John Mills stars as Albert, a pottery worker forced into retirement after 50 years in the same job. With no hobbies or outside interests, his saintlike wife Ethel (Megs Jenkin) has to put up with him constantly underfoot.
This episode: "Come Back, All is Forgiven" - Albert is still trying to find something useful to do with his new-found days of leisure, but tries to resist Ethel's persuasion that he joins the local over-60s club...

My neighbours are in their late nineties and still independently on their own. Everyday I see them holding hands and going for a walk.

I wish life was still like this, when they had places for the over 60s could go, the church doesn't seem to run any clubs anymore, or neighbours were friendly to the elderly

as someone who retired a few years ago I can commiserate with the frustrations of retirement after having spent fifty years working.

Bit sad seeing such a fine, talented and well respected actor being reduced to working in a show like this.

Not sad at all, I would imagine he did out of choice. Its a very pleasant sit com & Megs Jenkins was in Tiger Bay with him & Hayley Mills. It is a pleasure to see an actor of his calibre in anything.

Professional actors with long careers generally feel lucky to be working - and happier when they're working, too.

Late in life he moved from his large property into a bungalow. Apparently his Wealth was spent on his ailing wife of many years. While he earned a great deal of money over the years his estate upon death was modest. Taking care of his wife was his greatest concern. I don't think he took this acting job because he loved acting, but rather because he loved his wife and did whatever he could to care for her needs.
