My father was on the Special Effects crew on this classic. He was in the industry for almost 30 years before passing way too young at 61. I remember as a teenager Dad coming home and telling Mom and me about the scenes shot that day. He laughed so hard that he could barely finish the story of what took place that day, He's been gone 42 years, and those dinner time reflections are some of the best memories of my Dad. I have the 25th Anniversary DVD, and in the additional chapters are stills of my Dad on set w/ Gene, Peter, Marty and Mel. I was in the industry for 42 yrs, and met Terry shortly after I'd purchased the DVD of the film. I introduced myself to her as the son of my my father, and she said she remembered him. She is as gracious, talented and beautiful as you see on screen. I also had the fortune to work with Cloris, and see her away from set( we often dined at a restaurant near us both). What a lady! I just want to say thank you for this video, and making me cry in happy remembrance. In gratitude ....
This movie worked so well because people like your father worked so hard to make it look BEAUTIFUL, which only made the silliness work even better. Bless his soul, because he made a movie that - had it not been "merely" a comedy - would get the respect that it TRULY deserves, regardless of genre. Many thanks for sharing your story, Robby. Best wishes...

@@bartcolen Thank you bartcolen for your kind words. I'm just so happy that on the anniversary DVD edition, besides enjoying the timeless comedy, I can see my dad. He also did SFX on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants, and the first 8 yrs of M.A.S.H. (60's and 70's TV). The first four shows were often my summer playground as an 8-10 year old, sitting at the helm of the Seaview and the Jupiter 2, and picking up boulders bigger than I was on Land of the Giants. Great memories. 🙏

We still laugh about that day together! Greatest comedy I ever saw! I’m a movie buff … love excellent movies. The first movie that I remember watching was “The Little Tramp” when I was about 3 years old (of course it was a rerun in the late 50’s or early 60’s in a theatre.) So sad. I remember Daddy being so upset at the movie for making me cry! And then watching “The Wizard of Oz” at home on our very own black and white TV he wanted to turn off the movie for frightening me! I’ve always loved good movies! Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder are tops with me! So many great movies! The old ones are the best to me!

The Wizard of Oz scared me too as a kid. Her family closes the trap door and can't hear Dorothy banging on it trying to get in out of the hurricane! Dorothy's dog is taken from her by that awful old lady and her family can't stop it. The colors are too loud and the music is frantic. And those monkey-bats are over the top! I could finally sit through it as an adult. My first movie was Bambi, which was showing in the theatres. My dad took me and we sat through it twice. Later, Bambi was shown in the theatres again when my son (now 43) was 5, and we sat through it twice too. Movies have been important in my life, and I thank my father for introducing me to them and sitting through Bambi twice with me. He had been a prisoner of war in WWII, and we saw Bridge on the River Kwai together too. What I love about this comedy version of Frankenstein is how true they remain to the original aspects of the story and characters.

The song Madelyn Kahn sang and the way she did it was hilarious, " I'm so tired",. I watched an old I think it was Marlene Dietrich and it was a war time drama and not supposed to be funny but I burst out laughing because Madelyn Kahn sounded just like Marlene Dietrich and Marlene was being serious she too was a cabaret singer/ prostitute. Madelyn Kahn was spot on and nobody realizes this because no one has ever seen or heard Marlene Dietrich sing. I just happened to catch a really old movie on some obscure channel. So now when I see that scene I laugh even harder.

She was terrific in Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and an appearance on Saturday Night Live. I understand her life eventually took a hard turn downward, but I've always found it hard to believe that she didn't become an absolute comedy icon whose name would be forever on people's lips. She REALLY was good! She had enough talent to work forever.

@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 She had family demons to fight, i.e. her mother. Her mother never was in her corner because SHE thought she was the star of the family. She was also brilliant when she was a guest star on "The Carol Burnett Show." She played in a "Family" Skit as Mavis, the star of "Cat Women on Mars." It was a scream!

She was magical beyond description. It takes great talent to sing out of pitch the way she did as Lily Von Shtupp (My favorite character in Blazing Saddles). Everything she did, she just made it memorable. And, for me, it wasn't just the big things she did, even though they were so good. It was the little things she did that made scenes so much funnier than if she didn't do them. Fuck cancer. That's all I have to say about that.

My best memory of this film is that I saw it in the picture theater with my dad when I was 8 years old. For some reason it is the only movie I actually remember going to the movies with him, even though I know there were others. I’m 55 now, my dad long gone, and for some reason I remember that outing very well.

John Morris’s score was the perfect icing on this perfect cake of a film, as responsible as any other element for the success and longevity of Young Frankenstein. So deeply luxurious and evocative, it brought everything together and paired perfectly with the gorgeous B&W cinematography. That opening shot of the castle with the theme behind it is truly beautiful. Morris was the best film composer for comedies, I think, he played it straight but with a light touch. One of the all-time greats.

One of the best movies, if not the best, in my opinion, a true masterpiece. Everything said and shown in this video is spot on, everything was perfectly matched and timed in such a way that even after almost 50 years it's never old and still as funny as it can be. I can't count how many times I have seen it and I can truly state that I know it by heart; from the first time I saw it in a theater, later on in VHS and then in DVD I still can't get enough and once in a while I have to watch it to feel better and go through the day with a smile.

It never gets old to me, this is a movie that has stood the tests of time, its like a fine bottle of wine it tastes better the older it gets. With young Frankenstein The old this movie gets the funny it is. This is a classic film, that's in a class of it's own. Sure their are other comedy movies that are funny, but not like young Frankenstein, it's the best. One of the most unforgettable movie going experiences was seeing Younger Frankenstein in 1974. I was 10 years old and a devoted fan of everything horror related, whether film, fiction, or television, I couldn't get enough. Being familiar with the old Universal studios horror films I was immediately in tune with the film and it's loving send up of all those elements. I saw it twice in a single day, granted the second was an unpaid viewing as I slipped down in my seat to remain unseen. Over the decades I've lost count the number of times I have watched the film. It doesn't provoke the same response but it does make me flashback to that wonderful.Sunday afternoon. Trying to think of a single favourite scene is tough when there is not a bad one to be found. It might be hyperbolic to call the film perfect, but it's not I don't know what is? Forty-seven years later and it not lost its charm and magic. I envy anyone who is watching this for the first time, especially at the age when I saw it. I think that it can seen children over 12. There are a few double entendres to be found but hardly anything obscene. They may ask an shwantzstööker is. 😉😉
