UnwantedImagery have you dealt with any other side effects like weight gain or anything? I've been looking for a new form a Of birth control and have been thinking about getting this but haven't been sure. I had the depo shot before but had to get off of it because I had periods that would last a whole month or more and it made me gain a bunch of weight
@Zubiila7 жыл бұрын
The IUD actually doesn't cause weight gain (nor does other birth controls), it's a common misconception. What happens is that the hormones in the birth control increases your appetite a bit. Because of this doctors usually warn their patients to be aware of the possible increase in appetite, simply so that the patient can make sure they don't start eating more than they normally would. :)

I got my IUD about 4 months ago and it was the best decision I could have made. The insertion was painful but it was completely bearable. There's was cramping after for about maybe a month of it settling in. Since getting the hormonal IUD my period have become lighter and only last 3 days, for me it was comfortable to use and I'm never paranoid about getting pregnant. When I was trying to decide if I should get an IUD this is the type of video I would come to and I would read the comments and the majority of the comments were all horror stories and saying all these horrible side effects and I was terrified. So to anyone who's thinking about getting an IUD, i had a great experience with mine and just because someone has a horrible experience doesn't mean you will. Everyone is different and reacts to these things in a different way. Please do your research about the form of contraception you're thinking about using before getting it and don't let the horror stories discourage you.

With our politicians working to repeal the ACA it means women's prevention methods will no longer be covered by insurance companies. Many women can't afford to spend 200 dollars, once a month, out of pocket, for birth control. So they are turning to the IUD's. Getting them inserted while the cost is still covered by their insurance, and knowing it will be there for years. I know that's why I am switching from my preferred method of birth control, to the IUD.

It’s the worst pain a woman could go through... I’ve heard many people say it is worse than childbirth
@cammerations6 жыл бұрын
I had cramps for six months. To the point that I couldn't walk properly and was just told that it was normal. Finally my mum, seeing how much pain I was in, dragged me to a gynecologist who was horrified when he saw how big the IUD I'd been fitted was. He said it was for women who'd just given birth, not a girl in her 20s and no wonder I'd been suffering. He also then spotted cysts on my ovaries and said I should never have had the copper IUD fitted in the first place. I could actually feel my IUD by pressing with my fingers on my lower stomach - that's how small I am and how big the thing was. What gets me is that before being fitted with it I actually SAID it looked too big. Only to be dismissed by the doctor, have it fitted in a horrific experience I hadn't been prepared for, and then to spend six months suffering and being told that my pain wasn't important or relevant.

While this video has a lot of great information, I think it's really unfair how severely the side effects were down played. Copper IUD's can be EXTREMELY painful both during insertion and for days/weeks after the procedure. I also know that for many many women hormonal IUD's can trigger severe emotional health issues. Of course we don't want to scare women away from seeking birth control, but we should also be honest and inclusive when talking about the effects of these methods. That way, women can make informed decisions and also not feel alienated by their own pain and discomfort. We should know what we're getting ourselves into.
@awhi37657 жыл бұрын
harper M I wish that they are actually honest about ALL potential side effects no matter how low risk they think it is. Like bleeding. Infections. The hormones do and cause mental health crisis for many. Personally I experienced the worst mental break imaginable and lost everything and that was with constant bleeding. When it finally came to the doctor accepting the bc was causing my health issues I was told I can NEVER use any bc again. I also know a girl personally who walked infront of a train and killed herself after hormone bc. It is worth the chance as having such extreme reaction is low. But had I known or the doctors were willing to accept it when I begged for it to be removed...things might have been different. If you have any familial history of mental health concern DO NOT GET ANY HORMONAL bc.

Getting an IUD was the best experience I've had with ANY birth control to date. My reaction to Birth Control Pills made me have continuous bleeding for over 6 months ( went to multiple doctors who had no idea what was wrong, finally went to a Woman GP who said casually, oh it could be your birth control pill) once i switched over to a different pill the bleeding stopped but the crazy mood swings began. I decided i had to cleanse my body of any remnants of the pill for over two years which in that time i used condoms as contraception. I went back to my Saint of GP and expressed my concerns with Condoms because i felt that i wasn't fully safe from not getting pregnant on them then she suggested this Mirena IUD. I took months tossing and turning about wether or not i wanted to get it done. i was scared about the idea of something living in my uterus for all this time, and the pain i would feel to get it in there. I finally went to a clinic that specialises in women reproductive health and the doctor there took me through all the pro's and con's of having it. And she didn't sugar coat anything. So i was even more terrified after leaving the clinic. After weeks of sleeping on it i finally decided to go ahead with it. To me, the pro's out weighed the con's and if i had to experience some pain to get there then i was ready for it. They told me that its recommended to have some pain relief about an hour prior to the procedure because some women experience pain during the incision.. so i did that and i anxiously sat in the waiting room with my ever supportive partner waiting for my name to be called. When it was time to go in, i had the Doctor who i had spoken to previously during the consultation and a nurse in the room with me to help calm the nerves and talk me through while everything was happening... She was happy to hold my hand and was even making jokes during it - which was great because it definitely calmed me. When it was time to face the music, i certainly did experience some pain, but i would do it over again in a heart beat... i describe the pain like an intense period cramp that only lasted while they inserted the Mirena into the uterus ( about 30 seconds) and after that was all over, the pain went away. I was actually amazed that you could trigger a period cramp while inserting something in the uterus via the cervix, so that amazement distracted me from the pain i was feeling. After insertion i experienced bleeding for about two weeks straight which they advised me was normal but after that the bleeding got lighter and lighter. Anyway I've had my Mirena for about 8 months now and in that time i have had very minor random spotting, I don't even get my periods anymore and no pain whatsoever ever. I can't even feel it. Ive had no crazy mood swings, it honestly feels like I'm not taking anything as a contraception. I absolutely love it. My friend who also has the Mirena said to me, " Its short term pain for long time pleasure " and i honestly couldn't agree more.

@millionsknives88507 жыл бұрын
Citizen Four Not what I thought, but okay. Just saying that people can do what they want. People do things that are bad for them all the time, yet they still do it. Why? They know it's bad, unhealthy, like fastfood. They do it because they can, even if it will affect them in many ways. I'm not trying to say it's the best thing, but some people just wanna do whatever they want. Also, it's their right to follow or ignore pressure from people and society. Now, excuse me while I go eat this extremely, unhealthy food or take these pills that may help me, but also will give me a bunch of bad side affects.
@millionsknives88507 жыл бұрын
Also, addictions are possible when it comes to choice, but it is also their choice to take the drug, food, whatever in the first place, and continue. Maybe they're just okay with living in that life style, maybe something else prevents them from getting help. No one can know everyone's story. I guess women shouldn't go through having children when they choose to do it since childbirth can have serious physical and mental health problems. They shouldn't go through that then, but guess what? They can if they want to.

I have the copper IUD and honestly the pain wasn't that bad. It varies from person to person of course but it's important to go to a health worker who specialises in sexual health and inserts IUDs regularly rather than a general doctor. I've had no issues with this contraception and I forget it's even there!!

I got the cooper IUD and it was one of the best things i could have done for myself. Took a low dose of pain killers before insertion and although there was cramping, it was very very tolerable. I also kept thinking, "A birth hurts more" ... I had little cramping the rest of the day and it went away completely the next day. Would do it again if i had to, no doubt about it. Hormonal birth control is awful on my body and I'm so happy it worked out for me.

Got a copper IUD over 6 months ago. I chose general anesthesia for the procedure but almost immediately after I woke up, the pain was intolerable. My period went from an average of 5/6 days to now 10-14 days.. The cramps are really bad and random at times. I’ve had serious injuries and other surgical procedures before but this has literally been the most painful one in my 25 years of life and definitely the longest recovering period

Little note about when these can be inserted: yes, technically any time will work, but it is easiest during/right after your period because your cervix is wider at this point, making insertion less painful and a little easier for your doctor to perform so you may be asked to schedule your appointment accordingly. Also, cervical stimulation can cause low blood pressure leading to a variety of symptoms (dizziness, fainting...etc). This response is normal and called a vasovagal reaction (many women also experience this during childbirth/pregnancy).

Everyone’s different. My experience was extremely painful, but I have also never had kids, and my cervix was never dilated like it was during insertion. I was in pretty severe pain that lasted the rest of the day. Just barely made it home driving myself, missed class that night as well. Couldn’t sit up and put pressure on my uterus. I even had my doctor call me because I thought something was wrong, because I was told it shouldn’t be painful at all. The next day I had zero pain, went to work just fine. Over a year later and I love having an IUD. Totally worth it.

I got a copper IUD inserted about 3 months ago. For all those women who might be having second thoughts about getting one because of its insertion, here’s my experience: my gynecologist advised me to take an ibuprofen combined with a buscogast tablet (hyoscine) about an hour before insertion, plus I should be on my period since that’s when the cervix is more open to let blood out. Thus, making it less painful and easier for the gyn to insert it. I was terrified when I went to my appointment and wondering whether to believe her or not when she told me that it wouldn’t take longer than 15 minutes. She did everything that’s described in the video, checking in with me to see how I was doing. Long story short, it was a little painful but completely bearable. She told me to lie down a little after the insertion if I needed to. I did so for a minute or two and then i was back on my feet again. The process may seem to take ages in our heads, but actually mine was really quick. Plus, the tablet prevented me from having major cramps and inflammatory consequences. She then prescribed me some antibiotics and told me to continue taking the ibuprofen+hyoscine tablet for 2 days every 8 hours. I felt some discomfort on the next day but on the third day after insertion I had almost forgotten I had an IUD inside me. I hope my story helps some of you make up your mind that it’s not as horryfing as it looks like. There may be bad and painful insertion experiences but there are also a whole load of positive experiences. Mine is one. So don’t get discouraged and feel free to choose whatever contraceptive method you think suits you best. Good luck!

I got the Paragard (copper IUD) about a week ago. I was SO scared bc I had heard it was really painful to have inserted, but I took 900mg of acetaminophen before hand and it really wasn't that bad. I felt a mild cramp when she put the insertion device in and a bigger more painful cramp when she actually inserted the IUD, but even then it was bearable. Honestly the worst part for me was that I could actually feel and tell that something was inside my uterus for like 30s after putting it in which was super strange lol

I've had an arm implant birth control for 6 months now. I got one called nexplanon. It seemed easier than an iud and less invasive. I've also heard stories of getting pregnant with an iud, or being put in wrong. With my implant, I haven't noticed a big difference in hormonal changes nor have I had a period. I haven't had any noticeable side effects, it is possible for it to move. I just check once a week or whenever I think about it. I can feel it in my arm, upper arm somewhat in the middle, about 2 inches long.

The insertion was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life😩. Watching the part of her inserting the iud let alone just thinking about my procedure (which happened a year ago) makes my stomach flip and brings back bad memories. The whole procedure however is so fast and it’s over before you know it but the pain and cramps that come after are unexplainable and incomparable. After a few days the pain goes away and you honestly forget you have an iud. Even with all the pain I don’t regret getting it one bit and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I used to have heavy periods that lasted 7-9 days now they last a max of 3 days and it’s just spotting and if I’m lucky I won’t even get one at all.😅

whosnotfunny I have Nexaplon. Up until recently I would've been the biggest advocate for it and then my psychiatrist told me to get it removed immediately. Nexaplon has been blasted recently because it releases way too much hormones into your system. Side effects include: hair loss, lethargy, depression, mood disorders, and rapid or extreme weight gain. Before Nexplanon, I weighed 120 lbs max. Six months ago I gained 50 lbs in a matter of a few months (so rapidly that I couldn't fit into jeans I bought about six weeks earlier and had stretch marks which I never had before). Many doctors are removing implants because of this. My best friend got cancer because of the implant (words from her oncologist not me). The implant was awesome because it's not something you have to think about and it gave me lighter periods (but they lasted like 2 weeks). But my mental and physical health matters so much more.

I'm very sorry a lot of you had a really bad time with your IUD insertions, but I just want to share my experience with it because it was OK for me. I have the copper coil. I chose it because I am not ready to have a child and because I take narcolepsy medication that can cause hormonal contraceptive methods to stop working. I'm in the UK, I had my coil put in three years ago at my local GP. I was given a local anaesthetic painkiller injection during the procedure. Once that wore off, my lower abdomen did hurt quite a bit, but it basically felt like really bad cramps. I had awful cramps in my teens, so I was able to tolerate the pain. I basically went home, took ibuprofen, rested for a couple of days and was fine. I know the coil can seem really scary, but I think it is a good option that more women should consider, especially if they need or want a non-hormonal option. Even with the uncomfortable insertion and increased cramping, I am very happy with my coil and will probably get a new one once I'm done with this one. And to those of you saying "but it's not natural!": Neither is wearing clothes, but I don't see you walking around naked.
@SianPressly7 жыл бұрын
Since majority of the comments are negative experiences, I just want to say everything is always subjective. The IUD could be amazing for one woman but ruin the life of the next woman. I have had the hormonal IUD for 6 months and insertion was FINE. for me. I had a local anesthetic and felt reaaally bad cramps for the rest of the day which slowly went away over the weekend. My boyfriend took me and drove me home (it takes so quick 20 mins and you're out) because I wasn't sure how I would feel but honestly probably could've driven myself home if I had to. Always keep your options open. And don't let comments scare you. Talk to your doctor, find out info and see if it's right but please don't go by the top comments 😂😩😂

Oook some points to clarify based on my personal experience: 1)Copper T is way more painfull (had it for 5 years) in menstruation days...or any day, it was very unconfortable; 2)Insertion of Mirena hurt like a lot (You need to be prepared an take some pain killers before) i vomited on my mouth while the procedure was going; 3) All of them have negative side effects but i think are less that taking the pill (i had bald spots in my hair, gain 14 pounds, nausea and headache, a hole in my stomach, increase my depression, acne, etc) so for me Mirena is a win. You need to do your homework, read all the information available and ask your doubts to the ob that is the key to find the perfect BC for you.
