factory or store what the computer says is often not reality. You have to go and see. You would think that if they scan an item in when the store receives it, then scans it when they sell it, the count would be accurate. Well with the items that people don't normally steal.

When I worked at Orscheln Farm & Home I always told people our online count was off and to call us. We carried rail and Stanley kits, also takes someone competent on the other end to help you out. That’s 90% of the challenge.

The inventory is not correct because corporate desided to do honesty trucks and which has screwed inventory. It says we have things we dont and we have triple of what we dont need. That's about yo be fixed in 45 days at our store. Inventory will happen and we will have a full count. Its frustrating on our side too. People also need to come back to work. Working has been a awful daily beat down. I just want to quit after 25 years. I hope it gets better for your store. I'm at a stay home vacation right now to feel better. God bless.

I have had similar disappointments in the past. What I now do is ask the clerk to physically go to the shelves and see if what I am looking for is actually on the shelf. I let them know that I am coming from quite a distance and I do not want to be disapointed to find out that their computer was wrong and there was no product in stock. I once was in a store, Lee Valley, and saw a tool that I wanted. When I asked the clerk at the desk for the tool he informed me that they were out of stock. After informing him that they actually had one on display he told me that they could not sell the display item. I will do my best to avoid shopping at that store.

Orscheln's is based here in my town, I was going to suggested them but I was not sure they were down there where you are, and they where bought out by Tractor Supply last year but I think they are just leaving the name on there because people are used to seeing the "local" name.

I just quit working part time at the Orschelns in Lincoln, Nebraska a couple months ago. We were told it would take a couple years for them to flesh things out. Stores with one of each it’s hard to tell. Would likely depend on loyalty and the amount of business. That is unless they are next to each other in town. For most farm things I leave disappointed from TSC about 90% of the time.

Kevin my sister and her husband own a Hardware and General Store in NC. A little far to drive but they do carry a lot of "kitchen sink" items that maybe some of the other stores don't carry. You can order what they carry online. They may carry stiff that the "big box" hardware stores don't sell because they serve a lot of people in the surrounding communities who may not want to drive an extra 20-30 miles to a larger city. I think most of these stores "the Big Box stores" only carry in stock the biggest demand items. They make the other stuff available online.

Mountains of NM I always check my local stores, like you for pricing, quantity and availability...! Ace Hardware, True Value, Walmart, Autozone, NAPA, O'Reilly's Auto Parts, a couple others..! I get the same treatment, I call first "Oh Yeah it's in Stock" I get over there and they have none....! Then it's the "We can order it for ya, it'll be here tomorrow...!" I do that, pre pay for it... I call the next day, "oh, sorry it wasn't on the Truck.....!" WTH....? I ordered it...! So I pretty much said no more Local Yo-cal shopping... on-line only and its here in a few days...! "Kevin..... In a recent video of yours I commented about a Homelite $99.00 Weed Eater I guy tossed in the Dumpster cuz of "Stale Gas", you replied to me w/a comment of something like " Most viewed Comment" or similar and it said to contact at "What Sap & a number....? Can't you fabricate some of the parts from steel stock while waiting for others ? You could have made the box rail from rectangular tubing by just grinding a slot out of it if you couldn't have found it. Stock up on some steel when you get a chance that you could use for different projects. It always comes in handy. Every farm should have a dedicated scrap steel hoard for surprise projects or repairs. Have a great day 😊.

Similar situation with CVS drug store. I called and said I wanted to make sure you had a specific item before I made the drive. They came back on the phone and stated that they indeed did have the item. I immediately drove there - and no one could find the item. I asked to speak with the individual that answered the phone and I gave him a piece of my mind. I told him never tell someone you have it in the store if you didn't check. He apologized and said he would never do that again. I was furious!

I wanted some boots..there was on sample on the shelf. The employee checked inventory said 6 in different sizes in stock. Not one found. Employee said they have a thief who comes in and grabs and runs with a pile of boxes. 😣never trust computer inventory.

Each store is stocked a little differently to reflect the current buying trends in that area both in quantities and sorta,, kinda in actual stuff. Thier "speciality" is that they have parts to repair things as both individuals and kits. Thier other speciality is that if you want it, for a price, they will find it if its available and special order it despite who the supplier or manufacturer is; again for a price. They are also good at sourcing from other stores within thier chain, verifying physical inventory with thier other stores, and depending upon the size or weight having it delivered to the local store free of charge if you're willing to wait the 1 to 7 days it takes to make it. Else, it can be done sooner for a fee as can larger items/ volumes/ heavier items. They are VERY willing to put your name on an item for customers to pick up on thier own at a different store. Or in the case of the contractor with a very disdapointing experience at one of the box stores to arrange his own pickup route among a couple of stores with truck and flatbed; as he drove out of one, tney called ahead to the next to have personnel and loading equipment waiting.
