How long should a standard Gel Fill take? What about if your client wants a color change plus a glitter press on top? We're thinking somewhere around 30 minutes? How about less than 30? Tracey takes you through a REAL TIME demo on exactly how to perform this in under 30 minutes.

“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

I was the one that commented on painting the smile line. Thank you for talking about it! Some one else also commented that encapsulating would last longer and I agree! I didn’t think of it like that. Most of my clients like to change it up a lot so it is easier for me to paint but on those that like the smile line constantly I will cut out the smile line. I’m so excited you talked about it though! And thank you for showing the gel fill. I’ve been getting into gel recently being a strictly acrylic only nail tech and your products have helped a ton 😁

Hi Young Nails Team! I’m a licensed nail tech from Hong Kong. I was taught both gel and acrylic in school, but I’ll say nail salons here are 99% gel. I still practice acrylic on myself from time to time, or if I have a nail bitten client I will use acrylic on her. I just keep hearing Tracey saying that we should be able to do both and be able to offer what the clients need ... how do we know whether the client needs acrylic or gel.. ? I’m going to be greedy and go for a second question... here in HK we don’t have refills.. it’s just a set price for gel mani and pedi.. and nail art is extra... but the way we perform a “refill” would kinda be the same (like we would file off the colour and if the base is not lifted we will re-balance and go from there)... so I’m confused.. is a new setting just for acrylics where you can soak off and start new.. ?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 5 жыл бұрын
1. Tracey goes through a couple examples as to who does best with one or the other, it's your job as a tech to know, ex. : extreme bitten or ski slope nails = acrylic, eggshell, or heavy water exposure = gel. 2. As long as your clients are coming back to you and receiving regular maintenance on their nails with good product there is no need to remove and reapply. Fills and re balancing will be all they need in the future to maintain. Only time necessary is if there is damage, or by client request to achieve a certain look.

Tracey, it’s amazing how quick you can do a fill and all with quality. I can see now that Tracey can do her services as quickly as she foes because she knows what she needs to do in each services. She knows all her steps and then just does them. I think this is where I lose a lot of my time. I still find myself fiddling and stumbling through my services and losing time as I do. I don’t have a constant flow of clients and I think the big gap between each client is what makes it hard for me to keep all the steps fresh in my mind. Apart from just practicing on more people and just keep doing more sets. What are some ways, tips or tricks that new techs can do that will help with remembering the steps needed in their services? Love Tracey’s wrists, I have real baby wrists that’s why I don’t like filming. Xx 💋

Repetition! Whether it's practicing on yourself, a fake hand, friends and family or even just repeating steps. Tracey's flow comes from several years in salon seeing around 14 clients per day! That is a lot of practice. It becomes second nature to you after the billionth time muscle memory almost. There are no secrets just loootttsss of practice! :)

More coats of hot pink or a lighter glitter mix? How do you gauge what will show through and what will cover on a general basis? Thanks again for these wonderful videos!!

I love your videos, so informative! I do have a question. You put top coat on after each glitter press, but how do you keep from contaminating it with color and glitter?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 5 жыл бұрын
Honestly we recommend one top coat for glitter and one for solid to eliminate the problem completely but to help if you do not do that try a softer touch when applying the top coat so you are more like floating the top coat on rather than brushing it on. Picks up a little less glitter plus you of course dry brush off the excess glitter before top coating, and you can wipe the brush after if you do pick any up.

Marelyn Dixon awe, that must be frustrating. I heard that too much primer can cause lifting as well. Have you tried to use a different system on her, like maybe dip nails, fiberglass, gel, poly gel, or something else? Maybe it’s acrylic? Hopefully they stop lifting. Sorry this is happening to her.

Talking about lights, on bottles or descriptions we mostly see: 60LED / 2Min UV. Okay, understood. But, we now enter the 54W World.. and I guess that we are going to see more Wattage in the future.. Are descriptions going te be different from now on? Or are we on a border? Because is 60 seconds still the way to walk with 54W?

How much do you charge for a fill vs a new set for something like this?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 2 жыл бұрын
Well you would take your full set or fill base price whatever that is and usually includes one gel polish color. The we charge $5 per glitter used which in this case was 3 so that's an additional $15 on top of your base price.

So how do you know if one needs get or acrylic?
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 5 жыл бұрын
Tracey kind of goes over some instances here in this video, typically ski slope nails or extremely bitten nails require acrylic in order to cast the nail into where it should go. Some clients have allergies to acrylic which leaves them to gel for extensions.

My rule of thumb is: Rigid/thick nails = acrylic. Thin/flexible/oily = gel. I found that those who have more rigid nails/thicker nails do better with acrylic because rigidity meets rigidity and pairs together without lifting or pulling away at the free edge. Those with thinner nails that warp easily when wet or break easily like an eggshell do better with gel because it is more flexible. I also feel that those with oily nails (I am that person, with eggshell nails) do much better with gel because base gels don't seem to be as bothered by oils. You cannot dehydrate me or rough my nail plate enough to keep acrylic on at either the cuticle or free edge. It was maddening and no one could ever get me through 2 weeks without lifting. Gel sits like a dream for me. I could get 10 lifts in the past and now I'm lucky to see one or two max. It is why not pricing different for acrylic vs gel is so important. You choose what is best, not their wallet. Better service, happier customers, and that is the right way to go about it to have the right product to do the job correctly.

What is the protein bonder (Name produce, where get) I’m interested about stopping lifting, Thanks
@youngnailsinc
@youngnailsinc 5 жыл бұрын
Protein bond is The leader in non-acidic adhesion without the corrosive primers, our proprietary polymer bonds to the keratin structure and creates a stickier surface. Bonds to the natural nail and provides an anchor for gel, acrylic and polish. Prevents all lifting and chipping, considered like a double sided sticky tape. Available at youngnails.com

I guess this is why it takes me longer..and it always will.. There is too much space between the gelpolish and cuticlw it literally already looks like 1 week old nails... So when someone tells me they had theie nails filled in 30mins all I can say is "I see" because if you applied the gelpolish as perfectly as I do even with all your experience it would take you another 10 to 15 mins. This to me is very important and as a Client paying 60+ for would be way too much :)

K. So those nails were fabulous. Of course. Even though I’m still a student. My first acrylic fill last weekend took me 5hours. Granted my efile broke. But still. And I only did one coat of glitter press on 8 of the nails. I did them for free. But when her husband turned around while looking at them and asked how much i would charge. I turned to friend and asked her. “I don’t know? Rauni how much would you charge me for sitting in my chair for so long?!” We had a good laugh. But iam kind of concerned since I. Finish school at the end of this month. What do you think? Btw. Just tell them. Tough enough to wear pink!

Tracy, you can hear yourself pressing for time. As if you tend to prefer a bit more relaxed speed, maybe 5 min longer. Lol. The only time I pressed on super fast time were weddings. I'd make a deal on everything, well except feet. Hands, makeup and hair. Feet were on a different schedule, meaning done previously to the day before or actual day of... ahh no! .. Day of is brides hair and makeup and maids as well as moms.

@@youngnailsinc how funny! What ever happened to techs that did full mani's that included a relaxing a hand and arm massage to or around the elbow to the hand? Though I'm a lic Cosmo when I did nails, especially in the Pentagon, so many preferred mine versus other techs. I'd take 2 to 3 min max longer on my service, giving a massage into the elbow but working the deeper muscles in the arm and hands. Many didnt have the time for acrylics, silks etc. But wanted a lunch mani. The shop set up everything on quarter hours. However, if noone comes it, or calls, I'd have time, though my clients only have their lunches. Note, this was 95 to 98. And including many military and official's but many civilians/medical/dental. Once I got my hands on them, they literally wanted to live at the shop. I do pressure points, and deep tissue, it helps mellow them out in a deeply stressed job. If i needed to I'd be done in the allotted time. Odd thing is the other stylist was busier then I was, well at first when I started, but I made 3x her in tips the full day. By the time I left, I was making everything 3x she was. Lol.. I didn't go out of my way to take clients, but if I had time available and they needed it that day, well , that's how thing's happened. I am actually an honest stylist, no games.. I do similar when we had deep conditionings charged, they'd get a scalp down to shoulders rub. Anyhow, stylist, when I started were allowed to do massages head to shoulder/arm area,, knee to toe ant elbow area to fingers. This also includes the face ... so for the most part I cant into the main trunk of the body. But I never see anyone doing them. Plus the calm slow breathing helps alot.. she might consider and learn that. If she does it, the client actually begins to mimic esp if you do a touch of deeper rub even 1 minute. Then continue her breathing... when EVERYONE is done, everyone is relaxed. .seriously!! It works. Just wondered.
