A definite improvement by using the two-camera setup. I do have a few suggestions for further improvement. 1) You need a mic. Get one of those clip-on mics common among other KZbinrs. You have a deep, resonant voice and in your studio it creates a reverb like echo which muddies up your voice a little, detracting from your presentation. 2) Get a couple of cheap (or free) monitors from a 2nd hand shop or a flea market and set them up under your main camera. Have one monitor give you a live feed of the main camera and the other a live feed of the spot camera. This will allow you to be able to quickly check your positioning relative to the viewing angle of either camera without needing to turn away from the camera. Just a quick flick of your eyes down and then back up at the main camera. It's a lot less distracting than looking around to check your positioning. 3) Once you've set up your monitors, fold away the tiny view screen on the spot camera, it's distracting to both you and the viewer as it is in the main shot. If possible, move that camera out of view of the main camera as well, but if not, just folding away that tiny screen would be huge. 4) Your lighting was rather good in this video as compared to the interview video you did recently. If you decide to add any more, make sure it is indirect lighting, not pointed directly at you, otherwise you'll start to shine... ;-)

One other thing with foam board is that if you want to do other things such as put patterns into it or the like, the cheap white variety from Dollar Stores in the US (Primarily Dollar Tree) are life savers, the covering comes off without any effort and the foam itself paints rather well.

The only thing I don't like about EPVC is the smell... Not sure if it's just the way it's manufactured here in Australia but when I buy a big sheet of this stuff and leave it in a small room it stinks out the room. So it gets left in the shed, the smell is not noticeable in small pieces and once it has been painted and had scenery added. Great video by the way Mel 👍

Buck Rodgers Hi mate, I did see another comment saying that foam board is called foam core here. Check your local arts/crafts store such as Eckersley’s. I think Officeworks carries it too. I did try asking local sign shops, but they didn’t have any scraps. The polystyrene can be found at Bunnings. Look for pink {sometimes blue foam) it’s in the insulation section I think! Otherwise, have a look for expanding foam in a can, it can do a similar job. Good luck!
@buckrodgers2303

@@eagleironic5815 many thanks for the reply mate, yes I've got loads of foamcore/board. I really wanted to have a crack at the etched blue foam stone walls that Mel posted a few years ago. I find it so frustrating to here the likes of Mel and Luke APS say" just go to your local hardware store and pick up some, it cheap as chips" be it EPVC, foam or resin...... it's just not that available here in OZ, I'm a Pom and I remember the days of walking into a shop and just putting your hand on what you wanted. Ah those were the days. I'll try different Bunnings, the one near me only has rolls of insulation not foam sheets, and I haven't been able to locate a sign-maker yet for the epvc. I'll keep looking, cheers bud.😊

Wouldn't know where to get the signboard scraps over here. Guess we buy them ready made from China or something. But then I figured I can use the actual plastc signs as well, so I'm of to the flea markets and scrap heaps to get me some. For rhe smaller stuff I use plastic credit card size cards that you get from stores to save points. Only problem is I seem to loose those all the time so I have to keep asking for new ones.

Hey Mel, thanks for continuing to post very useful videos! I have a question relating to sealing pieces - I took one of the 4Ground Eastern Front houses and made a burnt out version. I was unable to attach a picture, but as I finished the effect by actually burning the piece, I'm left with charcoal edges. Whenever they're touched in game play, fingers will get black soot on them which might inadvertently get transferred to pretty white Austrian uniforms etc. Any thoughts on how best to seal the piece without ruining the 4Ground pre-paint job? If you can tell me how to send a pic of the ruin, I'd be pleased to share my meager result. Kind regards!

Thanks to Mel for his amazing Channel! Keep up the good work and greetings from germany

Does the extruded polystyrene colors matter? Some are pink and some are blue/green here in the us. Example at Lowe’s they have blue extruded polystyrene insulation in various large sheet sizes. Also what’s your opinion on cork board? Can you use cork as bases for scatter terrain.

the colours are there as an easy indication of insulation values but thats on a company to company basics, not all pink foam is the same mate. Cork works well for scatter basing etc

Question about hardboard thickness: I can get 1/8" or 3/16" (call it 3mm and ~4.5mm) but nothing thicker without having to order it in (and pay for oversized shipping rates). I understand that the 1/8 (3mm) is good for smaller bases, but has anyone used the 3/16 (4.5mm) for anything? What are its limits? (I've posted this on the "Basing Materials" video, too.) Thanks in advance.

Foamboard in German speaking countries is usually called "Kapa". It's used for ad cutouts (like in movie theaters, when they have those cutouts of movie characters), it's also heavily used by architects and architecture students. So if you have connections there, you may get it for free, else it's quite expensive. I haven't found epvc yet anywhere, so if any German/Austrian/Swiss people could point me in a direction, I'd be quite happy.

using raw undiluted PVA is actually not a bad idea. That way you can adapt it acording to use. here in norway I found that staples carry some PVA that has 0.4% water in it, would that be the same thing? also, I think you should consider making a resource list on the TTTT group on facebook! like, where you can find what in the different countries, in such a manner that others can add to it, and create an ever expanding database for materials and where to find them globally! :D

High-end expanded foam, such as Woodland Scenics ( woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/Item/FOAMSH/page/1 ) will give you just as much ability to add detail as the extruded foam, and comes with a nice natural texture, if that's something you want. I know when painting up gaming hills, where you want an essentially-flat surface, having that textured surface on the faces, but edges that cut smooth with a hot-wire foam cutter, gives me everything that I want for quick and easy results.
