Perhaps what you could do is for the moment use banners, but throughout the season you put in the big logos. This way, you can get the map labeled quickly, but then go back and put that extra flare into the bigger parts (like group projects/places)

Thank you so, so much for organizing this, sir. I'm so happy to have been introduced to your work, and to Hermitcraft in general. I've only been watching for a few months, but in that time it has already brought me a great deal of comfort, inspiration, and genuine joy. Do you have view bobbing on? I'm sure you've checked that, but I have to turn it off every time. I also turn off screen shake and FOV changes, so sprint doesn't change the way the camera view moves.

If it's not too much of a hassle I reckon scattering the runner ups around your base or even just a lecturn with links and credits would be a really nice move to recognise and spread how great their work was even if it didn't quite make it into the prime location of the art gallery!

Great suggestion! However, I can imagine that it will not happen that way. There has to be limits on that sort of stuff or it could crowd out elements of the game itself. It would also potentially set a precedent for Hermitcraft that could be problematic. I hink it is really cool that Xisuma features all fanart online.

Nice as that idea is, I doubt it'll happen. The limit of 5 pieces in the gallery per participating hermit, is partly to avoid the art datapack growing too large. If everybody participating has their 5 in the gallery _plus_ several extras around their base, then that defeats the point of capping the number they could put in the gallery

I like the fancy graphics naming on the map, but clustered areas such as the shopping district could probably use named banners instead. A mix is definitely more interesting than named banners alone (and equal to fancy graphic naming only i.e. - whatever is done looks best with the fancy graphics mixed in)

Make more variations for your stuff and community stuff to help sell the vision. Get the hermits flexing their labels and most of the work will be done for you in spectacular fashion.

the shulker map markers are so worth it! yes, it’s tedious and resource heavy, but the end result is so unbelievably cool and really has a finished look compared to the banner map markers. your idea was fantastic, and I’ll be implementing it in my next survival world.

I definitely like the map with the funky lettering, but it's definitely harder to do. I'd say meet in the middle and have big areas made with the shulkers and smaller, yet still prominent, locations as banners.

I quite like how minimal your room is for the art pieces, it draws much more attention to the drawings themselves. So I would say its not a bad thing. For the mapmarkers, it could be nice if other hermits were involved, allowing them to make their own map markers in their style for their builds. this might make it more visually interesting. From what I have seen over the years hermits are very good at making things in their own style while trying to match it to someone elses when they touch each others area's or if its a collaboraitive build so it could be really cool to see this in the markers on the map aswel.

I really loved the LogLands signage. Whilst I was watching you create it, I did recognize it was a monumental grind to produce. I even felt a bit guilty imagining you grinding that out across the entire map. If you did it one or two more places, like the shopping district, that would be more than enough. Honestly, a mixture of both the banner logo’s and the invisible ink would be good. Slight complains or possible problem about the map however is that 1) The invisible ink’s size is too big, which may hinder some areas or POIs to be obstructed. 2) The mixture of both the invisible ink and the banners would inevitably clutter the map, making it less aesthetically pleasing. And 3)The hermitcraft season logo is too small imo😂 When you zoomed out to showcase the whole map the logo felt… small, which is both good and bad, but honestly going bigger on the logo may be better as there’s not much going on in that area anyways. Congrats to the winners of the contest too! Excited to see what other fanarts the other hermits will add to their part of the gallery in the future❤

Labeling the different areas sounds like a neat hermits helping hermits idea, for the shulker box logos for the main areas/colab builds (shopping district, gaming district, magic mountain, the neighbourhood, etc.). Definitely looks waaayyy better than the banners.

I think the labeling you did on the map is very cool! I wouldn't worry about the criticisms. I think as far of the rest of the map, you could let the other Hermits label their areas. And if they are hesitant of the amount of work, they don't have to use shulkers. Using chests, signs, anything stackable (and anything you don't have to craft one at a time), will be a lot easier, and should be a cake walk compared to the amazing, high effort builds out of all the hermits this season. In the end, have fun with it!

An interesting thing about the orthogonal camera mod is that at one point a feature like that was in the game. In some very early versions you could take a photo of your world at a similar angle. The feature was eventually removed, an often cited reason is that it didn't work with larger worlds, but the mod is a really cool way of bringing it back.

As others have said, the giant fancy text is still a really cool idea, but should be limited. Banners will work for individual bases/industrial districts (maybe even portal locations for each end of the Shopping District). The fancy text could be for stuff like: Commercial/Shopping District Games District The Neighborhood Magic Mountain PET Postal Service Pixel Pulse city (Impulse/Bdubs Cyberpunk city/adventure game) The worry of doing too many fancy text locations is that if they're too large they will leave shadows on too many things (tho if every Hermit got as simple a design as your own base text, I think that's still a cool setup that didn't leave much of a shadow). I think the original "Xisuma" test you did can still work, but it's really the difference of if you'd rather it be subtly hidden in the map or prominent and useful to use (since the banners are small but stand out). I know I didn't come down on one specific suggestion, but at the very least the above can help you think on the subject more.

X why not ask hermits for assistance in labeling areas on your maps? like, if they see what you did with Loglands, maybe they will do something similar with the shulkerboxes, but put their own spin to it (ie different color pallet). that way if the other hermits decide they want to label their areas for the map (say Ren labeled his area for example), all you would have to do is update the map. this is only a potential idea and could probably do with some tweaking but, i hope i got the general idea behind it explained

The larger words works greatly for markin out districts or large group project areas and then using the banners to make smaller individual projects (redstone builds that are spread across the map) or individual builds in the group projects (specific minigames or shops)

For people's bases I think you should reach out and collab with each hermit to create their base logo. I imagine one idea about the map labeling is this: - For larger general areas like the Neghborhood and Magic Mountain where bases are too close, you use the big custom labels you were creating originally. - Use banners for base locations in those areas. The smaller text will help locate specific bases in a larger area with smaller unintrusive text.

I think the white-concrete pillars that the paintings are on should go all the way to the ground. Maybe its just me, but its a little strange having them hang from the ceiling like that and not actually touch the floor (I should clarify, it doesn't look bad, I just think it might possibly look better having that structural support).

I think the big fancy shulker text looks great, but very resource/time intensive. Maybe save it for labeling areas (like The Neighborhood, Magic Mountain, LogLands, the Shopping District) and then place the banners to sub-labeling places (like each persons base, communal farms, shops, etc).

go to the permit office let give you a permit for base aerial names and sell the name placing for a huge amount of diamonds :D so you can make profit with it :D and the hermit need to decide in the end be a part of the worldmap aerial name or not and in the end, you will sell it all or they will do it self, because it is to expansive but it can end in a war

You should have everyone help with labeling their important locations and bases so it isn't all on you, Xisuma. The custom Logos look cool, and once you decide you are done with updating the maps, you can always lock them with the cartography table and remove any of the labels that leave too big of a shadow in the areas. Just a thought of course, and one I'm sure you are already aware of. Keep on with it! Love the map content.

You could use the banner markers as a quick solution for labelling all the bases/areas, and then when you or another hermit feels like spicing up the marker go in and do a fancy one. The Banner Marker would even be good for hermits to identify where they want the fancy label to go. The “invisible ink” method does look a whole lot better, but it would be a lot of effort to get done for every base and group area.

When xB was asking the people of Hermitcraft what they would like removed or added to Minecraft, this Orthogonal view sort of encapsulates my idea which is a 3D-rendered world on floor maps that would view the entirety of the builds and terrain according to how you walked around on the map. An interface to add and remove features would be nice including a nighttime view of the street and building lighting. Or information pallets, coordinates and zoom on a build, or rather fill to map 3 dimensionality.
