I’ve thought this for a while. I like it when I see typically uncared for cars cared for.

I drove a beat up Corolla in my teens. In my twenties I had an STI. Now in my thirties, and sold the STI for a Golf R (DSG). My cars have been a good gauge for my life progression. There's a minivan creeping up on me in the distance... but I'm keeping the Golf!

I'm starting to care for and value my Golf TDI. I haven’t taken an interest in caring for a car before, until I got it. I guess it shows my progression as a person, reflecting how my car now aligns with my improved personality.

Exactly how I feel about my Golf TDi, didn't care about the dings or rust on my Focus or Passat. Sense getting my "older" 2012 TDi I want to fix it make the ride like butter and PDR the only 3 dings its got!!! Definitly some prefrontal cortex development/ personality improvement going on.

When I sold my mk4 Golf TDI, it had 400K miles on it. You could eat off the engine, it was so clean. When the paint had issues, I had it repainted. The interior looked as good as it could. I take huge pride in my vehicles. Also, don't wash wheels and then paint with the same mitt. You're passing brake dust and metal particles over to the paint where you proceed to scratch the hell out of the clearcoat. Wheels should have their own bucket and cleaning materials. Love the mk6! Glad to see you love it!
@eurodriven25074 ай бұрын
Yeah, I realized the mistake with the wheel cleaning halfway through. 😬 I'm surprised the interior on your Mk4 held up, usually those are pretty notorious for random issues like the glove box, arm rest, headliner and door card sag. Did you have to redo the upholstery or is there a secret to keeping them pristine?

I'm a new driver and i drive a Peugeot 307 sw. Just a basic family car for everyone but not for me. It has about 260k km (about 160k miles) which is a lot but it's still running nicely :) Learned how to rev match to be more gentle with it. Most people where i live don't even know what rev matching is even though they drive manuals (??)

I have a 2012 MK6 Golf TDI 6M Recently acquired. I’m so happy to have an interesting car that is engaging to operate and feels like a substantial machine. And it gets pretty good MPG’s. I bought it with just under 100k miles. I hope to drive her past 300k. I’m committed to the maintenance. I’m in a position where I don’t fear the costs of upkeep and I totally understand the value of caring for one’s auto. Thanks for your videos. They’re well executed and thoughtful. I’m thirsty for any information about the TDI or diesel technology in general.

I got a 4 cylinder 2007 Altima and I treat it as best I can. If you treat your car well, it’ll do the same for you. It’s old and slow but beats walking for sure lol. For its age it’s doing pretty good. 75 k miles on it, and it’s got a push to start. I keep a maintenance log and do everything I can to keep it up to my standards. Great video man, agree with all the points you brought up

Look I care about my car, but I don’t think it’s fair to assign so many moral values to taking care of a car. Some people just have way more important issues to care about in their lives, and they may not have time or money to take care of their cars. One only has some much time in their life, you have to pick what’s important and drop the rest. It’s not all-or-nothing
@eurodriven25074 ай бұрын
As I said, it's the serial offenders. Life gets busy sometimes, I get that. I've had weeks turn into months without having a real opportunity to care of my car beyond necessities, family emergencies and all that. But there are those that will have all of the time in the world and would rather spend it doom-scrolling some app than taking an hour or so to really get their car clean once a year or at all. It's when one stain turns into dozens because "it's already stained." When some arbitrary mileage or year marker means you can park wherver because door dings aren't something you care about anymore. I still eat in my car, I've moved with this car, I take my dog in it. At the end of the day, it is my means of transporation. I understand that life happens and there are things that happen to cars over time. But if I were to stop caring, it'd be a sign of some internal distress.

This video sums up what I've always thought about car ownership and care. It's like ironing your clothes, sure, you don't need to but people notice when you don't and people notice when you do.

True. It’s all about image. And not in the “muhh you only buy stuff to impress people you don’t care about” way, but as in “if you dress like shit, people will treat you like shit, but if you dress respectable, people will respect you” way

Great video! I have a 2021 Mazda 3 hatchback turbo and I do the same. Wash or spray off the car twice a week. Parking away from others to avoid door dings. I’m OCD about my vehicles which is why I got a great price on my old F150 since it looked showroom new.

I have a 2009 Volvo V50. It's pretty much a beater, and as much as I'd love to take care of it and keep it in tip top shape, the neglect from my dad (before passing it on to me), has taken a toll on it. I wish I could afford the repairs as it makes for an incredibly comfortable highway cruiser, and people are always surprised by the fact that I drive an "expensive" car, but things just won't stop breaking. Ironically, it tends to break more when I have romantic issues lol.

no double bucket to wash a car. Engine bay has never been clean. dont use the same wash cloth from wheels to body panels. I like the mindset just takes a bit more when you show it.
@eurodriven25074 ай бұрын
Noted on the second bucket. Usually I use a "foam cannon" and a bunch of towels, but this time I used the bucket method. I have cleaned my engine bay before, but it's been some time. Thanks for the reminder to get on that. Yes, I noticed the wheel to the panel issue as well when I was in the act, felt quite foolish. Again, not my usual method and I couldn't find my wheel scrubber at the time.

I often wonder when I'll get a new car, as I love my car but I've driven it for 8 years. I also want something better, be it sporty or more fuel efficient. But for being a standard luxury car (buick lucerne) I get a huge sense of pride when people see it and say it's a beautiful car. I have immense pride in it, as it was also my grandfather's before mine. Either way, it'll be the cleanest car in the wrecking lot if anything else haha

Well it seems your car has alot of emotional value so buying a new one won't mean as much , especially if you get rid of your grandfathers to buy a new one. If I'm wrong then go for it if you feel like it.
