Very true. That battle between trying to make a good story but worrying about how it looks aesthetically is real!

This reminds me of the Mr. Rogers quote "You are a very special person. There is only one like you in the whole world. There's never been anyone exactly like you before, and there will never be again. Only you. And people can like you exactly as you are." ❤

the thing i realized recently is only i care how something looks. who i am is why people watch my videos, and with that in mind i cant let aesthetics or equipment get in the way of just saying whatever i want to say. i'll never be able to make something that looks bad (to my personal gauge) so i just gotta hit record.

I think your instincts about yourself are absolutely correct. I can say from my outside perspective that I gravitate to your channel because you're opinionated and have your own thoughts about things. And I say that as a compliment. Of course there's a risk that can push people away, but that's exactly what contributing to art, youtube, film, writing whatever is all about. Your pov and your opinion. That being said, your stuff looks great too. haha. And the latent cinematographer in me enjoys your stuff for that as well.

Appreciating this video! I'm a 64-year-old actor who landed a commercial on the Superbowl. That's me as the lead actor on the Etsy Gift app spot.

I like your emphasis on storytelling and the various perspectives that can be considered fresh takes. Other people don’t have your mindset and never will, even if they understand you to a full extent. Custom subconscious is both quite the guessing game if it’s capable of the intriguing sense and the key to a solid association with said specificity.

I feel we sometimes think we can push something out in months, when often it's years, sometimes much longer. When I was elementary/middle school, I wrote some poetry and stories. They weren't bad! A couple were even good. I set that aside for (literally) decades, although I did some technical writing and blogging. These past two years, particularly in the midst of cancer chemo - surgery - radiation - I experienced a sudden burst. I've been able to write countless poems, and this time a few of them aren't just good. I know they're great. This last year, I've felt like a dried up prune - and that's not just because of the prune juice I drank while have various medication side effects. Oddly, being "old and worn out" brought something out I wasn't even looking for. I loved this piece, and it resonates. Thanks!

This is great, Scott. I think about this stuff all of the time. For me, I look back on the wasted time trying to be "cool" in youth, and I'm trying to not let it turn into conservatism or orthodoxy as I mature. Better late than never I guess!

So glad I found this channel-- a bright spot in the polish + preen obsessed youtube filmmaker hellscape. As a younger filmmaker, this has always been my outlook... it doesn't matter how shallow your depth of field is if your storytelling, cutting rhythms, and POV are copy-pasted from everyone else. Love the video✌🏼
@ScottJeschke

Thanks, Gideon! Glad you found it too. Yeah, it's tough because everyone is just giving away aesthetic secrets on KZbin, so anyone with a good eye can learn those things, or as they often do... just copy someone else entirely. A good storyteller w/ a unique POV can never really be copied or replaced.

agreed I question every video what was a the purpose? I watched Brady bessette video of dessert. he mentions it was fun video. I feel nothing but see good images. I asked him what was the purpose, he responded just for fun. I enjoy head talk videos not for pleasing IMGb ut educational such as Scott jesske.

Thanks so much for the kind words! Regarding Brady's video, there's a lot of deadline pressure when sponsors send gear to feature or review, etc, and it gets overwhelming to keep up/ generate ideas that fit, so I get it. It's tough to keep up sometimes. We're all figuring out this crazy evolving platform :)
