Many protestants become RC is they don't really believe the bible, but believe the bible AND the doctrines of men, such as the Early Church Fathers and doctrine of denomination (after the New Testament). The pattern for Christianity has always been, the New Testament Church, not outside of it. I can't imagine God would lead me to Christianity that is mixed with paganism; idols, praying to Mary instead of Jesus, vain repetition of the rosary (comes from Buddhism, not the Bible), confessing sin to a man instead of my faults, etc.

I was already a believer when I started watching him and at first was frustrated by how close he was without being all in. I would call him "the best accidental evangelist". 😂 but then I really felt like the Lord was telling me to just trust it, as JP is bringing so many secular minds to freshly approach a book they may not have ever even opened or seen as anything other than a fable. Then, I was able to trust that he would indeed lead many to the Lord in a much deeper way than perhaps a single emotional testimony. JP is so incredibly well read... I'm not sure I've heard of anyone who has read as much as that man. And it means more coming from someone who has taken in all the great literary, scientific, historical, and philosophical works and still reaches the conclusions he does on the word of God. A LOT of people NEED that, as they have too many other facts and questions to wrestle with ❤ What a beautiful thing

I also was finishing my doctorate during the 90s when the minimalists were all over the place. Very disheartening, but it also became rather ridiculous, since it was clear that the proponents had little interest in actually listening to evidence. My job during that period was working with a project that photographed ancient inscriptions. Anytime anything was found that actually related to biblical history, there was a huge effort to date it to a late period or explain it away as being something different. In some ways that still has not changed.

“Try doing that with a scroll.” It’s very interesting to think about it like this, how a book was such a technological innovation for writing at the time that it was akin to RAM for a computer. This is probably why Christians were referred to as “the people of the book” in many historical accounts, especially in the Middle East. The reason is because we were the only ones who made books, and there was only one book that was made by us. So the phrase “the people of the book” was just as specific as calling someone “a card carrying communist,” in the minds of someone immersed in the culture of that time it conjures an image of a specific kind of person.
