This was definitely a gateway Penguin Classic for me, reading it during a teenage fascination with Arthur. Then I discovered the references to King Cole, Leir, and other fun ones. The idea that fleeing Trojans helped settle Britain placed it firmly adjacent to Virgil for me. Geoffrey came across not as the crazy uncle who just tells tall tales but as a semi-credulous collector who wanted to make sure I was in the know with him, such an approachable text.

I have a test tomorrow on this book and How Culhwch Won Olwen and on HKB. Lots of the material will relate to Geoffrey and his perspective of the Normans, britons, romans and Christianity as a whole. If you happen to see this in time, do you know of any good study material for this subject? Anyways, I’m not a big reader but you made it sound fun haha, you and my father would get along great. Edit: it’s not on the whole books, it’s only on specific sections I was given to read.
