Bro female gorillas do the same, they need to reproduce but they will avoid mating with their parents. For females there is no other option because the only male with mating rights is their father, they have to go, while males can combat their father to stay and reproduce with the females, because only one of them is their mother. What you said doesn't make sense. And women don't stay with their parents either xd

To @LeprosuGnome - I do not believe for one second that there is not some understanding or awareness when situations like these arise. Personally, like @kendee . I would agree. Probably far more than we will ever likely know. What has not been touched upon in these documentaries are the ramifications of an extraordinarily intensive, continuous daily, dawn till dusk, and decades long set of observational studies of several hundred individually identified gorillas that were conducted at platforms built at forest swamp clearings where groups would congregate to feast on the nutritious aquatic vegetation. The gorillas would travel several miles to these places Published in a journal , titled 'Proceedings of the Royal Society B', periodic samples taken from different sites and over the whole length of the study revealed that gorilla 'society' has a complex 'tribal aspect' and in breaks from feeding it was observed that on average each individual gorilla interacted with thirteen others, akin to family and extended relations but beyond that there were interactions with another thirty-nine, who bore no relation, with whom they would spend time, associate with, and form lasting friendships. It was also observed that at such meetings females may swap groups and bachelor groups would be formed.

I always wonder how much of the narrative is completely invented and how much is true. What's for sure is that the images cannot conceivably correspond to the narration (what would be the chances of capturing the precise moment the young gorilla leaves the main group, etc.)

Bits of dramatization may not do any harm on the reputation of BBC. Allowed to make an own decision is in fact humanely rather than expelled brutally. For the rest, nothing unusual in the wild.
@jimasselin9733 Жыл бұрын
I think it is a mistake to instill our human emotions onto an animals decision making. Was it indeed a difficult decision or was it instinctive? Does the gorilla really lament its future without its immediate family - or lament the possibiity of a future withour making its own family? I think BBC Earth makes too many assumptions in its productions.

They say if he stays with the troop, he will never get the chance to mate because he's not strong enough to challenge the dominant male. But by going off on his own, he will still have to challenge another dominant male to take over a troop. He's not going to just find a troop of females and young with no male around. I don't understand.
@mokarokas-1727 Жыл бұрын
The idea is that he might be able to find a troop led by a weaker male, that he CAN take on.
@WILD__THINGS Жыл бұрын
@mokarokas-1727 You can't really make that claim. I think moreso it's an instinct they have in order to prevent inbreeding.
@mokarokas-1727 Жыл бұрын

@mokarokas-1727 Жыл бұрын
@@WILD__THINGS - It's hard to say whether it's instinctual, as gorillas may also stick around and take over from a male that's getting on in the years. Worth noting that the females are not all related.
