I found your channel about a month ago...we did a short road trip and stayed in hotels...my lovely wife suggested “this trip would have been so much better if we had an RV and didn’t have to worry about hotel rooms! So the search is on for a “weekend warrior RV for us. While I am a remote worker, my job isn’t one that I could do from an RV. I have appreciated your honesty and lighthearted approach to life. Looking forward to getting on the road some in the not too distant future! Thank you for all your videos!

@@todayissomeday Good. There is a difference between 'having' and regularly 'using' them though. Only you know the honest answer to that one. In the meantime, research on line and familiarize yourself with them. The Catrike manufacturer of Orlando, Florida makes an excellent range of models. Test rides at certain dealerships are free and they give you the chance to actually ride and experience some models. And put the topic out to seniors who would love to still be riding bikes, but have balance and/or strength issues that keep them from doing so. And remember that they quickly fold up to be conveniently stored inside the RV.

I prefer my 37 foot rv fifth wheel with my Dodge Ram with the 6.4 liter. I get 9 miles to the gal at 65 miles an hour. That way I only have one vehicle to service instead of two. Yes the camper has to be serviced to but not as often. Our camper is a three slide keystone cougar 327 res pulls nice. Have watched some of your outher videos and they are great. It was a transition through numerous types for us. We started in a tent and worked our way from that to pop ups, trailers, and smaller motorhomes. What makes our current RV perfect for us is that we wanted comfort and was willing to sacrifice not staying in National Parks. We wanted 4 seasons, a BIG diesel, (605 HP) air ride, and with huge windows. 1&1/2 bath is nice too.

For us , the number 1# factor when we choose our RV was "Build Quality". We researched RV's for a long time before buying one. We found that the Outdoors RV Mfg. Travel Trailers were the best built RV ( in their class ) in our opinon. We looked at a lot of RV's that were beautiful on the inside , but it was lipstick on a pig ( for lack of a better term ). Once we started really looking under the bling to see how they were made we learned that a lot of them weren't made very well . We purchsed a 2019 Outdoors RV Mfg Mountain series Timber Ridge 24RKS. We purposely went as small as we could so we would be able to fit in more places. Nice video guys , thanks for sharing. JT

We want to spend our time exploring not waiting on repairs. 80 gals fresh water tank is great for boon docking which we plan on doing almost exclusively. Every RV is perfect for someone. We chose a tow behind for maneuverability. We also like that we can park it and drive into town without it. We didn't want an oven (waste of space to us), no wet bathrooms, no composting toilet, so slides, fold outs or pop outs that introduce dampness into the camper. We wanted gas/electric refrigerator, gas stove with just two burners, a full size bed, automatic awning and eventually we will get an enclosed awning room for more outdoor "bug free" space. We are remodeling wallpaper and backsplashes to brighten it up. We are also re-surfacing the counter and remodel the dinette table, cover the cushions and window tops to personalize it.

I've enjoyed watching your videos ( and others ) but there is one question that is always in the back of my mind. The nightmare breakdown. Your out in the middle of nowhere ( or on the side of the interstate ) and your rig or tow vehicle has broke down. Is there help for those kind of situations? What if the part won't be in for a month and your a thousand miles from home? Not all rv dealers will work on your rig because you didn't buy it from them. How do you get your rig to the ones that will work on it and costs to get to them? So how have folks who have experienced nightmare breakdowns and what did they do to get thru them? Costs? Tips? Their situation? Who was helpful or not helpful? Kind of a downer subject but a valid one especially for those on a tight budget.

I have enjoyed this series. Look forward to more! I started out looking for a particular RV but then we decided we didn't want to be in so much debt. We changed direction and started looking for rv's with smaller payments. Finally, I decided it would be great to pay cash and not have a payment. During this time, I received an email from one of the dealerships I had been talking to when I began my initial search who told me about a 3 year old RV with the same floor plan as that particular RV from the beginning, only nicer! As soon as we stepped into it, we knew we were home. It was in mint condition. We were able to purchase it with cash which made it that much nicer. We have told our friends that you will know it's the perfect RV when you step in and it feels like home. Three of our neighbors have purchased RV's within a few months after our purchase. So fun!

It is fun to hear what makes the perfect RV for different people. I don't know anyone else who had the same criteria as I did. It had to be the most narrow RV that still had a bathroom. That was a Casita. Hopefully I can get to the point that I can tow and drive a wider vehicle but if not, I am happy with this.

In this verdio there 'might be consistently the same answer...sort of' 😉. Two of the interviewees responses summed it up quite well to help folks in their search. One was Adventurous Way who mentioned that it was important for them to be able to use the bed, stove, refrigerator, and bath with the slides in. That is something the new shopper may not think about. Ask the dealer / seller to pull those slides in and see what you can or cannot access for those times when you will be parked in rest area, Walmart, Cabella's, or Cracker Barrel for a night. The other was Werlola RV where he made the statement that you really don't know what the ideal length of RV is until you really start using it and realize what you are going to do. And that is true. You can hopefully figure out if you prefer to stay in big RV parks where rig size wouldn't be as much of an issue or are you planning on doing a lot of stays in State and or National Parks where rig length may be limited? Once you think you know that you can at least then narrow the search by length. Thanks for another good interview series and your advice is spot on in the end: Do your research, research, research and go in as many different RVs as you can because what is the 'perfect' RV for one person may not be the perfect one for you.

Just few days ago we were in a situation where it came in super handy to be able to use the RV with slides in. We had arrived at a boondocking spot on BLM land around noon and had a particular spot in mind. Unfortunately, it was already taken, but people were outside and we briefly chatted with them and it turned out they were leaving in a few hours. So we decided to wait it out. We were able to make lunch and spend few hours in the RV while waiting on them and then moved into the perfect spot for the week. I agree it is very hard to know what size you will need ahead of time. One thing that helped us was watching many different KZbin channels and asking ourselves which of the RV lifestyles we think we might be the closest to and how that impacts the RV size considerations.

I so enjoy all your videos, this is another great one! One thing I’d love you to ask other rvers ...their good/bad experience driving and backing up these larger motor homes. What issues/ stress they encounter ...what they do to make it easier to drive through towns and pull into/backup into a overnight spot or foodstore, how to make towing a vehicle easier. We are retiring in a few months and have narrowed our choices to a used 32ft Tiffin Breeze and a 24 ft Leisure Travel Unity class B Plus motorhome. I love the Tiffin for the quality, big comfortable living room/kitchen space but the 32ft size and not really knowing how much patience/skill will be required to maneuver and travel towing our CRV causes me to hesitate. I love the Unity for its quality, functionality in such a small size with no tow vehicle needed but hesitate due to the small living space and no place for our daughter in college to sleep if she visits. Decisions Decisions. Take care and safe travels you two!
@todayissomeday
@todayissomeday 5 жыл бұрын
We had never owned an RV before, let alone a 35 ft class A. Phil just got in and started driving...slow at first and getting used to the onboard cameras in the mirrors and on the back of the RV. The cameras really help with blind spots and taking a corner....you can see where your side is in relation to the corner. We prefer a pull thru site as it is just easier with a tow vehicle, however, if we have to back in anywhere, we unload the tow vehicle and use a spotter (Stacy, with either her cell phone or walkie talkie to communicate) to help guide us in. When we go to a Walmart we always look for open spaces away from other shoppers so we can pull straight in and out when done. If you do tow your CRV, ensure iy has the right transmission to flat tow and or dolly tow...your owners manual should be able to tell you. If you go with a 5th wheel.....find an open parking lot and practice driving it. We are partial to our Tiffin......good luck on your decision.

I've watched tons of videos & love this series you are doing. The one nagging question for me is on the social side of the aisle. What "etiquette" do you use to know whether or not it's ok to tag along, caravan with new acquaintances? Love the idea of caravaning, but wouldn't know how to read "hints" that - 'yes, we'd love company' or 'no, we need alone time' or 'wow, you're kinda scary and we are fine not caravaning with you' kind of thing. Not sure how 'out there' people are - asking you to caravan along, do you wait for the invite, drop hints, ask outright??? What is the going etiquette for this side. I'm so afraid of not finding our "tribe" when we move to full time.

Thanks for this video. We will be on a very limited income when my husband retires but we are debt free. We’d like to RV debt free so $ is our number one issue. We may need to rent out our house till we decide whether RV full time or not. I’m worried we’ll buy used and inherent a lot of problems. Luckily my husband is a mechanic but I don’t want to have him constantly be fixing things which muggy be very stressful. I’m thinking a used Artic Fox fifth wheel. They are well insulated but don’t have any bells or whistles. Anyone out there that has a older AF?

Debt free is the best way to go! Many people have used rigs and love them. With regular maintenance they can last a long time.

One thing I learned from watching KZbin videos is, pay off your RV from the beginning. I'm on my first RV and we paid cash money for it. It is way nice to not have any RV payments. Thank you KZbin.

Phil do you think the maintenance bill for your RV is the same for all size diesels. When we retire we will be starting out part time maybe going to full time and wondering if we can handle the maintenance for a 30' to a 27'.
@todayissomeday
@todayissomeday 5 жыл бұрын
The maintenance bill would be different. The tires alone would be way less because you would need less of them and they would be much smaller.

great video, we chose used as we heard of all the problems everyone is having with new RV's plus we has a buget we had to keep within so we got an older RV a 97 Fleetwood Southwind 32'. We have not had it very long so we will see how it goes as we take a lot of weekend trips this summer, we both still work full time jobs but are looking forward to retiring in about 5 years.

This was kind of useless because you didn’t tell your guess to describe or tell what specific RV they have and why they chose it.
