I think a punk route would make them more like anti-idols similar to how jpop has an anti-idol idol industry incorporating punk and metal along side shocking lyrics in order to create a alternative to the norm. Hip hop is a standard in kpop so it's hard to really change anything like that. Bigbang shaked things up with hip hop but thats decades ago, gonna be hard to do it again.
