Azhar university is over a thousand years old. Its one of the centers of Islamic knowledge today along with Islamic universities in Madina Saudi Arabia. You can find Muslims from all ethnicities coming to Azhar.

Had a visit of Egypt at the end of 2018 and ate in the same restaurant you did and sat at the table you looked at from your table. :) I hired a local guy guy via a friend of mine in US who took my friend and me to that restaurant where the locals go. It was good and fun! Keep on traveling!

That felucca going under the bridge is what you want to check out at night. They got the lights on and the music playing with everybody dancing. But go further down the river behind the Ritz on the corniche behind Tahrir Square. Look for the feluccas that has the most excitement then rush to get on that one before it leaves. Also make sure to catch the Tanoura Shown. It's back near Khan el Khalili where you were in the other video at night, but it's on the right side of the street which is Sharia Al Azhar. It's near the entrance to the bridge over Al Azhar Street. I think it's Wednesday nights and it's free. It's a really good show.
