The days when he played with freedom before it was coached out of him. What a player

It's a fair view but he wouldn't win anything playing like that top level CL or Prem. Sad but the reality
@rmanS2C11 ай бұрын
He was enjoyable to watch but his technique and skill was over hyped because he was English. If he was from any Latin American or European country he’d be run of the mill

Viera shook his hand at half time when Joe played centre mid for West Ham and bossed it . Mourinhio stuck him at wide and made him run up and down the flanks . What a waste

Joe Cole could have been the best player in the world I am amazed Alex Ferguson never bought him and he was wasted at England hew should have played behind the front 2 an attacking midfielder he is the most underrated player
@SonnyK2489 ай бұрын
Fergie tried to sign him when he was eleven years old and then bid 10 million for him when he was 16 which at the time was insane money for anyone, never mind a kid who had never played a first team game. When Cole was a teenager he was about as hyped as any England player has ever been.

Shocking watching this. I rember him at Chelsea but he didn't have the blistering pace to be a winger, as a CAM he is unlocking defences here. What England needed at tournaments, not guys hammering it into bodies from outside the box. Was so predictable. Should have gone to a top Spanish side or Italian side. Thankfully players like this today are utilised. I think Jude Bellingham is somewhat similar though he is taller and more powerful. Joe Cole reminds me a bit of Iniesta but he was better at short passing. Cole kind of seems unique, especially for English talent at the time. Amazing dribbling and skills.

Joe Cole is a version of Hazard with less powerful, but what player !

Remember the goal he scored for England against Sweden chest knee and bang with the right foot over the goalie

He received no protection at West Ham. Repeatedly hacked, chopped at, kicked, tripped - often in the box - but because he was tricky the refs seemed to feel he somehow deserved it. 10 or so years later the game had evolved, but Coles legs had been sapped by a decade of playing out of position, running up blind alleys for Chelsea. His skills never matured. The boyish excitement of an 18 year old mugging off Keane needed to become much more and I don't think he ever really found a team to support him to achieve his best. He'd have done well to go to Italy or Spain, learn from players who specialise in retaining the ball.

Liverpool move didn’t do him a favour, he was my favourite player to watch
@koncorde2 жыл бұрын
@@akuujk6340 Yeah he was never going to gel with Gerrard by that point in his career. Arsenal might have been a reasonable fit, and a logical progression when he left us. I think Arsene would have helped him develop - as would playing alongside Fabregas. Could have become a more Pires type player.
@akuujk63402 жыл бұрын
@@koncorde you did read my mind I always thought Arsenal was good fit for him, I think he was to loyal so didn’t want go across London I guess
@koncorde2 жыл бұрын
@@akuujk6340 I think with Arsenal in '03/04 they were the Invincibles and had just signed (for free) Fabregas and a big signing of Reyes, and later added Van Persie for a few million as well - so he came available at just the wrong time. Chelsea had money to burn and just wanted to stop him going anywhere else. When he left Chelsea, I was amazed he didn't re-sign for us. And considering the shite we bought that season only to get relegated anyway - we threw away millions. I'm guessing he didn't like Avram Grant, or vice versa.

It's a shame Chelsea completely changed his style of play. Would've been better going to United or Arsenal. Sir Alex or Wenger would've embraced his talent instead of turning him into a standard winger who just looks to cross the ball for a Drogba.
