@@Alabenson Constantly being next to Youngblood's standard levels of dross can play such tricks on your mind that I'm genuinely not sure. I just caught myself thinking that the artwork in his story was great only to realise that the third nice thing I could think of to say about was that it was on-model - the first two being that it was quite expressive in a nicely stylised way and that it's decently dynamic in some panels (admittedly a minor point given the lack of action) - so my standards for "greatness" seem to have slipped a little. Writing-wise, I'd say he's uneven. The core of the character is genuinely strong, I think, and it _sometimes_ shines through but this issue is a great example of the writers not seeming to be able to shake the grand Image Comics tradition of being aimlessly verbose even in dialogue for characters who aren't served at all by that writing style. Everyone goes through phases of sounding like... well, me - and that's barely a good thing when you're _not_ supposed to be an easily-bored child (or at least someone with a generally childlike outlook).

@Dynaman216 ай бұрын
The closest I can think of is the Youngblood relaunch in 2017 (that I kind of hope Linkara does eventually) where Badrock is dying due to the mutation that made him what he is, and he helps form a new Youngblood to show that he was genuine about wanting to be a hero. That Youngblood relaunch was genuinely good, which makes it kind of a shame that it was cut short due to rights stuff and Marvel poaching the writer/artist.
@archmageeldran25676 ай бұрын
That cover makes me want to poke Badrock with a needle to see if he pops like a balloon. I will say that his story was the better of the two and if he wasn't attached to Youngblood it might even have been interesting as you see a mostly positive character deal with how other people treat his otherness without a support system as well as seeing how his fathers attempts to capture him affects the twos relationship. Sadly that never happened. Combat's story on the other hand gives me no reason to like him due to two reasons. His culture only gets basic warrior stuff and we don't really get a sense on how he feels about his peoples philosophy just regurgitation. The only thing that feels like a character trait that is his is the burning which does not make me like him as a character. The fight at the end feels hollow because we don't get enough information to care about the fighters or why they are fighting. The ending which I think is supposed to show how the guy is rethinking the lessons he has been taught but because the lesson is so basic it doesn't land and is uninteresting. Having the guy be forced to work with his enemy and give more of an insight on his opinions on his peoples culture and relationship with other races would have worked better and shown why he is willing to work with humans on Youngblood. Instead of having him imply that he is starting to think his peoples culture is wrong have him say that he still has much to learn or something.
