@@vullord666 in practice , as we see them in those episodes....I agree , it changes nothing. But for off-screen stuffs , it actually changes. That is because there are multiple city-states underwater , some of them descendended of the original Atlantis. So Aquaman is now only King of the City-State Atlantis , while Mera is the High-Queen that rules over the Federation of Atlantean City-States.

I was actually really surprised we even got YJ season four with the changes since WB was sold off by AT&T and spun into discovery. So much (mostly animated content) got canceled. YJ was seemingly canned at end of season 4, so I suspect season 4 was already ordered and finished or mostly finished production. That's all to say, I wouldn't complain about a small animation error when it's very possible we could have gotten a finished season 4 axed as a "tax write off" (which isn't even how taxes work but they still did and said that).

Aquamam is still High King of Atlantis. But he is also a Justice League member. In this crucial time of need, Arthur felt like he needed to help more, but he can't do both of fighting evil and ruling Atlantis at the same time. Therefore he decree to have her wife Meera be High Queen to look after Atlantis while Arthur assist the League. I guess you can think of it as doing both. While Arthur is still King of Atlantis, he does it by being a hero. A bridge of the surface and the sea. As he resumes his role as Aquaman, Meera will look after things in Atlantis while his husband does his own royal duties as their champion.

wasn't the original point of Arthur being the king because he was half atlantian and half land dweller? like, he was a bridge between both worlds because of his origin, so mera becoming king would have defeated that purpose. the justification for mera becoming king is that she was born and raised royalty, so she should be king instead of arthur who was born a commoner in a lighthouse. they shoved in this legend stuff to make her more relevant and cool at the expense of arthur's role, that's kinda lame.

i think its more like at the time atlantis needed a ruler like arthur who bridged the gap between the high seas and the surface world. once that was done and atlantis effectively becoming a part of the global community his main purpose was complete and we can see through the show arthur was probably done with being king and just wants to be a dad. he also probably recognized that what atlantis needs right now is a ruler who was raised there to unite the separated city states than an outsider
