i dont know why ppl always compare young royals to heartstopper. the only thing they have in common is that theyre both mlm shows, but theyre nothing alike in terms of characters, story etc.

I think with alot of reactors it's because they came to YR because of comments on thier HS videos asking for a YRoyals reaction, so the fanbase overlaps and they start off with that in mind. Most stop comparing after ep 1 or 2

Simon and Sarah are the non-boarders of Hillerska School, meaning they don’t live (sleep) there. They were admitted (gratis ?) because they are from the local town and had excellent grades. Sarah is a year older, but she doubled a year bc of bullying at her former school. That’s why they’re both in the same class. She wants to succeed in that new environment and is determined not to be distracted from her goal. Wilhelm declares in the public video ‘since my Confirmation last summer’ which would mean he is 15, the age of Confirmation in the Lutheran Church of Sweden, the royal family’s church. Maybe he’s 16 if ‘last summer’ took place 1 year before the events (not clear).

More episodes are getting better and better. What i like is that simon not sad-weak boy, he can stand for him self from bullies and wille is not the typical arrogant prince, he is actually really nice and genuine.

It is one of the reasons I like this show sooo much. They twisted most of the tv show tropes and cliches into something more interesting and unique. I love the creator Lisa Ambjörn's and the director Rojda Sekersoz's visions. Plus, they worked with an intimacy coordinator which led fantastic results in terms of intimacy between Wille and Simon 🔥

I began watching Heartstopper and never finished past the first 2 episodes. Later, I found Young Royals and didn't stop until I had watched the entire season in 1 afternoon! I often re-watch scenes from YR. Young Royals is simply a deeper, more powerful story. Both characters seem at risk on Young Royals which lends intensity. I never sensed that on Heartstopper.

Looking forward to the rest of your reaction on Young Royals (and perhaps Norwegian Skam in the future, also a great show, if you like Young Royals you'll love Skam, it's so good, make sure to watch it from the start, even if some will try to convince you to just watch season 3). 2:58 Fun fact, Pernilla August, who plays Wilhelm's mom, also played Shmi Skywalker, Anakin Skywalkers (Darth Waders) mom. 7:06 In Sweden you can only get booze from one shop, the state-run Systembolaget, and you have to be 20 to get it. August is about 18, Sara is 17 and Simon, Wilhelm and Felice is about 16. 3:46 It's a Ferrari 458 Spider (according to the Internet Movie Cars Database). A lot of Swedish royalty has been into cars... and speeding. Like the current king's uncle, Bertil, was called "The motor prince". This is his first acting job though. Edvin Ryding who plays Wille (pronounce it like Vi Leh, with the same stress on both syllables) is very experience as an actor, even if he was just 17 when this was recorded, he's been acting since he was 5, and has been in some quite big Swedish productions. Young Royals is more resembled to Skam OG (aka Norway). Heartstopper is more adolescent teen show. YR is more mature teen but not oversexualized like Elite and the actors are actual teens (minus Omar aka Simon). Personally I like YRs more.

Heartstopper is like a cupcake. Sweet and fluffy. Young Royals and SKAM are like steak. Meatier and more substantial. All enjoyable in their own ways, for different reasons. I loved YR & SKAM so much once you delve into them, so much depth and emotion. Enjoy!!
