I like to add Roy Harper being immediately sent into the battlefield is also a bit messed up. The guy is frozen for 8 years and is allowed to go back on the battlefield without any sort of therapy. And they immediately called him out for it, with Nightwing kicking him off the team, which is a dick move considering Nightwing also put the team at risk with the Aqualad deception...

The neck snapping moment was lowkey one of my favorite scenes. I don’t even believe Savage turned his emotions off during that scene. It was like he was saying “I’m sorry but rules are rules. I have to agree we all seen savage kill with out carrying but in this scene not only does he look away. He even holds her and hugs her instead of tossing her to the ground. All of savage children are warriors and rather let her mind slip he ended her while she was reliving the memories that gave her the most joy. Telling the stories of her father vandal savage.

I actually basically “predicted” that that would happen. Like, I was watching the episode and he grabbed her head and I made a joke saying “Oh, what are you gonna do? Snap her neck?” And nOT EVEN FIVE SECONDS LATER HE SNAPS HER NECK LIKE I WAS KIDDING I DIDN’T EXPECT HIM TO ACTUALLY DO IT! 1:35 not really, Savage has been alive for thousands of years and has had to watch countless family members grow old and die, it's happened so often he's essentially numb to it, which frankly makes sense. The ease he does it with is also likely done so she can maintain some semblance of dignity, Olympia was likely at one point a powerful warrior and intelligent individual, so to leave her as a mumbling invalid who can't even remember her own name would probably be worse than simply killing her as painlessly as possible.

I feel like Number 2.) "Meta-Human Trafficking" is the most darkest moment of all in the Young Justice series. Just imagine, innocent children taken from their families and friend. The mental and physical, pain, suffering, and despair they felt as those diabolical experiments were performed on them for months, or even years. And those who actually survive this process, have their hope of living a normal life taken away as the possibility of them being physically disfigured from the experiments or their own powers, and their put under mind control to be slaves of messed up people who want them to do evil and monstrous acts. And those who fight these "monsters" don't even know these creatures are actually tortured and enslaved children, forced to do unspeakable crimes due to the inhuman experiments they were put in.

(thank God), Stephanie Brown was injured severely but survived and recovered, Damian Wayne still hasn't been in something like the rest, Carrie Kelly (Dark Knight Returns continuity), then came the new 52 reboot making some of them never robins, Jarro the Starro in a Jar is an alien, "Star Conqueror" who was grown and adopted by Batman. The Joker shoots her, paralyzing her and ending her career as Batgirl BUT Barbara Gordon's return to the role of Batgirl, involving her regaining mobility to her legs, after being paralyzed in " The Killing Joke ". She has just recently regained the use of her legs. Terry McGinnis is Bruce Wayne's successor as Batman, still hasn't been in something like the rest. And that summarizes whats happened to all the Robins or sidekicks or children of Batman. I'm glad no one yet fully died.

So the Miss Martian thing while wrong there was one thing you glossed over. On her home planet being a white martian was basically the same as being a rapist, murderer, etc. It was the worst of the worst. And while on Earth obviously it wouldn't be considered that bad she doesn't know that and so she does anything to stop others from finding out. In season 1 while still terrible it's not the same as her being seen without makeup on. It's something that costed her a good life on Mars. For season 2 it's completely unjustified but season 1 there are reasons behind it.

Also, I’m curious to know how the writers think the heroes would have acted if Oceanmaster wasn’t stopped. Which characters would lash out, which ones would try to hold some semblance of decency, and which ones would fall to the dark side completely. Would Batman use guns? Would he become the new therapist? How would the Team react? The Harper group?

While it was dark when considering what it did to a team do just children it is also dark for the implications it was showing us about the powers of Meghan’s telepathy. Sure we know now what extent she can or possible do with her powers but in the beginning and pretty much throughout season one, we really only saw tame powers. Then Failsafe aired and those of us who really were into the show (I mean by developing theories or noting things as they watched) asked questions following the explanation we were give about the exercise. If Meghan, at essentially her weakest power level during the entire show, could do this without control; where it took Martian Manhunter to break the loop (with some difficulty I may add), then to what extent, if any, is the limitation to her powers or better yet the danger her powers of telepathy pose to everyone around her. This is what we saw when she wasn’t in control, how may have it been if she was in control and instead using this as an attack. Again the later seasons we can pretty much tell or guess given what she does to Simon and Calderon, but for the first season we really could only try to theorize what she may be able to do. Both of which were deliberate. It makes you truly question which would be worse, her without control where we see another instance such as Failsafe (but far worse) or with control where we see a battle such as against Simon or Calder but with far mor irreparable damage potentially even killing her opponents with just a single thought. I think about how in the movie Logan Professor X had a seizure which affected everyone within a certain radius of his person. Every human around was frozen in place and even Logan who was a mutant (albeit aged and weaker than his prime) struggled to move forward and stop the seizure. I could imagine a similar thing happening with Meghan if she somehow lost control and propagated her telepathy out and trapping everyone within her vicinity possibly forever.

Savage is the first meta human since he was irradiated by the meteor. Being a dictator through most eras in history his gene got passed down all the time. That’s why there are meta humans in the first place. His immortality is just his specific meta power. His meta gene gets passed down all the time but since it doesn’t awaken in the same way everytime they don’t get immortality like he does. The meta gene is basically ultra fast evolution and since it’s usually unlocked through physical trauma, immortality is really difficult to gain. You can survive drowning or harden your skin but there’s not really a physical trauma that can force your body to gain immortality.

I'd say all of the moments are pretty dark, though I feel like the 16th episode of season 1 ("Failsafe") DEFINITELY deserved a spot in this list. In said episode the team was supposed to do some kind of mental training but everything goes wrong and they end up getting stuck in this apocalyptic fantasy in which they get killed off one by one. This episode was definitely very dark, especially if we consider that it was in season 1, and I feel like we should all consider the fact that the episode right after that was literally dedicated to the children going to LITERAL THERAPY because of it

It definitely was one of the first dark moments of the show considering it showed us to a certain extent how dangerous Meghan’s powers could be when she loses control. And that’s considering that her powers did that when she was at her weakest power level in the show. If that’s what it can be like at that level of power (with it certainly to increase as she grows in strength) when she isn’t in control then how dangerous can she be when she is in “control.” Of course we all know how it is now, but back then when the show was brand new and that episode aired people who we’re really into Young Justice and in particular were fans of Miss Martian would’ve arguably wondered to what extent of any was the limit of her powers and how dangerous she truly was with and without control. The episode was also dark since it really forces the team of basically children to view the world in a different light. They watched heroes they idolized die, mentors get vaporized in front of their eyes, and their friends/teammates suffer the same fate. It had a profound effect on their psyche which I’ll bet they as characters would remember forever (if we’re to apply this with real life). Returning back to Miss Martian. It’s like looking at Professor X in the movie Logan where we see what occurs when X begins to lose control of his powers due to his disease and age. His seizure alone froze everyone who was not a mutant and even Logan (albeit himself aged and slowly dying) as a mutant struggled to get to Charles in order to stop the seizure. I really wanna see Jason confront the Batfamily and be angry with Bruce and Dick (he was jealous of not being good enough like Dick, and being replaced by Tim) because that will be DRAMA. Vandal killing his daughter is merciful. Roy Harper need helps with him being trapped in a coma forcefully for 8 years. Meta human trafficking is awful but can be stopped. Ocean Master did it because he has no other choice and he has nothing left to lose. FAILSAFE is dark due to the fact that their sacrifice means absolutely nothing in both sides and it is embarrassing but recoverable. But Rape in any situation is too far. It’s a whole other level of evil that makes murder and kidnapping even torture feels second rate to rape. Miss Martian doing it psimon I understand, the guy is a rapist himself and the first time she done it, that is fine but what she done to him a second time and the 5 years is simply irredeemable. If Martians knew what they are doing to their victims outside of their own maybe they would have change but the damage is done and people died because of the nonconsensual piece of evil known as rape. With the advent of Phantoms, I'd now say the darkest moment is really Superboy's supposed death (he's actually alive, but in the Phantom Zone, yet we don't find that out until much later). It was shocking, horrific, heartbreaking, impactful on the entire series, cruel, and ultimately fitting. Given Conner is a clone of Superman, it would be apparent if he'd inherited that sense of heroic sacrifice that Superman would have, so the way he goes out of his way to protect the people of Mars like that is a very Superman thing to do. Now you'd think that Miss Martian would be the most affected since the love of her life just threw himself at death's door just as they were about to be married, and she's certainly grieving, but matter of fact it's Beast Boy who suffers even more because of it and he falls into a complete depression. That is messed up, but barring all the superpowers, it's kinda realistic.

I can't remember what it was I wanted to write but part of it was him killing his relative. He did it with almost no hesitation, so it's possible that this isn't his first kin that he had to kill. ok, hear me out. What if in an alternative timeline, something like an elseworld, Ocean master achieves killing the families’ heroes. This tragic event will lead to an adaptation of injustice in young justice. Dividing the heroes in two sides, one group being the superman team, with flash, aquaman, green arrow, black lighting, wonder woman, and many others on his side. With other faction trying to stop the superman plans, that will be the young justice team with the help of quite few justice league members like batman and martian manhunter. The story follows ocean master killing the families of the heroes with the help of lor-zod, who unlike the original timeline, he acts premature because he manages to know about ocean master plan. Thanks to a bomb steal from metron vault, they kill everyone in the city, killing both lor zod and ocean master, so no one will truly know the responsible of the deaths of the heroes’ loved ones.
