Or if I was lucky enough, a ride offered by someone from church. Which was very rare. Very rare. Try buying groceries with food stamps, a suitcase and five artificial body parts, taking the bus. I never broke the law. Never got arrested. People in jail are there for a reason. And in part, some rights should be on hold until they are released. If they are released.
