I have always secretly wished for this video! Thank you so much for sharing. Looking forward to the rest. Edit: Now that this series has concluded, I figured I'd come back here and ask if anyone has recommendations for more technical deep dives for the nerdier among us. For example, I would love an even deeper dive into the configs and stuff like the dockerfile, orchestration mechanism, distro choice, backups and so on for a server as seasoned as Hermitcraft.

The hardest part of maintaining a server is usally the first time you do anything or run into a problem, once you have experienced something enough it becomes 2nd nature I use to spend hours and hours on the server me and my friends use but as we go back to old games they are easy to set up but new games only depend on how settings and smaller changes are handled some are faster then others depending on how similar to previous games they are.

This is a great idea for a video Xisuma. Its almost like we are on the same wavelength because I had wondered why no server admin had really taken the time to break down what running an SMP is like for KZbin. Then again, you are a creator and many server admins who do this are as well, so that can consume so much time. Our server admin is pretty capable and we have already implemented all the features of Hermitcraft that we like, but there are others out there who may need additional assistance figuring this out. Good on you!

Interesting video. Thanks for the quick list of the important mods. I generally run pure vanilla on my server, but getting some of those optimizing mods could likely really help things out. Coords finder and the silent mobs mods are also both technically non-vanilla things that I think all my players would be interested in as well since they don't really harm the vanilla experience other than not needing to mute mobs in certain areas.

This was awesome Xisuma! From my perspective, this was a wonderful learning experience. Your explanations were thorough enough to either explain in detail the purpose in why a choice was made or you provided you helped point out a resource that could be used in research to customize/personalize a community's own server. Too often people when asked may spam a performance improvement mod list, or a server build with little explanation, & not realize that the person asking may be asking because they are in need of not just the tool, but the reasoning behind using the tool. You can't give a person a multimeter & expect that person to find where the short is in the house without explaining how to properly trace a signal.

Some questions/curiosities I still have: - What's the process of adding new CustomModelData like? E.g. something like a hermit messages you with the resource, you add them all every Sunday? Is there any worry about a hermit adding something which is too unminecrafty? Do you have like an established standard of what is and isn't allowed? - Have you ever made a mistake with world pruning, accidently deleting a chunk with stuff in it?

I remember a few years ago I asked you on twitch if you ever had any plans to make a small series that talks about your "role" as an admin and the sort of things that you do behind the scenes, for better insight as to what you do, and for those that may want to do this themselves. The answer you gave at the time was no, you didn't see yourself making a video like that, and weren't really wanting to explore making that into a video or series. But I'm glad you've made this video now, it's given me a lot to go off. I'd love if you made more videos like this that talk about this part of the process as it would help folks wanting to run and admin their own servers the same way you do with less friction, learning from someone like you with experience. :D Great video X, would love to see more like this!
