Nureyev learns Bournonville! Thanks for posting. You can see Bruhn's core was stronger and he was overall more polished, but I understand that's why Rudi turned up on his doorstep saying "Teach me to dance like you." And the patina of wildness worked for him with Fonteyn's regal polish.

Well done, Pam. I so look forward to your posts. The turnout of these two is amazing to me. I can't imagine being so limber. The piano background gives the feel of a class. Bravo.

Thank you David! And that is precisely why I chose those pieces of music. Also, the footage I found had the ballet class all out of order. The dancer in me HAD to fix that lol. I found it very touching that they did the barre combinations facing each other, one doing the right and the other left, then switching places so each could do the other side. Very poignant...

So beautiful to see them at the barre together. It’s so romantic. It’s quite obvious they were lovers. What is it about Rudy that draws the eye…something about how he is so deliberate and precise, and yet never lacking in passion? He somehow always walks the line between perfect technique and authentic expression. There will never be anyone like him. He was so lovely and timeless. An icon. I would pay anything to have seen him dance with Fonteyn.

I don't know why, but this makes me a little sad... partners who have long since passed, dancing together. Thank you for posting this clip. I'd never seen it before.

Eric Bruhn was his lover, wasn't he? Thank you for this rare video. No matter how big you are, you still have to work out everyday. Happy New Year 🎉

Absolutely beautiful. The music chosen was perfect, made me want to head over to the piano and learn it, which hasn’t happened for a long time.

@@StLProgressive thank you so much for this comment. The music I use is of utmost importance to me. I spend hours and hours finding just the right pieces. Your acknowledgment means the world to me. So glad you were inspired by video. To me, what higher achievement could one little bit of art aspire to than to pass on inspiration to others.

I scour the internet for clips and edit them into something watchable. I spend hours and hours finding just the right bits and pieces as well as fitting music to put them to. It started out as a hobby for my own enjoyment and to my surprise other people began watching.

@ In my ballet class some years ago, an elderly man, a refugee from Cuba, brought an old Russian documentary about Pliesetskaya for us to watch. It was the only thing he brought with him on the raft he used to get to America. After I saw it, I couldn’t stop crying. None of us could stop crying. Her dying swan was like nothing I have ever seen. I wish I had access to that so I could give it to you to post here. You just find the most amazing films.

@@AkiraBay What an absolute treasure he possessed. I hope the footage is still safe somewhere. I have worked with what I could find of her. She was beyond exquisite. Here is a compilation I am quite proud of. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omGVh4uMhqeWb5osi=MaAMiSIgKu8VgLUq

@@AkiraBayAmazing that was the one item in his life he wanted to save, the one thing with the most meaning to him. Even more so when you consider the cross from Cuba to Florida is 90 miles of potentially dangerous open water. Any number of bad things could have happened to him, yet that film was what mattered most.

Nureyev - messy feet in center. Also at barre: sitting in grand plié. Both surprising
