Take it from someone who learned the hard way. Keep close track of where they are sobthey dont get near your residence. I lost mine when squaters took over when I was visiting family. When I lived out, I was 5 miles from town but word got out that I carried a gun and wasn't afraid to use it. I was in law enforcement at the time. I didn't go out without buckling on my gun belt, even going to the gate. Not only people trespassing but all kinds of wildlife. My husband hated me doing that. I had to protect my children and farm animals. This was in the 70s.

Rachel and Kevin, one thing is for sure. You want to document reports to the authorities, especially if you have any suspicion that someone may be trespassing and cooking drugs on your property. The reason is that the authorities might later decide to try to seize assets (the property) because of the drug manufacture. If you have any doubts, make sure you document and report every time. That documentation can provide you legal support for your complaints. I suggest that you report, document, and protect yourself. As I said, eventually, the authorities may become interested in your property (for free if they decide they want to seize it because people are making drugs on your property). It is possible that they might try to seize your vehicles, your tractor, etc., if that's easier than the real property! Just protect yourself legally. You don't want to have to fight them in court to get your property back!

True my mother was the first drug forfeiture seizure in CA, she won but it took 3 years in court and she couldn't get a lawyer due to the fact that the lawyer under the forfeiture law could also have their property taken.. The Feds even charged the bank, the water co. and the electric company $10,000 each for their involvement. They all got their money back when she won but the bank told my Mom that they had 5 more hit them.

Yes I know people that lost their farm because they were unaware of people using their property to cook drugs on illegally back in a wooded mountainous area that was theirs. That property had been in five generations and they lost it because it was seized as part of the seizure when they arrested the drug cookers even though the people on the land were elderly they still took it away because it was part of the drug seizure.

You need wildlife cameras to monitor the area against these people, then you notice them when they are there and not when they are already gone. Also, it would be better if you go there with several people, for example neighbors, and not individually. This increases your security and the appearance and the external effect is also a much stronger.

Your problem is, if you allow people to walk on your private property, and people WILL take advantage. There have been cases that a squatter stayed so long, they had the right to that land, and the owner was trespassed! You need signs all over that read no trespassing. Trespassers will be prosecuted at the fullest extent of the law! You are trying to be nice to families, but if someone is injured on your property, YOU can be sued! You need to protect you and your family, or someone will "be injured" and you could lose everything! In order to prosecute someone for trespassing, you must post signs stating no trespassing, and that they may be prosecuted if they trespass, at least in Ohio. Talk with a lawyer about the requirements of where to post signs, the distance apart, and if you need fencing. It's well worth getting advice from a lawyer. Unfortunately, in these days, you can't just allow families to take walks on your property. There WILL be someone who will take advantage of it! Those drugged out individuals could be growing pot on your land, and you could be held responsible! Please, protect your family, and your family's land from those who would try to destroy or steal it. Do not allow ANYONE that's not family, to use it. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE WHO IS NOT FAMILY TO HUNT THERE. If they get hurt, you may have to pay!!!

There was a place in Columbia that Mt unit came across, that the property owner / farmer killed the trespassers and left the bodies where they fell. It was better than no trespassing signs. The bodies were far enough from his dwelling that the stench of the rotting corpses didn't bother him. The bodies were on his land just inside his fences. Too bad we couldn't do that in the U.S.

Reminds me of my own scary experience a while back. My little cousin nervously told us that there's an intruder at the backyard of my uncle's house where I was staying. I had a BB air pistol so I thought I could scare off the intruder. When I went out the intruder had already leaped over the fence to our neighbor's back yard. So I relaxed and shoved my air pistol in my pocket. My cousin turned pale and was unable to move for a few seconds. Then I realized there was another man who just leaped over the fence behind me chasing the first one and then another following him. And those 2 men were police officers. My cousin said that the first Police Officer had his gun aiming at my back and my cousin really thought that he was going to pull the trigger in a split second. A third officer came to me to sort it out and they knew it was a BB gun and told us to stay inside. I came to know later that the first Police Officer had a split second to decide if I was a threat to be eliminated because of the BB gun even though it had a clearly bright orange tip that supposed to be noticeable even in the dim light. If I was facing him at that time and holding the air pistol he would have not enough time to think about the orange tip and he could have shot me before it would down on him that it was an air pistol.

Each state is different but in New Mexico with around 27, I believe, Tribes and Pueblos you can't buy land under tribal jurisdiction. In fact some Tribes can get pretty agressive about trespass by non tribal members. Could you discuss some of the issues on your next Live broadcast? Have you considered placing a Cam that alerts you on your phone about trespassers or does the off grid area prevent that? I'm not tech savvy. Hope your 4th weekend ended up good.

I feel for you. I remember the two transients who decided to go into out lean to horse shed when I was a kid. They not only built a small fire right next to our horse's feet, but went through a window in my brother's bedroom into the kitchen and stole food and formula and threatened me when I went to take care of the two horses we had! I went back and told my dad who called the sheriff to come get them. And so I want to encourage you to call the marshals and have them come out and get them. It might be that they are wanted if they're clear out there. And get footage of them and share it with the marshals. Maybe you might be just being good stewards of the land like your father before you who made it safe for you as kids to go there. Get more than one gun to go up there so your wife will have one in case there is need of it. And don't forget the marshals is for everyone.

bulls definitely work . :) but legally if they (the trespassers) stay in or within a few feet of the creek they are actually covered by the law. this even include totally dry gullies and intermittent streams and even spontaneous erosion channels due to rainstorms. the law which was pretty bad for land owners before was made much worse during the Obama administration as part of a power grab by the relevant agencies to continue to take more control of the land away from private owners.

you do have a right to protect yourself and your property but you do not have the right to use that firearm against someone that isn't a threat to you. @@Fiona2254 That is objectively false. In no state can you shoot someone for merely trespassing. You can't even shoot them if they are vandalizing property. I am assuming you live in Texas bc most folks there think they are free to do as they wish but this penal code is mirrored in all 50 states. If you would like I'll show you the code for your specific state. For example, in Texas, Texas Penal Code 9.32 states that Deadly Force may be lawfully used to prevent imminent commission of sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, murder, robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Included in the laundry list of offenses is home invasion, and car jacking although in Texas those terms are officially not used. TPC 9.42 adds burglary and arson. Basically if you are not in immediate danger you cannot shoot, if it is not in your domicile you cannot shoot, if you do you better have a great reason why or you will go to jail even if someone was trespassing on your property.

Get a couple of Rotties and train them. They are awesome dogs especially if your family goes to the creek with the kids. This will stop and Rotties will scare them to death just the sight or bark is enough for them to know not to come back. Have owned 5 full-blooded Rotties they are awesome for kids and families very protective easy to train. Powerful electric fence installed.
