Regarding the story from Nolan Richardson: I'm a 65 year old black American man who's followed basketball closely for decades. I first started hearing about Bird in '78, and he was already being described as the best. I had assumed that he was black based on what I was hearing. In '79, I was stunned to learn that he was white and 6'9. When I did see him play for the first time, I instantly knew what all the hype was about! He did EVERYTHING, including dunking on people in traffic! He is in my top 5 all time! ❤😊

Yeah I'd pick LeBron in a 1-on-1 against Bird easily, but as a strategist with a full court of players on the field there's nobody better to have on your side than Larry. Plus, you know that if things get close he'll be the last person that's going to lose his head in a clutch moment. He's one of those rare people that actually got better under pressure. I love the stories about him playing a mediocre game, but then some rookie trash talks him in the fourth quarter while all the veterans on the team go, "NOOOO!" and the entire thing turns into a bloodbath. He's like a sleeping troll from some fairy tale. "Shh! Don't wake him up! He'll kill us all!"

I HATE the Luka and Larry comparison...They have some offensive skills that are the same and like to shoot the ball and are a walking bucket but that's it. Larry came into the league a leader. His rookie year they were +33 games just with the addition of Larry. His 2nd year he led them to an NBA championship. Luka...nope. Larry was a champion from day one. He wouldn't cry to the refs like Luka does. He def wouldn't play half-ass defense like Luka does...He disappears when he doesn't have the ball in his hands...Larry was just as dangerous without the ball....Larry was HUSTLE. The only thing Luke hustles for is the next spot in the buffet line. He has got to be the most out of shape 25 yo in the NBA and it showed last year in the finals. How many times did Luka get stripped in the finals alone? He is not an all-around player....he has some growing up to do

I'd take Larry Bird!". He was bad to the bone and played hurt most of his NBA career. And still, put incredible numbers each and every game. In my book, he was the goat of his hera. And he measure equally against the goat of any other hera quite easily. Bird was a masterful basketball player. His game is ageless. He was 30 or 40 years ahead of his time. And on top of that, he is the best trash talker in the history of the game and beyond, and he back it up each and every time. Bird is the Muhammed Ali, Tiger woods and Tom Brady, bundled together, of the game of basketball.

I can tell you that as a very young kid in the Greater Boston area, the time during the early-to-mid 80s belonged to Bird. When Bird was in the midst of winning 3 MVPs in a row, Larry was soooo good that MANY bball pundits were calling Bird the GOAT--while Jordan and Magic were playing--to give you an idea of just HOW nasty Larry was at that time. Insofar as the GOAT, I have Michael Jordan due to his sheer dominance on the offensive AND defensive end of the court. And, yes, as deadly clutch as Bird was shooting the ball, Jordan was right there too, so Jordan's offensive greatness was much more than him jumping and dunking. That said, when talking about all aspects of a player's game, I think Bird was the greatest ALL-AROUND player, IMO. Deadly clutch shooter, almost 90% FT shooter, exactly 10 rebounds per game, MUCH better passer than MJ, instantly made teammates better (still has best W-L turnaround from previous year to the next w/ more or less same team), ambidextrous as anyone could be, superior hand-eye coordination, trash-talking was second to none, tough as nails, and Bird even made All-NBA Second Defensive Team 3X. So when you take the TOTAL game, (physical, mental, toughness, bball skills), I'll take Bird over anyone.

To demonstrate how great and Impactful Bird was as a player and on a team = look what Bird did as a rookie. Bird went to a 29 win team and with a new coach and 1 player change to the roster in M.L. Carr = Bird was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turn around!! Bird went to Indiana State = a small school with ZERO basketball history and in his senior year led ISU to a 33 and 0 season = upsetting many better teams until finally losing to a Michigan State powerhouse team.

The only reason people compare Luca, to Larry, is because they’re both white guys… Let’s be completely honest about it. Other than that, there really is no comparison, given the differences in the era in which they played. Today’s game is nowhere near as physical as what was on display nightly, back in the 80s. Also, the three-point shot had only come into existence in 1980, or so. It was thought of, at the time, to be a gimmick play. And most teams did not game plan for it. Today, teams are jacking up 50 three-pointers, and barely playing in the paint. Bird did it all, and at a level above the rest.

Bird hasn't played basketball in over 30 years and he is still the most talked about player from the 80's. When he played you heard his name called more than any player on the court. He played on a different level than any player in the NBA. His skills were domanating, from his rebounds, passing, court vision, ball handling, shooting the ball when it counted most, he just done it all. What's most incredible, every player on the court knew he was getting the ball when it was most credible time in the game. I only saw him miss one game changing shot, and it was a shot everybody thought it was going in

I actually think Jokic is a better comparison for Bird than Doncic is. We all see Jokic is the best player in the NBA, and Larry Bird basically *_is_* Nikola Jokic, with just a couple of minor differences. Jokic is a couple inches taller and a bit bulkier/stronger, while Bird is a bit better defender and outside shooter. But they're obviously the same basic model: Big guy, great hands, top-shelf passer, excellent anticipation, good rebounder, and shoots well anywhere from the low post to the 3-point line. A solid defender who often plays better than that because, again, they anticipate so well. Not much of a leaper and not great foot speed, both of which make people underestimate how athletic they actually are aside from those limitations.

i have larry bird as the greatest forward of all time, the greatest small forward of all time, the second greatest player behind jordan, however hes the goat when it comes to overall basketball iq and skill. jordan had the super athleticism imagine if bird kept his young athleticism and didnt hurt his back at 28

Difference between Legend and Joker/Luka is the defense they played and played against them. Legend's career def rating is right behind Akeem the Dream.

Haven’t even watched yet but plain and simple if I’m starting a team I’m drafting Larry Bird first allday everyday. I was blessed to have a father that sponsored Celtics and we had courtside seats in the 80’s greatest player I’ve ever seen. To this day I still have floor seats in the city I live in know. I’ve never seen anyone do what he could.

I'm lmao... Jordan didn't have good players.. I do believe Larry got the better of MJ at least twice and this was after Larry's horrific back injury. MJ was amazing.. no doubt, but he pretty much had to have the ball.. cause he could make it happen with the ball in his hands.. Larry didn't have to have the ball to make great plays

One thing I feel is for certain... Larry couldn't get away with his comments in the, unfortunate, day and age in any sport. They can't play anything today like they used to and I'm not sure there's the level of respect there used to be.. Larry backed up his Trash Talking and did it in a way that wasn't offensive.. I've never heard of him playing dirty, like Laimbeer, but I have heard that Laimbeer was the one player Larry truly disliked.. because of the dirty way he played.
