Some Singaporean men get uncomfortable with girls who don't dress conventionally because they feel emasculated by it. I'm so glad that *not* dressing for the male gaze is gaining more traction. Same goes with makeup. Men still think that women dress up and wear make up FOR men lol but I'm so happy that millennials and Gen Z's have largely moved away from trying to be conventionally attractive for male validation. JUST DO YOU, GIRLS.

Most guys I know don't think anyone is dressing up for them... If anything, most men are invisible to society.

I guess in SG, conventional beauty is also largely based on the looks with the majority race like Leah mentioned. Minorities like me have a whole other struggle to deal with regarding these beauty standards. Eg: being called pretty for an Indian or you're dark but pretty. Always got the backhanded insults with it. Haha. Guess that's another topic to uncover in another epi! 😊

I cried really badly when I had cancer. Not bcos I had cancer, but bcos I’m so depressed from losing all my hair. Everyone judges, it’s a repetitive toxic cycle to explain and ppl do walk up to you to tell u ‘Why don’t you try this shampoo cos you no hair!’ I I personally think before you even know the person’s story behind y she is looking like that, you shouldn’t even judge. Tbh, many Singaporeans are busybodies. lol

the ironic thing is that the more you use the lens of judging people based on appearance, the more you will invite people to do the same to you, and the more you will hang out / attract people with similar viewpoints. Unfortunately it also depends on industry, and i think these superficial viewpoints are esp prevalent in media. The mistake people like Leah make is that she thinks people in the media industry represent the entire world - they do not. But if she brings her media lens to interact with everyone else, she will attract people of similar vibes, or misconceive the intentions of others thinking they're all the same.

Most creative insult that I’ve been insulted with was from a small child who said to my face “you look better with your mask on.” 🥲 it was during Covid days and I still don’t think I’ve recovered from it.
