@sholomantian5 жыл бұрын
@Seh Yun Han it's not infringing on human rights. This is their culture and it's their decision to change as they wish. Also you probably didn't watch the video. This isnt a real bride market. At this point the "bride market" is just a gathering of unmarried men and women who meet up. The idea of arranged marriages within a tribe is an ancient practice.
@sholomantian5 жыл бұрын
@Seh Yun Han you're still stuck in a western liberal lense. In England this doesn't work because it doesn't fit the value system. "Human rights " is a western construct that tries to apply western values everywhere. If you want to understand the world better try to keep an open mind. They are not executing people here. They have arranged marriages. It's very much a tribal practice for them.
@sholomantian5 жыл бұрын
@Seh Yun Han lol now this is becoming funny. No one told you to embrace it. You live your way they live their way. Easy. No one needs to police the world. These ideals of policing the world, and trying to enforce western morals everywhere ends up costing precious resources and lives.
@sholomantian5 жыл бұрын
@Seh Yun Han bottom line for me is that we don't understand their culture, and their frame of reference or their history. We don't understand the complexity of how they feel about it or how modern they are at this point. There are many very bad things happening in the west that people suffer in. Not to compare , but we try our best and we make improvements. Same for them. They've changed a lot in the passed few generations.

As a Bulgarian myself seeing this truly hurts. Seeing these beautiful young woman being sold in the gypsy community is so unfair. The lack of government control lead to this result. They’re ruining their lives at a young age without having a voice. These gypsy traditions leads to uneducated generations, low income and tension between the Bulgarians and gypsy communities.
@davidsimeonov Жыл бұрын
@@contgoogle181 I completely agree about this generation. It is truly hard to find a good partner these days. But still these people are not objects to be sold. They have to have the choice to choose who they marry. You can see in the video these girls being in love with someone and being sold to some guy which who knows what kind of person he could be. And just because they’re virgins doesn’t mean that they won’t turn into “whores”. The fact that they marry someone who they don’t love will eventually result to cheating or deep depression. What about their kids? What kind of environment will they grow up in? And unlike them who won’t marry someone they love, you can. And you can look for the kind of girl you want.

Video at 0:45 mentions Kalaitchi tribe of gypsy people. The word 'Kalai" in Sanskrit means coating of Tin on brass or copper vessels. Maybe the forefathers of these gypsy people who originated from India did this particular work as profession. The art of kalai (kalhai or qalai) is the process of coating an alloy surface such as copper or brass by deposition of metal tin on it.[1] The word "kalai" is derived from Sanskrit word kalya lepa, which means "white wash or tin". "kalaya-lepa" in the chapter of cookery or "supashashtra" which means applying kalai on utensils. People practicing the art of kalai are called Kalaiwala or Kalaigar.[3] Basically, Kalaigars or Kalaiwalas are community craftsmen.

@iamirish72265 жыл бұрын
@Jay Lo Women in western societies do not need to have sex with men nor do they need to adhere to any beauty regime. Most women simply choose to, nobody is forced to and that is on the woman. You have the freedom to decide what path you walk, what value and worth you put in yourself. The funny thing is yes lots of men will walk away if you are not jumping into bed with them because women think it is liberating to have easy casual sex and have trained men to expect that, nonetheless a man worth having will respect a woman who does not jump into bed with him far more than the one who just opens her legs. How many women lose their children after a break up and ordered to pay child support and leave the family? Very very few. Woman do not get paid less than men for doing the same job to the same standard or let's face it why hire men? Why would it be hard to get the job as a woman if you are a cheaper option, business is about making money. Where are the quotas for men to get the job rather than the best candidate... That only exists for women or certain minorities not for just for being a man. The dangerous jobs you think men are no longer doing lol are still being done by men, so are the nasty jobs and exceptionally few woman can be found in the dirtiest, hardest and most dangerous jobs.... And silence from the femenists on quotas for any of these roles. Women are often too busy trying to build carrers and or out partying and having flings, casual sex and short term fun than they are with creating a family. Women scream for equality only when it is in their favour. Women want to have their cake and eat it. Women buy into the impossible dream of having it all. Modern women make crap wives and crap mothers, they are entitled and selfish. I am so happy to be old fashioned enough to navigate this materialistic, narcasistic, soul destroying times that has no focus on family.

Man is the head of the family to provide and protect, but it is the woman who runs the house, this is her domain and this is where she excels. We have this tradition all over the world for a reason. It worked for thousand of years and it works for these Roma people till today. I did not see that these girls were unhappy. In fact this market had an atmosphere of a party to it. Also boys have to work hard to earn money for the bride and it teaches them the value of money and hard work, something a lot of young people do not understand.

Oli B Female mutilation has also existed for years. Does that mean we leave it alone? Do a little research of the high level of abuse that exists in the Roma community. The men want virgins but they’re not. That is BS!
@szobione5 жыл бұрын
@@Itsallaboutlove52 As if male mutilations aren't practiced anymore. Ask a Jew. As for the biological virginity, men do not possess it. They also have external genitals easy to keep in proper hygiene. Women on the other hand carry theirs inside and every time they sleep with a random man they acquire all sorts of bacteria and they carry them around. Thus it is safer for a man to marry a virgin woman and for the woman not to sleep around and carry shit from casual encounters. Pure biology. Also promiscuous women have trouble pair-bonding, a well established fact. Mother Nature did not mean for them to sleep around. Btw, my wife was a virgin when we met and she was in her mid-twenties and she was neither unhappy about it nor ashamed of it. And she is not Roma.

A super documentary - great job. We all need to learn to be less judgemental about the cultures and traditions of others. Well, they don't get sold off and play 'ping-pong' on the same night. The girl and the boy, when they are really young, will simply become BF&GF until they are older, like 14-15. They visit each other, spent time together, and learn to know each other. The bride's money will be paid when it's 100% sure they will marry, or shortly before the marriage. At least, that is what I heard in another documentation (yeah, I got curious about this bride market stuff)
@Eisenwulf6663 жыл бұрын
It wasn't so weird 200 years ago in "modern" countries in europe. The moment the girl had her first period, she technically became a woman. That said, tradition is no excuse for barbarism. "It's our tradition" we don't give a fuck, either you follow the law or you get punished, simple as that.

Its so sad to hear those girls say "I just want to be respected". Makes me realize about the freedom I have had taken for granted. People over there dont want to be super famous, have a luxurious life, or be an amazing pop stars. Their dream and desire is to be a banker, businesswoman, and/or a hairdresser. Whatever might be the line of work, they are looking to stand on their own feet, and live independent of others. The interviewer fundamentally doesn't understand. These young women aren't being "raised to serve future husbands." They're being raised to be pillars of their family and community. Hello! ^_^ As a Bulgarian, I'd like to say that Pepa speaks very intelligently with minimum accent, and seems lovely. She was my favourite girl in this documentary as she strikes me as a woman, who wants to learn and progress in life outside of being a house wife. It can be hard to do so in Bulgaria, especially if you are Roma (because of their own traditions but also because of stigma/racism). The Kalaidzii Roma are probably the best accepted out of the whole Roma community as they are known to be hard workers but very sheltered and keen to not mix with others to maintain their traditions and patriarchy. This stops their women from developing professionally. The Bulgarian government tried to keep kids in school by cutting off social benefits if they do not attend, but Roma parents often prefer their kids to work/help around the house instead, as school is seen as a luxury and waste of time. It is very important to showcase girls like Pepa, who want to study and succeed professionally in life. It makes me extremely happy when someone from the Roma community can break from their traditions and make their dreams come true. Goof luck to all of them! :)

The man wasn't being disgusting it's their culture that's normal to them.She wants an education b/c she doesn't know the price of what comes with it. In the long run these women are in a more stable situation. Western women like you think being married and having a man take care of you is wrong? It works for these women in the long rung they have insurance through their kids and husband provide for them. They don't have to work. They didn't seem miserable from what I see. Sex in the City lifestyle women in NY look more miserable than the virgins in this video. But you keep being feminist dear, don't mean every other women have to.
@somkeshav41435 жыл бұрын
@@jookbj This is true, but this part of Bulgaria is also a Western nation, but the parents have to sell their daughters for financial stability. It just comes off as kind of sickening, that's what people have to resort to. Women in NY can decide whether or not they want to have an education or not, but these women don't have that option. Having a culture is one thing, but not progressing to fit modern standards is whole different culture.
