I've definitely had this conversation with people multiple times. It's even a bigger deal with 12 speed to keep on top if your chain wear. Those cassettes are not cheap. In 11 speed, it seems like Shimano did a really good job with their chains. I've seen people get a ton of miles on Shimano 11 speed with good cleaning and lubrication practices. I think with 12 speed, Sram did it right. Those chains are tough. I use a Pedro's Chain Checker that has a .5 mark. I believe every major company makes one now, but with modern drivetrains, it's a must-have tool.

Yeah, while I didn't mention it in the video I wore out a really nice 11 speed road cassette for the exact same reason. I'm definitely getting a chain checker with a .5 mark.

I've had the same jumping gear problem. After hours of indexing it was just one worn cog, but it is the one I usually ride in. So I will probably need a new cassette and chain. The worn cassette is the original one from new, and I think it is poor quality. A replacement will be better.

Same for me, it's usually a couple cogs near the middle. Sad news for you is if you're getting chain skip BEFORE you replaced chain, then you're probably going to need to replace chainrings too.
