I know this is an old video, but it's "new to me." I greatly appreciate Pastor John's teachings through these labs and other means. I'm struggling just a bit with this one, though. I believe it is sound teaching for those who deal with typical human anxiety, but for those who suffer from anxiety due to mental illness, their anxiety is more difficult to overcome. Often there are other factors preventing them from thinking logically in their own strength. God can lift them over that hurdle, but it isn't always easy for them to see or believe that. I've prayed for a long, long time for someone in particular who struggles with anxiety and mental illness to be able to put his faith in Jesus and his promises, and this lesson has reminded me of the power of those prayers. For those who aren't in a place to pray for their own understanding of the clear and logical arguments presented here and throughout the Bible, perhaps it's up to others to pray for God to open their eyes and soften their hearts so they, too, will have faith to stand on these mighty promises. Thank you for all of the valuable teaching offered through desiringGod.org.

Amen! We often quote this scripture but when we succumb to anxiety we forget that it is just an issue of faith ("O you of little faith..."). This study literally lowered my blood pressure; thank God for his powerful word;)

Good Morning, thanks for sharing your inspiring thoughts on a passage in Matthew, Mr. Piper and for the emotion you express when you talk. I am sorry for having judgmental thoughts toward you without praying for you, I feel in my heart now from Romans 14:4 that God is your Master and He is mighty to support and make you stand. What came to me is Galatians 5:6 (NKJV), { } is me clarifying--For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails {helps or aids} anything, but faith working {being expressed} through love.

is hard to have faiht when u pray for blessing and the oposite happens time and time again.it is easier to deal with trouble when u dont know god, because u can blame it on luck.when u know him u know that he is resposible for what ever good or bad happens in your life. i have problems understanding why he allows situations to get in the way when u just want to serve him.he is in control he is powerfull, im not looking for riches to fall from haeven.i work hard and he gives me the jobs i dont want and all the well paying jobs go to poeple who don even give him thanks for the food they eat.some times i feel that he is against me and he enjoys seen me strugles. im to the piont that i dont even wan to pray no more because when i pray things just gets worst.

Hi Martin, I hear what your saying and I can identify with you because I felt the same way some time ago, But I realize that when i looked deeper into spirituality, and began to work on getting to know God on a deeper level, he revealed to me why this and that happen to me, he was preparing me for my worse days and better days. Our blessings lie within the struggles." God's will and not mine", I pray for the knowledge of God's will, the acceptance of Gods will and the power to carry it out. No matter what happen and how I feel about certain things, I allow God to be first in life. living life on life terms is not easy, God always gave me jobs in the service field, I have a degree in Business Management, and never no higher than a Bank Teller. I worked hard to grow within the industry and everyone else was getting promoted, and i was training them for the promotion. That's when I had to reevaluate my life include God in my life. I want to share with you Joyce Meyer Ministries, she really help me a lot with dealing and understanding God and self. Go to her website and give it try. Peace & Blessing

Your sentiments have been spoken by me, in the past. Through many struggles I, now, have a new perspective. If God were to allow our path to go as we wished there would be no need for Him to be in our life. We choose Him because we want to go His direction and not our own. Well, sad to say, but profoundly true,it is usually the opposite of our choosing and often very painful, but unmistakably right. You mentioned "good or bad"in your comment, but the question is good or bad for what. Is it good or bad for prolonging your dependence on this world or good or bad for your superficial relationship with God? Please, I don't know you, but I know mankind and we all struggle with these and many more. There is something that is harming us and, as a loving father should, God is going to war with these things. Unfortunately, these things we cherish and consider an essential part of who we are. God disagrees. He is dependable to look past all these things and give us what we truly need. If we don't receive it, we don't need it. God bless.

So is working a job serving money? If so, then why does the book of proverbs look so highly on hard workers getting rich over lazy people coming to poverty?
