It took me a year to sell, donate, trash, and figure out what to keep of my belongings. The transition to full time RV life is a process. I wish I would have started preparing way earlier than I did. This is a great step by step explainer for newbies! Very informative ❤

Helped a little bit? Omg wealth of information. Loved it, we have already completed two purges and wow we don’t miss any of that stuff. Even though we know we have some time in front of us still we are already in the mindset of will it fit in the rv. So till then we are doing everything we can to learn as much as we can.

This just came through my feed and right on time. I'm going full-time in June 2023 and I'm having a range of emotions...happiness, anxiety, fear of the unknown, even sadness to leave my teaching career. Working on my lists and plans. Such a helpful video.

I'm going back to the beginning of the video list and working through. I've watched several here and there, but nothing chronological. It's really great to watch how quickly the both of you warmed to the camera and became organically conversational. * Chuckle * Phil looked a bit uncomfortable on those first few videos. And then, bam! He was into it and chatty. ❤️ Great tips and encouragement, but with honesty! One of the things I enjoy the most is how authentic and relaxed you both are when addressing the audience.

Newbie, 65 and getting ready to go full time. I lost my husband in Jan. 2023 and bought a Class C, plus a E-bike and really hoping for a great experience. Your videos have helped me more than you know. Still scared but feel like there will always be help out there. My biggest fears are LP gas, running the generator properly and mapping out my net pit stop.

Your videos are a good example of why it's useful to watch various videos on the same subject. I have seen countless videos about getting started in the RV lifestyle. I have learned something from everyone of them and yours is one of the top ones I've seen. If you ever think, "There are so many videos about (whatever)", forget that thought and make the video anyway. Everyone has their own slant and original ideas. Keep 'em coming. I love it. Thank you.

I am going back through your early videos. I am planning to go fulltime on my own (very scary) in less than 3 years, sooner if I can swing it. I am a science teacher and am getting to that point that retirement is starting to call my name. My little dog and I will be on the road in the fairly near future. Your videos are wonderful! I have found myself binging videos and then realizing I am and hour past bedtime with a full day of teaching science looming in the morning. Yikes! I am window shopping RVs and hoping that the one I have my heart set on will drop in price (COVID buyers selling off in a few years) to a much better deal...with the plus of someone else working out some of the bugs of a new RV. I live in a relatively small place now but I have expanded to fill every nook so now I am looking at the purge. I have started with my closet. I have several bags of very nice clothing to donate to my local charity. The hard part will be my sewing room. I love to sew and a sewing machine will travel with me but at the moment I have 4 of them and I have to wean myself off of three of them. Thanks for all your great information. Hope to run in to you sometime in the future on the road.

Great advice....again! Thank You -- One thing that I haven't seen from all the videos that i am watching about "prepping" for full timers is make sure your teeth are in good health!!! I'm planning on leaving in May and I have a great dentist here --- As a previous world traveler, I have experienced tooth pain in remote places and it is NO fun!! So I am getting all my teeth checked and cleaned before I head out! Just saying.... ;)

We just discovered your channel yesterday and have been binge watching. We’ve decided to start at the beginning and this is the video we ended on tonight. We have taught Dave Ramsey at our church for over 10 years now. The stories we hear are amazing. Our plan is to go full time when we do we retire in three years. We have watched a lot of full-time RV years over the past couple of years, but your channel is the one we can most relate to. We love your down to earth videos and the way you relate with each other. We also like the way you talk about the practicalities of RVing. We live in Washington state and have a 29 foot travel trailer on a lake about 30 miles from our house. We spend most of our summers there, coming home just to do laundry and mow the grass! It’s well within commuting distance. We plan to start our full-timing life with that trailer and our truck. We are completely debt-free and we want to be able to put all proceeds from our house sale into savings to buy something when we do stop RVing. We’re looking forward to watching more of your videos until we catch up with your present day. Blessings, the Queen’s.

Awesome!! I agree with you completely and people should have an exit plan! I am going to include this in our next video series. We also invested our house money for the next house. I did not want to put it into a depreciating asset. Thanks for hanging out with us! So glad you are not waiting for 3 years to start RVing. If we could change one thing that would be the one. See ya out there one day!

Such great advise for anyone buying an RV...not just for full timers. The only thing I would add is to put some cash aside for all the "stuff" you need to purchase to get your RV on the road. Surge protector, black and gray water hoses, portable black tank for boondocking, water pressure regulator, fresh water hoses, "dogbones" so you can connect to 30amp or 50amp or house power, RV Garmin, etc. We estimate that stuff cost us close to $2000. Plus a few thousand more for a generator.

My hubby retires in 6 months. We've been talking about renting our house for a year and trying Full time RVing. We're debt free other than a house payment. We can rent our house with a $800 a month income and we have about $3200 from retirement .we plan to buy our truck and 5th wheel used... Cash. All our family leave west coast so planning on really spending time with kids and grandkids after 18 yrs apart. We plan to take income from rental for our emergency fund along with $3000 to start.I've begun purging inside but my husband is a saver and it may take him all summer to clean out garage and his shop. This is a mission of love as we miss our family so much. If it weren't for them we'd be happy staying on our 5 acre home with views of 4 mountain ranges. If we like the nomad life we'll sell our home. Love you videos and all your great advice!

Thanks, guys. This was great. The two of you have become my favorite FTRV YT'ers! My husband and I are in our SECOND early planning stage, and we're thinking 2 to 2-1/2 years from now. We don't have a new RV yet but we'll be looking in the next year or so. There's so much to do (a house to clear, 2 garages) and I've started it. But I also just retired and the 2 years is waiting for my (slightly younger ;D) husband to catch up. He's working FT now, so there's that income still. He has his own little side business and he does REALLY WELL with that and we'll have that when we go. But the big question is: HOW DO YOU WAIT? For us, we have a plan worked out that's working for us. Since I'm newly retired, I dedicated different days of the week to the many different tasks in front of us. This is the only way I can stay focused or else my mind goes all around everything we need to do, and that just gets everything too jumbled up to accomplish any of it. On Mondays, I go through my files and determine what I'll need to keep in pdf format, and then scan, scan, scan! Anything we decide keep that won't actually go with us - including our paper files - we'll put in a cargo trailer we purchased that we'll park at my daughter's house for the time when we're done traveling. Every Tuesday is clearing-out day. I pick a room, start in one corner and move around the room, high and low, and back to the door - throwing things away, organizing what to sell, what to donate, and what to keep when we get an RV again. My worst room (my craft room) took 3 full Tuesdays! I practically had my own little store stocked up in that room, and holiday time is always hectic - things get pulled out, used (or not), and thrown to the side.... never actually put back away. So, your comment about NOT BUYING NEW STUFF really hit home with me. That's a super-critical point! I did frequent shoptainment for most of my life, semi-professional career, plenty of money. Now? I couldn't care less! I always shop now with that question foremost in mind: Is this something I'll use in the RV? Since we full-timed once before, and we know what tiny mobile living is all about, this part is really not hard for me now. But we had our reasons for buying a house again, and so we did that. And we filled it up with NEW STUFF. So while we know what we're getting into now, it's also a problem for us, because WE KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE ALREADY, and it IS freeing! It's hard because we're just really eager to get going again NOW, and we have to wait. Ugh. Every Wednesday is dedicated to researching different manufacturers and models of RVs, and associated things (domiciling, mail services, expenses, etc.). That's also when I watch your videos! :) A lot to consider. We have a very loose time frame we're working in. We know roughly when we want to do this or that, marching right up to our 2-years-from-now departure. I would say to anyone planning to full-time to not be hasty - don't get into something you're really unprepared for, and you don't know what you don't know! - but don't plan too far out either. Give yourself sufficient time to take care of everything you don't even realize you need to take care of, until you do. Thanks again, Phil and Stacy, for making great videos! They're fun, you're both very engaging as well as educated and informative, and I hope to meet up one day. Happy Trails! (Sorry this got so long!)

We just watched this video, we have sold our home here in Alberta, Canada, looking to trade in travel trailer for motorhome. You always give such great advice! Thinking we are on the right track, now we just have to get over the border (Sept 2021)! We are looking to get a transport company to take our rig over the border & we'll fly in to US to meet up!! Keep up the awesome info, safe travels!! Deb & Wayne

Good advice all around here. I agree totally on the debt-free advice. Some other channels tell you to not to wait. For many of us, full-timing (or part-timing) means less income. IMO, you want to enjoy the journey and the lifestyle and not have to worry about finances as much. Secondly, on purging - it does take a LOT longer than you think it will. It takes 3-4+ purge sessions on each room minimum to do a good job.
@todayissomeday
@todayissomeday 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly!! You can't enjoy this lifestyle without some financial freedom!! It is so much better to be prepared ahead of time. Those that just jump regret it a lot. I also agree with your purging time line. I talk about in our purging video. We purged over almost 2 years before moving it. I went closet by closet and room by room repeating the process over and over. It does get easier the more you do it.

I won't be able to do 'shakedowns.' In order to get my rig, it will take selling the house to afford it, then, I'll have to rent back from the buyers for a month or two until I can get the rig in place. (I don't want to finance it and have that debt on the road. I'll be losing a mortgage payment--don't want to trade it for another!) ;-) At that point, I'll be full-on full time from the get-go. You offer a lot of good tips, and I've already begun the purging process. Budget? I never have one specifically written out; I'm just naturally very good at managing my money; a skill I've learned from never having been rich at any time in my life. ;)

I am recently divorced after 20 years and got the house in the settlement. After I get the house in my name, I will hang onto it for 6 months then sell it and buy my RV. I will have $1475 a month i social security. I took it early so I could go RVing. I know I'm a little old to get started in this but I have only been out of the Houston area 3 times in 20 years and want to see some of the country. I have family in Colorado and Missouri and thought it would be nice to just travel on a budget. I will be paying cash for my RV from the money I make off the house so my expenses will be minimal. I'm only buying a small trailer to live out of until I am able to save enough money for something bigger or to see if the smaller one suits me better. I have gotten a lot of great information from watching your videos so thanks for doing them! Maybe I'll see you guys on the road sometime.

Our goal is before the first Western PA snow... but we have to sell our house before we make the transition. We have two garage sales scheduled to try to move some of our possessions (so hard to purge stuff that is still in such great condition) and we have a small storage unit that we will put our antique furniture and some momentos we couldn't part with. We have a 5th wheel on order, so now it is just timing. So excited and so ready for all that this lifestyle offers - the good, bad, and amazing!

Hi guys, my husband is a military retired and also an RVer, not full time yet, but we just placed the house for sale. I have a recommendation get a flat tow vehicle the best are Jeep Wrangler, (that's what we use) and a Mini Cooper (that's what we use too). But me I prefer the Jeep Wrangler, because of the 4 x 4. Why we know, because we had transport RVs from Indiana to Customers and RV Dealers. Good purchase that's one of our prefer one and also the Forza Winnebago 34T. So hope to have the pleasure to meet you, military families are getting involved in the RV full time. Bye

Do you still see and read comments from old videos? I've begun purging, but just barely. We've lived here for 30 years, same size house as yours was. So Much Stuff, that I still love. and probably because I like the things I'd like to get some money for giving it up. And a lot of the things are still quite nice. Did you do garage sales? Were they worth the time and effort? I don't want my clothing to end up on a boat to Africa and now even Africa may not want our old clothes. And I don't want it in the dump either. I'd love ideas for the actual purging please. And Thank You!

We try to reply to all comments in a timely manner. We did do garage sales, that's where 95% of our stuff sold. The rest we donated to charities. We started room by room and the purge went rather smooth that way.
