They all do this- i liken it to selling a car- you get those people trashing it and kicking tires just to try to feel out how much you know, and to try to set up for a lowball offer. If they sense you actually defending your asking price or that there’s no wiggle room- they’re out. Jenny in particular seems to want something she can just throw money at and see a return with no other input on her end. Which is why that hilarious running joke exists. At the end of the day- none of them really knew what they were talking about. These guys hopefully got some offers after the show aired

@islicedice41394 жыл бұрын
@@bakersmileyface No, but if I did I definitely wouldn't have a trainer come into my home for it, I'd have to go to a gym. The everyday person doesn't have their own visiting personal trainer.
@bakersmileyface4 жыл бұрын
@@islicedice4139 Gyms usually offer affordable one-on-one training sessions though. If you went to a gym just casually, you wouldn't need to know how many punches you're throwing because the person in charge of the class would tell you when to start and when to stop. How many punches you throw in that time would be up to your own capability and I doubt you'd be invested enough to want to purchase something like this for that. Anyone who takes boxing seriously enough to purchase this product would already have a personal trainer or those one on one lessons. They'd become essential for you because in order to fight well, you'll want to know what your form and technique is looking like so that you can hone and perfect it. So in other words, if you have a personal trainer then you won't really need this product. And perhaps some personal trainers may want it or some average joes might buy it because they can. But that's a limited market and nobody would want to invest in that. So Tej was spot on in that regard. Most people who would want that product would have a personal trainer instead.
@islicedice41394 жыл бұрын
@@bakersmileyface I'm not really talking about his stance on the product or its capability in the market, just that one line. He is for sure not the everyday person, and regardless of that, the everyday person does not have a personal trainer come in for them. They'll attend a class like you said.
@bakersmileyface4 жыл бұрын
@@islicedice4139 Sorry. Tej was making the point that the average person who does boxing would not need the product. So I focused my argument on that. @@ItsEntirelyPossible1 if they'd gone through designing and manufacturing their own gyros it'd set them back by more than that £200,000 then the dragons would complain that they're in the red. When the business then grows it'd cost an inordinate amount to scale up production, so for simple cheap components that can be sourced literally anywhere (e.g. a gyro) it makes sense.

The dragons made a mistake with this one. If one of the Dragons actually thought to work with and build this product, as an amateur boxer who hits the heavybag three times a week, I definitely would love to use it. Because, like they said, there's an app for cyclists, bodybuilders and runners, but not for boxers. And we love progress reports, they make us feel like we're building on something. Innovative and ingenius, such a shame they don't understand boxing and so don't understand the market. Any boxer would want this
@dannysmum97445 жыл бұрын
but a big issue was that if it was successful - it would attract competition - thus taking away customers and greatly squeezing margins..
@skpark135 жыл бұрын
But like they said in the video, there aren’t enough serious boxers who’d want this to make the market big enough.
@Nashy1193 жыл бұрын
I think you can buy it.
@estoylaroca3 жыл бұрын
Because it's absurd to compare this to cycling, running, bodybuilding etc. It sounds ridiculous what Tej has said, but it's entirely true. If you really want a serious progress report, you go to your coach / trainer, at least if you're serious about it. If you're an amateur, it probably doesn't matter that much, OR that it's just too expensive. I mean, it's an entirely separate device. With running, cycling, bodybuilding etc. you can use your phone.

There absolutely is a psychological aspect to seeing your values increase before your eyes. For example, if you start boxing at a mere 25 pounds of force per punch, basically just throwing your shoulder into it, and you work your way up to 30, 35, 40, 50, 75... There's great satisfaction in seeing the improvement before your eyes. Otherwise it's simply _"I think I'm hitting harder?"_
@waelhussein46065 жыл бұрын
Good product. They’re right in that the real value is not mainly in the hardware, but the algorithms and software. I just think they were new to business in general, and they came in to the Den at a very early stage of the product life. With no backing on how consumers like (aka sales volume) the product, it’s very hard to judge the business value.

That's true. For all the jokes made about her, I think it all comes down to her being just a pretty conservative investor, especially compared to her peers. It's clear she puts heavy emphasis and importance about the finances and fundamentals of the business more so than just sheer potential. Makes sense for someone from the finance industry, I'd say.

Well done Jenny! I watched with interest as all the other Dragons listened attentively at Jenny's grilling of these very disorganised pair. Oh, the Jenny 'I'm out' jokes are hilarious, but in actual fact in series 15, she had the most number of successful deals than anyone. She was only one deal less than Peter Jones in series 16 and whilst the investing in the least number in series 16 she is not the worst Dragon investor out there. Conversely, I find Jenny Campbell very ethical and only willing to invest when she can only make a real difference, sincerely believes that the entrepreneurs and their business are worth investing in. In the unlikely event that I were to pitch in the Dragons' Den and receive an offer from Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden and Jenny Campbell, I'd accept Jenny's offer over the other two any day.

When the Dragon’s say things like ‘You’re not sure how you’re bringing this to market’, isn’t that part of the point of wanting a Dragon to invest and not someone who could just invest cash with zero business experience?

I think when they say that to people it means they don't want to baby a business with the effort and money that would be equivalent to running their own businesses. Having to sort out everything for a business I bet would just be hassle especially if the product isn't going to sell well. They got advice coming on the show anyway about what they missed or didn't have or what they need to do.
