On a car that low or mileage, ensure it hasn't been sitting too long. It seems the cars that sat too long are more prone to bushings drying out and failing as well as brake calipers sticking. But if it was simply driven here and there, you're good to go.

I had the dreaded vacuum pump leak back in January 2024 and I replaced the 'O' ring and main cover gasket of the pump. No more leak almost a year later. I did change the PCV valve diaphragm only. The idle is off like described in the video and I get no codes. I'm going to replace the valve cover gasket. Hopefully this adresses the idle. Cheers.

Hey man thanks for video. I have two questions if you don't mind me asking you. First one is are the 2.5 engines on the MK6 reliable? And second is when buying a used one what should I be on the lookout for? Thanks
@eurodriven250710 күн бұрын
I have a buyer's guide for the 2.5 if you want to check if out. The only difference to know about the Jetta sedan for the Mk6 is that it has a solid rear beam instead of independent rear suspension. I'd personally opt for a Golf/Rabbit or Jetta sportwagen, if you're set on a sedan, the MK5 has an independent rear as well. The MK6 Jetta sedan is very much built for a price point and it shows it inside and out. That all said, they are pretty cheap for this reason and if none of the suspsension or interior drawbacks account for the cost difference, they're still a great buy!

I have no idea, clearly, but what years of tdi should I be trying to find. Also, if I can find a manual, which automatic would be best for reliability/life/efficiency?
@eurodriven250726 күн бұрын
If you're set on an automatic, the DSG transmissions in the Mk6 and Mk7 are your best bet-they're reliable and efficient when properly maintained (think regular fluid changes every 40,000 miles). If longevity is your top priority, the Mk4 TDI with the ALH engine is legendary for its durability, thanks to its simpler design and lower reliance on electronics. That said, the Mk6 strikes a great balance for modern comforts, fuel efficiency, power, and overall reliability, which is why I own one. The most important factor, though, is finding a car with a strong service history within your budget. I’d take a meticulously maintained automatic Mk7 over a neglected manual Mk4 any day. Regular maintenance trumps everything when it comes to these TDIs. One thing to keep in mind is that Mk6 and Mk7 models can have emissions-related issues, like failures with the DPF (diesel particulate filter), EGR, or SCR systems. However, these problems are easily resolved with a tune/delete, which not only eliminates those concerns but also boosts performance and MPG. As for the CP4 high-pressure fuel pump in the Mk6 and Mk7, yes, it has a reputation for failing, but the risk is often overstated, especially if you're diligent with using quality diesel fuel. If you’re still concerned, you can upgrade to a CP3 pump to make it as bulletproof as an Mk4 ALH. In short: Manual or automatic: Both can last, but condition and maintenance history are key. Best automatic: Mk6 or Mk7 DSG. Best overall reliability: Mk4 ALH (manual preferred). Best all-rounder: Mk6 TDI for its mix of modernity and reliability.

@@gusus4422 Thanks, I’m glad you found the info helpful! Sorting through these models can definitely feel overwhelming, especially when service records are lacking, but you’re on the right track by asking these questions. The easiest way to identify the generation is by the body style-Google Images can be your best friend here. As a quick guide: Mk4: 1999-2005 wagons (though you might find some Mk5 sedans sneaking in around 2005). Mk5/Mk6 (Common Rail): 2009-2014 wagons, with a slightly updated engine and emissions system over the years but largely similar. Mk7: 2015 wagons only in the U.S., making them pretty rare. If service records are spotty, I’d suggest looking closely for signs of good care: clean engine bay, smooth transmission shifts, and minimal rust or leaks. Sometimes, an honest conversation with the seller about maintenance habits can give you more insight than vague "it's been serviced" claims. Let me know if you’re curious about specific differences between these generations-I’m happy to dive deeper!

Toyota hybrids dont have cvt as in they dont have the metal belt, the transmission its called e-cvt and has nothing in common with a traditional cvt, it has two electric motors mg1 and mg2 and planetary gears, its one of best transmissions ever, it does not have torque converter either, they outlast any other transmissions be it manual or auto. Traditional cvts have bad reputation because of poor reliability and because of the rubber band effect upon acceleration, these are traits due to having the steel belt, they also have a torque converter which also lowers the reliability, e-cvt its a totally different animal, it may have the word cvt in it but they are not related in the slightest at the mechanical level. One more thing replacing the transmission fluid in an e-cvt is also way simpler than a cvt or any other auto trannys, u fill it up until fluid overflows and u are done u will button up the overflow port and job done, u dont have to do the special procedures of warming up the tranny until temp gets into the Goldilocks zone 35-40 degC then u open the overflow port wait until the surplus fluid drains out etc bla bla bla. Toyota has cvt cars but those are not hybrids, they are pure ICE cars. (ICE=internal combustion engine) You clearly didn't do your homework, your comparison between TDI and hybrids is not valid since you thought hybrids have cvt transmission which they don't.

The Gen3 Prius is when they stopped using a typical chain CVT setup. Gen1 and Gen2 had chains. And plenty of other hybrids do too.

I love TDIs and I feel like this video is legit propaganda. His mpg math is out of whack, no stoplights, no traffic, just open road. 45 is way more realistic and that's trying to eek out every ounce of mpg. The ALH is a tank of a diesel engine I wouldn't say the same about others. I would rather get a 2.5 which is considered one of the best VW engines by many because that is truly a "simple" engine not a TDI which in most cases come with a DSG if you cant get a 5 speed car.
@eurodriven2507Ай бұрын
@@jabaho 45 is easier, but that doesn't mean that my 57mpg tank record didn't happen or that I don't see 55 regularly. My wife has a 2.5, it is among the best VW ever made, but my TDI has been more dependable and it's hugely cheaper to drive ofc. I would recommend most look at a 2.5 over a TDI if you're not doing drives that are complimentary to the TDI (long hauls, not city traffic).
