vw is for dudes with a lot of spare time. If you do like to spend a lot of time at a service- it is a perfect choice. VW engineering is just a total joke. Some filter changes take a crazy amount of work or are made in a such ridiculous way that can lead to a question- are they trolling us? VW makes cars for their own market and even that didn’t save them from failing. Happy owner of an Audi a4.

I love my 2008 VW Rabbit. Had it since 2016. You can be poor and keep these cars! (If you can get a loan anyway lol) Noodles was in rough condition, barely working transmission when bought and had to get a complete rebuild a year after I bought it, but right before that, I got from NC to PA and back again before Noodles was like “help!” I’ve been up and down the east coast several times and across the whole US. At about 220k miles now, I’ll put another engine in before I’d let ‘er go 😊

Got a 2014 Jetta TDI. It is still stock and undeleted. I get just under 38mpg hwy if the trips are less than 45 mins one way in the winter which is mediocre for a diesel. However, on trips that exceed 200km, even in winter I will approach 50mpg. You will see the best mpg out of these cars on the long hwy trips especially if they are tuned and deleted. If you do lots of short distance driving, I would get a golf or jetta with the tsi gas motors. The car is fun to drive around town and windy roads needless to say. Has gobs of torque and I feel it hardly needs to work to scoot around town because of it.

I'm Canadian, and have never heard of this stigma. Diesel VW's were always a reasonable option. VW's EPA scandal was the only time it seemed to come into question. VW's are virtually the only diesel vehicles outside of trucks here, besides the occasional Mercedes. VW rocker panels on the other hand...

Don't you guys also have the 12yr rust warranty from VW? I suppose there's far and few TDIs left in that range, but it might be worthwhile to look for a 2014!

Step 1 for most of you, DO NOT buy an AUTOMATIC!!!!! +20whp maybe more and minus 50-100lbs of weight hahaha biggest power upgrade you can do and it's free just not being dumb and upgrading an automatic car lol then it's also an easy upgrade to a nice 02Q Trans swap which will really wake up any 2.5 big time, it is a huge upgrade! Worth every penny!!! You will not believe how much faster the car will be and how much more fun to drive! (Lightweight flywheel makes the 2.5 really fun as well, nice snappy throttle with quick rev match downshifts, with some power improvement too while your in there doing the 02Q swap)

Mk6 Jetta TDI here with a little over 392000kms. Had no real major issues (apart from alternator due to a bearing issue, and now air conditioning solenoid intermittently playing up). Has been an amazing reliable trooper of a car and look forward to it clocking over 500000km. I think a good quality low Sulfur diesel (BP Ultimate here is Oz is the best), regular oil changes with a quality oil and filter, and regular freeway trips is all these vehicles need to keep on living without issue.

I’ll be coming back to check more of your videos out. I bought an 04 Jetta Wagon TDI a couple years ago, thinking that I was going to run it to 500,000 miles, but it has been plagued with various problems since the day I bought it and now may need a transmission. The BEW engine, however, is a dream and I would love to stay in a TDI. Been looking at ‘14 Jetta Sportwagons, but would need to determine whether to go with the TDI or the 2.5.

Wait until your high pressure fuel pump fails. 10.000 repair 26.000 DPF replacements. I have replace three DPF in 80.000. 4000 each time. DO NOT BUY A TDI. 1000 USD TIMING BELT COST. BUY A SUBARU.
@eurodriven2507
@eurodriven2507 19 күн бұрын
HPFP issues are not a problem if you use additive and are any bit mindful of where you fill up. A DPF shouldn't fail as long as you do long trips or just "pothole it." Timing belt costs $1k if you get it done at a shop, but it's every 130k miles. Timing belt vs chain is a loaded topic, but on a diesel, it's a much smoother running engine to use a belt and with the natural vibration of a diesel, any help in that department is useful.

Not sure if you got them on that side of the pond. B6 Audi A4 TDI 130 bhp Avant, 6 speed manual 👌 More practical & refined than the Golf, bulletproof O1E gearbox and the option of quattro all wheel drive if needed. Mine had over 200k miles on it when I sold it. Still pulled hard, gave high 40’s to high 50’s mpg . Would have another but none sold here in Western Australia. B7 looks very similar but had the later B code TDI engines which were not as dependable as the A code lumps. Good video 👌

This is purely anecdotal, but I went from a 9th gen Corolla to a Mk6 Jetta 2.5 and it was not only more reliable, but far less stressful to live with. I don’t know if I just had a lemon Toyota, or a really reliable VW, but I am strict on maintenance, and the former was like playing mechanical whack-a-mole by 108k miles. If the reliability misconception keeps used VW prices down, that’s fine by me. I love how cheap, reliable, and fun these are.

I don't really get the reputation tbh. Both my parents have driven multiple VWs for years and there werent really any insane repairs needed, even on my dads 2006 diesel Passat that reached 600.000+ Km before he finally got rid of it last year because parts were too hard to come by. VWs have a lot of merits. Its a gigantic brand with huge install bases, so spare parts shouldn't be too hard to come by depending on where you live and a brand like that tends to stand to lose more than gain from actually making cars explode just out of warranty.

My Mk6 Jetta Sportwagen is getting a DPF/EGR delete to make it more reliable mainly because the DPF died AGAIN for the 2nd time in 70k miles. I got the car with 39k on the clock and I am now at 109k. The extended warranty is also crap because it was from when the car was first sold, not after the whole dieselgate event. Because of this, mine ended last year even though I got the car in 2019. I also had an extended warranty for the exhaust system and for some reason that ended 6 months before the dieselgate one.

The convincing environmental argument for TDIs is the dieselgate scandal was about localized pollution that might be bad for people in the vicinity. It wasn't about CO2 emissions, aka climate change, which is bad for all future people everywhere. My 2015 Sportwagen TDI with a manual gets 55 mpg going 75 mph (DSGs don't). That means my car puts out half the CO2 emissions than a car that gets 27 mpg.

The difference between the Prius and VW is that once you fix something in Prius, it will last a long time, where is in VW you fix one thing after another and that is annoying.
@eurodriven2507
@eurodriven2507 Ай бұрын
Not in my experience. My VW - sway bar end links. Nothing after for another 20k miles. The Prius, which has less miles. Has been through a couple coolant inverters. (Maybe more like 3 or 4). It needs end links, control arms, rear axle bushings, motor mounts, transmission mount, ball joints. It has an EVAP issue. ABS doesn't work. It's needed two wheel bearings, a blower motor, etc etc. Why in less miles has it needed more attention? All for less MPG, worse cabin, worse ride quality, worse power, etc, etc.
@topspot9417
@topspot9417 Ай бұрын
@eurodriven2507 I hear you but this is just your experience and if you do your research and read multiple owner reviews Prius is winning in reliability. Same mileage does not mean anything as maintenance and the way how each vehicle is used will be the key.On top of that there were some bad years for Prius and VW, so you need to know this before choosing a vehicle. Just my 2 cents and the choice is always yours

TDIClub has plenty of members beyond 300/400k miles too. And VW TDI's are very common taxis in other countries. You're welcome to your own opinions, to find your own sources, but my main point is the reliability that I've experienced being superb compared to both of the Japanese vehicles I've had experience with being semi-problematic all around and those problems being an absolute pain to deal with.

@@topspot9417i can give you some experience from Russia. If VW car reaches 100000km without some serious troubles it is considered as a great result. Here we have prescriptions to change oil every 4000-5000 km It sounds as a joke that you have to spend so much money and time just to keep it alive till 100-120 thousand km. So yes I’ve heard some guys that they are pretty ok even at 300000km but it’s not the average experience. Toyota has some models that are great in terms of reliability and it is well known worldwide. My father had Toyota Land Cruiser and prado - we just used it to travel and it had 0 problem. Now growing up and having an Audi I’m afraid to miss some noise in my engine that will bring me to a great repair that will cost shit amount of money

PowerService has been proven to do virtually nothing for lubrication. Buy premium diesel, which already has all the additives, and not futz with additives. 1-2% Biodiesel will be all you need to get lubricity into euro specs. Use Mobil1 ESP 0w-30 for oil if doing your own changes. VW switched to this a couple years as their VW branded oil. 5qt jug at Wallyworld is under $30.
