What I love is that for some reason they feel that they need to come up with something "sciency" to try and explain their position and then when you point out the massive issues with their explanation they have to default back to "well, but magic man done it". If the magic man done it, then there's no need for sciencey-sounding nonsense - it's either the magic man or it's science, they are mutually exclusive.

Exactly correct. However, when they explain it to someone else to try and get them to join their gang, they are likely to point and laugh at them, so a veneer of science can help cloak the bullshit.

The Bible states 'In the begining'. Scientists have changed the begining many times and now it looks like the Bible is correct. The Big Bang under naturalism is magic. Once I had a back and forth with a creationist on KZbin, and the argument that stomped him was the following: If the rock record got all deposited during one massive flood event, why are fossils arranged in order? why don't you find rabbit and dinosaur fossils on the same Flood deposit? what causes organisms of different sizes to sort themselves out in such a non-random way?

I now want to see a Creationist Ancient Aliens show where the original earth was on Alpha Centauri, but the flood shot Noah to this earth Jules Verne style, and god’s promise to never flood the earth again was because it was a new earth. It always astonishes me that people who believe in miracles try to explain them as being scientific. THAT'S NOT WHAT A MIRACLE IS!! If you want to believe in magic then commit to believing in magic. I think what it boils down to is people who (like me) can't believe that magic is an explanation of anything who (again like me) don't want to die and wish/hope that they can survive their body's death and live forever in a paradise can't accept (unlike me) that maybe they just won't exist forever and at some point no one will even know they existed. I too find the thought of this daunting and unpleasant and I can understand why one would want to convince one's self that one will never actually die but if we're looking for evidence and trying to find what's true, that's a completely different pursuit than trying to comfort ourselves and if you need a miracle to comfort yourself then accept that it has to actually be a miracle which by definition can't be proven by science and can be true in spite of any contradictory science so you have no reason to tell scientists and believers in science in general that real science is wrong and that magic is actually scientific. You only want to tell us that because YOU want the miracle to be true but science is easier to believe in because it is demonstrable and falsifiable and, even if miracles exist, they are indistinguishable from lies. You can't invoke science to explain a miracle, if it depends on science or can be proven by science then it's not a miracle.
@RichWoods23

They're desperate to claim that there's evidence for their belief because they don't have the actual conviction their faith position requires and they can't stand seeing the conviction they do have being dismissed so readily.

I like the ideas of granite plates fluttering, as if they were the delicate wings of a moth. I actually own a couple of copies of Walt Brown's In The Beginning and it is suspiciously light on calculations, though WB does deign to show some of his work. What I will say is that the sections on biology and paleontology are atrocious. He credulously repeats the easily disproved calumnies of Fred Hoyle and Chandra Wickramasinghe in the 1980s, when they tried to claim that the London fossil of Archaeopteryx was a fake. Later in the chapter, he provides a single source that claims dinosaurs can be found alive today - an article from the renowned scientific journal Pravda. He claims that wooly mammoths were flash frozen with warm weather flowers in their mouths, but fails to mention that those flowers are the hardy buttercup, which is hardy and is commonly found in tundra and mountainous regions. Flowering plants like this, along with wild poppies and anemones, (flowering ground cover that is rather pleasingly called Forbs, apparently) were an important part of the diet of the Siberian Mammoth. These three examples are off the top of my head, as it's been a while since I last took a look. There are many others. I also remember him spending half a page on that Was It A Plesiosaur? body recovered by Japanese fishermen, only to agree with the mainstream opinion that no, it was just a basking shark. Beats me why he thought to include at all then. Anyway, Walt Brown is a highly dishonest creationist writer in my view, at least when he is writing outside of his field. He also appears to have a thin skin, because he refuses to publish his work in creationist journals which, if his model is as robust and comprehensive as he dictates, should be a slam dunk. But for some reason he refuses all invitations and sticks to trying to convert starry eyed fundamentalists with shiny, glossy pages and impressive (if largely irrelevant) credentials. So sciency!

I find your attempt to educate creationists to be a laudable goal. Debunking pseudoscience is something of a hobby of mine as well (I often explain to those who cite the prevalence of flood myths from separate non-contact ancient cultures as being nothing more than the product of said ancient cultures being located near coastal areas prone to non-concurrent flooding events, separated by hundreds or even thousands of years, which resulted from rising sea levels at the end of the last glaciation period). However, if there is one thing I've learned, it's this: With most of these people, there is simply no debating with them, or communicating science to them. They believe in these pseudoscientific, theistic answers to complex questions because they are too simpleminded, too uneducated, and too ignorant to understand actual empirical science. As well, one has only to look at school systems around America to see that this ignorance is unlikely to end any time soon, as many states are on the verge of making it a crime to teach valid science, opting instead to fill their children's heads with this creationist drivel.

And in the process created asteroids, planets, nebula, galaxies, galactic clusters, black holes, etc. The sun and moon didn't move nearly so far BUT theirs was a pretty amazing journey and resizing. From inside the dome to a quarter million miles away for the moon and from something about the size of a 50 cent piece to a body several thousand miles across. And the sun moved from inside the dome to 8.3 light seconds away and grew from a ball about the size of a silver dollar to something big enough to swallow all the planets in the solar system with plenty of room left over.

A plate that has to travel to the other side of the earth has to do 12,500 miles maximum and has the "flood year" to do it in. That's only about 1.5 miles per hour (3 kph). It's still terrifyingly fast for earth's plates but not really "race car speed". What am I missing?
@matthewgagnon9426

It's race car speed compared to how slow they move currently. Imagine if the tectonic plates were moving that fast right now, it'd be terrifying if you weren't completely fucking dead from everything collapsing and the massive amount of heat release and quaking it'd cause. Under normal circumstances they move some number of millimeters a year, moving 1.5 miles per hour is so many orders of magnitude faster.

In a reasonable individual, sure. But most people aren't reasonable. The ones who don't buy into YEC do so out of really just convenience, rather than any reasonableness. They're too lazy to jump through all those mental hoops. But they also don't give a flying rat turd whether or not, or why, YEC is wrong, either. The ones who do buy into YEC, aren't stupid...they're deranged. Mentally ill. Cognitively disabled. They can't be "educated" out of it...ever. The ones who seem like they can be, are ones who never really believed it, but just never really argued with it because they were raised for it. Then there are the grifters who use YEC really just to fleece all the deranged people into indoctrinating their kids, for the sole purpose of taking all their money and living like kings themselves for absolutely zero work. They don't believe in YEC at all, and they don't really care what the actual truth is. But arguments against YEC endanger their lifestyle, and that can't be permitted from their perspective. An unsolveable problem especially since YEC's (mostly) restrict themselves to only classical physics. They could solve this problem by saying well the days in the bible aren't really "days" it was relativistic time dilation! OF course though YEC's reject that. *Why because they think it leads to "moral relativism"* . If anyone sees this and wonders what I go on about here it is. In Relativity you can have one frame of reference and I another frame of reference. For me in my frame time moves at one second persecond. Same for you in yours. However, _depending on our relative state of motion or the presence of gravitational fields (easy things for a God to conjure up), if I observe your frame of reference things happening to you may appear to be much slower or faster, and vice versa_ . Classic example is traveling at near C to the nearest star and back. Less than a year passes for the travelers while 8 years passes for us on Earth. IF they accepted more science they could cook up a way to imagine the bible is true from a certain point of view. Strangely that idea scares them.

@The Epsilon Blue Monad "Science" is our understanding as it is right now. It changes constantly. I think the current answer to "What caused the Big Bang?" is "I don't know." There isn't assertion of the cause. Gödel proved that there are mathematical statements that cannot be proved or disproved. The Halting Problem asks if a computer program will stop. This is a purely mathematical question. We know that this problem is undecidable. Look up the Busy Beaver game for a smaller version of that question. We can't even say that some *very* simple programs halt. They way I look at it, science doesn't promise you anything. It just tells you what our best understanding is. Math says there are some questions that can't be answered.

@The Epsilon Blue Monad please, don't cut and paste something out of a book. Science is based on things that can be measured. If you want to talk about things that can't be detected, look somewhere else. What do you think about Gödel's incompleteness theorems? They seem to contradict some of what you said.

@@peterbonucci9661 A reading of genesis not only sounds like magic but is not really contradicted by standard cosmology. IF one believes in a God then God would communicate with man (or any other lesser intelligence) in a way that intelligence was able to understand. Hence a lot of simplification, and artistic license. "let there be light" might as well be a "big bang". YEC's seem to need "the deep" to be litteral actual water, the firmament to be a dome over them etc etc. Most of them limit all powerful invincible God based on their small minded 9th grade understanding of science and math.

Although it's difficult to wrap my ignorant little noggin around a lot of the technical specifications and jargon, I feel you did very well to elaborate your points in a way that even a layman such as myself could (maybe not use in my own arguments, but at least) comprehend. This is the first video I've seen of yours, but as I delve deeper into your library, I'm hopeful (if not certain) to further broaden and solidify my understanding of your research and ideas. Thank you for sharing your obvious years of education and experience for free to the public. I wish more channels and websites claiming to educate, in fact, did so... The whole "this is what we can 'prove' and the rest... GOD" rhetoric is such an archaic copout. The religious ruling bodies are losing control at an exponential rate, and grasping now at straws, they've begun putting more and more of these (as you brilliantly put it) "evangelicals in lab coats" on social media and streaming platforms, refusing to relinquish the meager shred of dominance they continue to hold over the truly naive.. Again, I greatly appreciate your time and effort, and though I am regrettably unable to support you monetarily, I will surely share your channel in hopes that it reaches those who can. ✌️

Awesome content! I grew up in Texas with a conservative fundamentalist Christian family, and my mom is a die hard young Earth creationist. I even read books about creation science that they kept in our little library and thought they made for fantastical little sci-fi stories. I ended up breaking out of YEC beliefs in my 20s after actually studying evolutionary data and how radioactive decay works, but the linchpin for me was actually that young earth creationism was basically invented/popularized in the 60's/70's as part of a response to desegregation, believe it or not. Knowing that most Christians believed the science of evolution and even used it to justify their interpretation of the Bible in exactly the same dodgy ways that YEC-ers do today, as well as discovering that every YEC model requires miracles, led me to believe that if God put all this evidence in the Earth for evolution and an old age, then for YEC to work he is either a liar or incompetent.
