Hey kids! Its your good buddy, Uncle Ben Eller, here with a brand new episode of This is Why You Suck at Guitar!!!!
On TIWYSAG19, we're gonna be talking arpeggios: Big, huge, EXPENSIVE arpeggios! Learning all those Major 7, minor 7, and Dominant 7 arpeggios can be a daunting task; but if you've learned the basic 3 important arpeggio types (major, minor, and diminished), you can actually just strategically use those and double your arpeggio vocabulary instantly!!!
In this lesson, i'm going to show you my tricks for combing simple triad arpeggios to create bigger, more jazzy harmonies. We will start by talking about basic arpeggio construction, then get into how to use these simple shapes to make M7, m7, and 7 arpeggio sounds. Along the way, we will talk about the harmony tricks that make these things possible, and lastly, we will talk about using these concepts in the realm of implying harmony in your rhythm guitar playing. Whether you're a shredder or a rhythm player, there's a lot to learn here!

Im not trying to bash anybody but most huge channels are just commercials for gear and now they have commercials for dollar shave club or super mobile games in the middle of the gear commercial. Sadly you can improve the way you sound way more by a little effort of learning more than you can with a new spiffy distortion pedal that sounds like the last 3 distortion pedals you've already bought. Thank god for guys like Ben cause Im broke.

I think why he doesn't have as many subscribers is because he actually teaches instead of doing lame gear reviews that all the same guys do of the same gear. Hello Ben, Hope all is well with you! I don't usually comment much on KZbin videos, but you are by far and away the best teacher with loads of patience and you explain modes, scales, chords and songs and what makes them in the mode, key, scale and so on in each lesson you teach. this is a really good introduction to some really big ideas in music theory, like chord substitution and so forth. you get some classic 80s metal harmony by playing, for example Em, G and Bm arpeggios over an Em chord. for me the realisation that the diminished triad occurs in a dominant 7th chord (the V of the I-IV-V blues progression) was a game changer, because you can then play all this tritones over a whole load of chords and it will still sound good or 'right'. however, "agreeance"?!

I use the circle of fifth To know the triads. Travel accross the circle of fifth by fifths or thirds, or even sevenths, it will open the whole guitar. E.g : Cm - D# - Gm . A Nice diatonic triangle. You'll be set to play songs knowing the tonal center and relative diatonic chords.

Joe Pass thought of chords in three flavors, major minor and diminished. So he would play diminished over the the third of the dominant, and minor 7 flat 5. Nice work Ben.
