At this time of year (and especially this year), entanglements are a very common call-out here at Wildlife Aid. Whilst we see a broad range of species needing help, young foxes are by far the most common victims we have to set free!
In this rescue, Lawrie was called out to help a young fox that had become tangled in a school football net. Having fought to escape, the poor fox was very tangled and needed a short stay in our hospital before it could head back to the wild!

SHE'S FLOATING!!!! Lawrie is always an absolute delight to watch! I really hope he can stay with us for a long time. He has a charm and a presence in front of the camera that I've only seen rivaled by Simon himself! Poor foxie, she looked like she had given up by the time Lawrie got her. Such a contrast to her release!! Also, gotta love how the equivalent of being a sneaky teenager in this channel means "lets go rescue an animal without telling Simon", lmao. Gotta love it!

Foxy seemed quite happy to see the rescuer. As if he/she knew release and care were incoming. I'm not sure that animals 'talk' and 'communicate' as we do, but you'd almost think word gets around about the WA team. "Oh, those guys. Yeah, they'll get you loose, give you good meds, and good food, then let you go right at your doorstep. So just a 'token' struggle so they don't figure out we get stuck just for a free meal and a checkup, and you're golden."

@islandercirce2

@@colleen31 I believe that you have misunderstood the idea of over anthropomorphise in littleman787's comment. Anthropomorphise means to attribute human thinking and feelings to an animal or even an inanimate object. Rescue and treatment of an animal has nothing to do with anthropomorphising.

I agree. Humans have a bad reputation with animals, because they attack and hurt for no good reason. That's why they run for their lives when they see a Human. Its satisfying that at least -some- of them can view Humans as "not all bad".

Maybe I should go into business, making football nets that have little motors, that charge up with sunlight during the day and detects when night has fallen, automatically pulling up the net, from the bottom, to about halfway... Because people NEVER learn. 😑 So glad the little fox was alright. It's always worrisome, when the animal is so out of it, that they hardly have the strength to struggle, although it does make the rescue a bit easier. Well done! 🦊

The schools need to be taught and comply with rolling up the netting, just as residential houses etc. If animals keep being 'caught' then they need to be fined for negligence and causing undue suffering and pay any medical expences.

It's also lethal to birds of prey as well. Once they get tangled, many break their wings, which is tragic for any bird. Should be law in all areas, that nets must be rolled up and put away after use.

aww well done team xx looked quite a healthy fox too!! Advice to anyone in charge of football grounds would be to tell them to roll the goal netting up a few feet off the ground so animals like that fox don't get caught up in them again!!

Foxes are unique in the Canine world. they are the only ‘dog’ with retractable claws, exactly as cats, and the only canine with vertical eye Iris’s, exactly as cats also. (they may be the missing link between dogs and cats.) mum had a lovely pet fox as a child during the great depression, and would follow her from home to school, and wait for her and follow her home.

They should make it school policy to put those up. Poor guy.

all they have to do is tie the nets up when theyre not being used we always had to do this w/ our hockey nets at school they just had 3 strips of fabric around the bottom and after the game was finished you tied the net up to the top of the frame and its completely outve reach of foxes and badgers and hegehogs and things
