I was at that game. Despite my Tigers losing, it turned out to be an all-night convsersation with my best friend since 2nd grade. One of the top 5 nights of my life. She was also at the Earthquake game against Auburn with me in 1988 - THAT WAS A HARD First date to top. How good would this game have been if Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts stayed? It would have surpassed the LSU-Loyola-Maramount or LSU - UNLV games.

I watched this game back then. Shaq with a monster game;Duke with a monster win. Shaq showed his potential as a dominant physical force, and Grant Hill showed his all-around talent. Shaq did not bully Grant Hill. He was primarily guarded by Laettner, while Hill was Duke's point forward, due to Hurley's injury. Poor free throw shooting and some untimely defensive lapses did LSU in this game.

I watched the game live thinking how mighty dream teamer Christian laetner will show Shaq a lesson, but they were not even close in terms of talent. It was a close game for the 36/40 min...What the HL didn't show was how duke had a lead in the end of second half... They hack a shaq'ed almost every possession towards the end and Shaq missed most of his free throws. It was a classic.

@thomasmcgrath93952 жыл бұрын
@@pyeuneu I accept you might have thought Laettner was better for other reasons, and been subsequently surprised at how much more dominant Shaw was, but you offered the dream team status as your reason for this opinion. What that calls into question is whether your memory is accurate regarding what you thought before the game, or whether you developed a stronger opinion after the dream team (perhaps thinking Shaq got robbed). It obviously doesn't matter in this context, but it does bother me when people make claims that are supposed to represent what they had thought at the time but are in fact just as informed by what happened after. It's far easier to have the right opinion once you know how something played out, and it's harder for people who weren't around to understand why things happened if people misrepresent the circumstances of the time.

yep, Duke won the 1992 rematch Duke 77, LSU 67 It was widely reported that Shaq had 'circled' the date from the 1991 dismantling: Duke 88, LSU 70 O'Neal 15 points, 10 rebounds Laettner 24 points, 11 rebouns I think the fact that Hurley's injury in 1992 only a couple of days before robbed Duke of a lot of firepower off the bench. Also, Laettner only started hitting 3-pointers over Shaq late in the game. However, Shaq was the best player on the floor for LSU but to put this as a battle between a guard, Hill, & a center is just click-bait. remember .... O'Neal 25 points, 12 rebounds Hill* 16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists Laettner 22 points, 10 rebounds * subbing for B. Hurley injured Shaquille was a transcendent physical specimen in college a top player in the NBA. Let's also remember that he is a fun-loving intelligent man but as Kobe put it in several interviews, if Shaq had been as focused and engaged the LA Lakers would have won a dozen champions....., though ----- LOL --- 6 is a lot!!!

Duke has had a bunch of stars that proved themselves to be overated once that become lottery picks for the NBA. And its happened in recent years,too. Jahlil okafor, Justice Winslow. Mike dunleavy JR, Tradjon Langdon, Roshawn McLeod, William Avery, Corey maggette, Chris duhon, Daniel Ewing, dahntay Jones, Sheldon Williams, Josh McRoberts, Kyle Singler, Mason plumlee, Austin Rivers, jabari Parker, Rodney Hood, grayson Allen, Marvin Bagley, Wendell Carter, Zion Williamson, and they even had David Robinson's son and not to mention Christian leatner. Coach K is great at putting together great teams that hide weaknesses of player long enough to get them to the NBA but they once they go pro, they get exposed. Every once and a while they make a great transition like Grant Hill, Jayson Tatum, Carlos boozer. Lol deng, JJ Reddick. Drafting players from Duke is almost like taking a quarterback from USC or Ohio State... They're mostly all hype.
