He’s definitely portrayed as being a less than bright kid here, but trust me, as someone who went through most of my childhood being unpopular, mostly you learned to just accept what was thrown at you. Him retaining his sweetness while living in a world of hurt is a form of self defense.

She is a normal teenage girl, with everything that comes with it, and most of the time she is Second to Sheldon, and then Georgie when he has that baby, so it's a normal reaction, when she is ignored or not cared that much about at home, to want to go out with friends to parties and have fun, not the next door neighbour, whose parents are divorced, who's mother is her father's mistress etc. There is absolutely no reason she needs to go out with him. She comes first - since when does putting others before yourself, work out well? You need to look after your own mental health, and general health. It's obvious the atmosphere in her house is stifling, and damaging her mental health, do you really want to see her start self harming, or taking drugs? Sadly I know a few people, close friends and relatives of mine, who grew up in a similar situation to missy, they put people before themselves too, and they ended up committing suicide from serious self harming, depression and drug over use...

Billy isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he is a good person, with a big heart and a good sense of loyalty. I've been a big fan of the Billy character since he stood up for Missy when she was being harassed about Georgie. While I wish that Missy would have made a better choice, she at least came clean with Billy.

Honestly, she did the right thing. It wasn't noble, but it doesnt *have* to be. She never gets invited to Brittney's party and she DIDN'T just *ditch* Billy. She explained the situation and asked if they could switch plans. He said sure and she was happy about it. Would everyone have rathered her go will Billy being internally resentful she wasn't at the party? It'd be one thing if she stood him up or lied about being sick, but she told him the situation.

That's better than I got from some girls when I was a teen. I once had a girl cancel on me the day before we were supposed to go on a date saying she got grounded. I went out anyway and caught her out with other people. Long term, I'm glad I dodged that bullet because looking back I know we wouldn't have lasted long if we had ended up going out.

I think people forget that Missy is a teenager. She had the courage to get advice from all angles, and even attempted to talk to her mom! In the end, even though she made the choice that was more for her, she was honest with him and she didn't lie to him about it. Even though that wasn't the noble choice...it's still character growth!

Genuinely asking, do you think people sometimes project the horrible adults they know onto teenage characters? Or evaluate them through an adult lens as a result? To your point teens want to "fit in", I know I did. The show writers seem to be tapping into the idea that Missy was an early example of what is now how we run our society, the idea of social status as a governing force. That being shallow, elitist, and a terrible human being is okay as long as you're pretty and popular. When you're a teenager that might not do much harm but it seems very much how we run our society now. So they judge teens by adult standards because it reminds them of those shallow adults. Missy knew what the noble thing to do was, but didn't want to. She went to her dad hoping he'd explain a way for her to do so without her being an awful friend, he didn't. She went to her grandma hoping for the same, she didn't. Then her mom, who of course would also not give her the answer that she wanted to hear. Billy told her that it would be okay, so she took it. It just seems very messed up to cancel plans that you made with a longtime friend, someone who stood by you when everyone was talking smack about your family, for the sake of a terrible person who was playing a mean trick on said friend. It's like saying she values that popular girl over Billy.

True. Especially as that girl was nasty to Billy before.... Missy might be popular and have high EQ, but uses it in awful ways. I think she's worse than Sheldon - while Sheldon is clueless in social interactions, while Missy is often coldly calculating and ignoring others' feelings deliberately. Here she KNEW what was the right thing to do, and didn't do it. And basically told Billy to his face that she'd rather hand out with his bully. And that's just one example, she does such things all the time... Even the tantrum over the baby was crazy. Not once she asked how's Mandy or the baby, only kept pitying herself for having to walk from school, which was clearly normal walking distance.

However I do think she has normal emotional intelligence and is just really selfish, hypocritical and rude. All she does is cause trouble and stir up drama. Just my opinion but Missy, although indirectly, layed out the situation and Billy made a good point. The party isn't something as easily scheduled as going to the movies so it's like a better opportunity. Missy could benefit from the party and go to the movies with Billy another time. If the movies were for some reason also as high a priority as the party then yes I think Missy should stick with plans with Billy since that came first.

Only cuz she had to be really. She was looking for a way to go to the party without feeling like she was an awful friend. When her fam couldn't give her an excuse, she went to Billy sorta for permission; "he's the one being affected by her choice if he says it's okay then I'm in the clear" is what she's probably thinking. Problem is that Billy is too good a guy to make her honor that promise if she really doesn't want to and they'd both be miserable if she was there out of obligation, and I think Missy knew that. Isn't she the socially smart one? She probably knew that Billy would say that it's fine to cancel and bet on it to get what she wanted to hear and have a clear conscience about it.

Sheldon an Missy are adolescents. As we know, an adolescent is a young person) (12-25 years-old) in the process of developing from a child into an adult, a transitory time and therefor full of stresses, strains, awkwardness, doubts, mistakes and sadness. However, It is also a time of hope, joy, physical and emotional growth, and most of all, of new experiences and exploration. We all were there and went through it for better or worse, and, for better or worse, we all remember it well.. Whatever we may have experienced then, I know no one who would want to repeat ii.. It's hard to watch Missy not doing the noble, morally right and kind thing because we have come to like Missy and to sympathize with her thanks to skilled and knowledgeable writing, and Raegan's excellent, insightful portrayal of her. As much as we may be rooting for Missy to be a better person regarding the innocent and so very vulnerable Billy, a character who is really all of us, what we see, as cruel as it is, is accurate for what a girl her age would be likely to do. Missy may come to regret it and not make that mistake again. We can hope for the best, but the truth is, what and who we become arises not as much from what we do that is right, as rare as that may be, but from making many such mistakes, hopefully learning from them and being careful not to repeat them. I hope that many of today's adolescents are watching this show, as I suspect so many of them are. It might give them comfort to know that they are not alone, nor "weirdos" or jerks, and that feeling awkward, unsure, insecure, and often unhappy is not unique to them personally, but is universal for kids their age. My message to them: This, too, will pass. Have courage. The rest of your life awaits you.

I hope a future episode shows Missy going to the movies with Billy. People need to keep in mind that Missy was under no obligation to say she'd go with him in the first place. Give Missy credit for knowing the right thing to do is to not bump her date with Billy. At least she was upfront with him and didn't try to deceive him. It sucks we're getting this from Sheldon's point of view because his take on relationships is horrible. As for Mary being a good mom, are you serious? I think this could be interesting development and it would serve Missy right. She said Brithey and her aren't friends, and she knows that girl was nasty to Billy, still she ditches Billy to go to her party, and even tells him to his face... It would serve her right if she ended up being on the receiving end of another prank, she would perhaps value her real friends more next time.
